Nothing but positive words to say about Geysir Car Rentals

Nothing but positive words to say about Geysir Car Rental. From the easy to navigate website, confirmation emails, collection process & finally the return. Due to the current situation on flights our original plans got moved back 24 hours. Geysir without hesitation refunded us the 1 day hire. Upon arrival at Keflavik the transfer to their rental office was smooth & easy via the bus. The vehicle was a virtually brand new 4WD Jeep in excellent condition which provided us with all the comfort & confidence to drive across Iceland for the week. Excellent service from the Geysir Customer Service team answering all my questions. Thank you Geysir will certainly use & recommend you again.

The car was very old and dirty and dangerous!

The car was very old and dirty. The tire pressure warning light was on and the company refused to fix it or replace the car. They said if something happens with the tire on the road, then I can call for road help and they will pay for it. I insisted on fixing the issue as this was in February and it was snowy and dangerous on the road, the staff laughed at me and walked away. Terrible service.

Nice service, terrible car.

2 weeks ago I rented a car at geysir car rental in Keflavik, Iceland.
Unfortunately they only had cars in compact class left, but on there website it says that those are either a Hyundai i20, Renault Clio or Toyota Yaris, so I felt confident that size didn’t matter😉
After my arrival I took the car rental shuttle and found the Geysir office at Keflavik.
I have nothing bad to say about the staff or the service ( and that’s why I give geysir 3 stars and not 1 )
I got the keys to my rental car and did I get a surprise when I saw it🙄 it wasn’t one of the 3 cars listed above but a Dacia Sandero. I could write a book about how terrible a car that was.. my first own car was a Ford Sierra 1984 and it was better and more well equipped than that Dacia. Just a very awful and uncomfortable car and definitely not soothed for the Icelandic roads. And especially not for the rent price I gave. More than 82.000 isl.kr 😱
Dear Geysir, if you insist to keep that poor and terrible car in your fleet, it should at least cost half of all other cars in your compact class.. such a terrible car !

What’s worse?

What’s worse? The service after a really bad rentalcase or their cars in generel! Both equally is 1 star at the Maximum!!!

Rented a wreck, and the engine could not even climb an asphalt road with a small increase… was overtaken by autohomes!!

Book elsewhere!! Not worth the fight!!

DO NOT USE GEYSIR RENTAL

Experience of picking up and delivering a rental car at Geysir Car Rental Company in Keflavik Island.

We arrived on Thursday 11 / 07-2019 by plane from Copenhagen and so much for our holiday where we had to drive around Iceland in our rented car a Dacia Duster 4x4.
There are so many car rental companies in the airport that you think it is a lie, a bus driving from the airport to all these rental companies and putting guests there where they have now rented their car.
We came to our car rental company GEYSIR, approached their counter and met a very young salesman of 19 years who was actually a cute young man but to service the customers, I do not think the young people have learned anything about Service.
We had to sign a lot of documents and otherwise read a booklet as it was very important we got to read as this booklet covered a lot of important knowledge about driving around in Iceland. Why were we not informed of all these important information by the seller himself !!!
When we finished all these formalities we got the key and he said the car was out in row 2 of rental cars, why the seller does not go out and hand over the car personally and tell us all the important information about the car that is relevant to us renters! ! See it had been customer service.
The seller could have told us that if the car would puncture and we would call for road assistance, the self-payment that is not covered by the insurance that we had purchased (why then buy an insurance) road assistance costs "only" 2810 EUR in excess of road assistance.

Or the seller might have told us that we had hired a "corpse" of a Dacia Duster it was in such a bad condition, big dents in the car, scratches worn so the very sad version of a rental car, the interior had seen better days scratches all on behalf of it was better not cleaned properly.
When we then started the car it was not filled up with gasoline on the tank which was missing a line ... but if we did not deliver the car with full tank, for we a fine but it is obviously only the tenant who has to pay a fine for this error.
Warning lamp in the instrument panel illuminated yellow from the first km now you would probably think that why did you not go back to Geysir again where to make them aware that you have received a "moody car" and ask to be handed another car that is in better condition. I do not think so much because all cars are initially rented out in Iceland, and you would like to leave as soon as possible when you only have 10 days to see Iceland as incidentally is too little time then there so much to see on this beautiful island.

The 9 day after a lovely overnight stay at a hotel in Oslavik we came down to our car which was parked on the hotel parking and to our horror we saw that it was punctured on the right rear wheel oh what to do so you then change the wheel even when we would not pay for roadside assistance with the self-payment (EUR 2810) not covered by our insurance. Throughout our tour we have done everything we could to not do damage to the car, we have made sense to not have to pay a large extra bill when handing over the car but then it happens then we have to hand over our "corpses" of a car, the seller makes an inspection of the car and approves it but prints just a self-payment of 300 EUR for the punctured tire !! I try to explain that we have not destroyed the wheel when the car was punctured in a parking lot and in this connection I must just say that a new tire in Denmark can be bought for 500-600kr.

The seller was not at all talking to, so were the rules in Iceland it was passed by law !!! To puncture a wheel on a car that is rented by a car rental company you have to pay for a new wheel bum… 2250 good Danish kroner and in this connection I can tell that the road network in Iceland is very dissimilar to many F-road and Gravel roads so there do not have much to do before you make dents scratches or puncture on a tour of this beautiful island. So our advice to future turrists who want to visit Iceland think well before you choose to rent a car, it can be very expensive than you expect with when the accounts must be settled when delivering your rental car.

All above board

Very happy with Geysir's service: one of the few companies that doesn't charge sneaky fees or even a one-way surcharge. Everything was very upfront on their website. Collection from Harpa's carpark was totally hassle-free. -1 star only because the i30's door handles didn't work very well at all, creating annoyance for all, and which perhaps should have been discovered before it was given to us.

the worst eperience we had

the worst eperience with rental cars we had! we arrived as agreed at 11.00 pm. the car they gave you was broken at the anterion bumper. The anterior windscreen wiper crackled and the posterior one didn't work. Furthermore when they delivered us the car, it was parked in a completely dark parking area, with no lights and it was no possible to check if they have marked all dents, broken parts....

Worst car rental I ever experienced.

I rented a 4WD Suzuki Jimny but after driving an hour I realized that the 4WD didn't work at all. I called the office and suggested that I come back and switched the car, since I needed 4WD where I was going (and payed for it). They refused and asked me to call roadside assistance. I did but they told me they couldn't help, and that I would have to go on without 4WD.
Eventually, I couldn't go to some of the places I planned, since the car only had 2 wheel drive.

Later, I discovered that the spare tire had a big screw in it, and was flat, and at some point one of the door hinges came lose and the door started hanging crooked while I was driving.

But the problems didn't stop when I returned the car. I asked them to please check and confirm that the 4WD didn't work, which they did. They wrote a comment about it on the file, and told me to write a mail to the
claims @ geysir.is and discuss a refund with them.
The only answer I got from claims was, that the 4WD worked fine.....!
I have written three mails by now, but they simply stopped answering after the first one.

I can only recommend that you DO NOT USE Geysir Car Rental.
Their level of service when things didn't work, is the worst I have ever experienced.
