Beware of vehicle switch and unhelpful customer service.

I rented a 2025 Kia Sorento for a late September 2025 self-driving tour of Iceland and received a confirmed booking for that specific model. Upon arrival, Go Car Rentals provided a Hyundai Santa Fe instead.
The key issue was the second-row middle seat, which has a significant "pommel" design (a raised, firm hump), making it extremely uncomfortable for my wife throughout the trip.
When I contacted management after returning home to complain about the unapproved vehicle switch and the discomfort it caused, I received an unapologetic and dismissive response. They did not acknowledge the inconvenience or offer any resolution, even suggesting the Sorento would have been worse.
If model specificity and passenger comfort are important to your travel party, please be aware that this company will substitute vehicles and their follow-up customer service is unhelpful and defensive. I recommend booking with a company that honors vehicle reservations.

Excellent experience

Everything was very well organized. The rental price was very good by comparison to other companies. We chose max insurance but we had no problems. Totally recommend!

BMW X3 2025 from Go Car Rental

I made a reservation for a BMW X3 2025 model through GO Car Rental for a seven-day period from September 7th to 13th September 2025. I opted for the platinum insurance package, along with 24/7 roadside assistance. The service rendered was exceptional.
The vehicle was delivered in pristine condition and was well maintained by the rental company.
The mileage was only 5,000 km, which ensured a smooth and dependable journey during the seven-day period.

The experience will be etched in my memory as I had the privilege of traveling with my wife and my kids in the finest automobile along the ring road. I will miss the driving with this Car for sure!!!

Should any unforeseen circumstances arise during my travels, I promptly contacted the rental company via email, and they responded promptly and effectively. However, it is noteworthy that they do not have a WhatsApp number as a communication channel for tourists. It would be advantageous if they could provide a direct emergency WhatsApp contact number for customers.

Overall, I would highly recommend the rental company, rating it with a score of nine out of ten.

And of course David Poduska from Customer service is a great person ☺️

We will rent again at Go Car Rental

We just returned from a great trip in Iceland. We rented a car at Go Car Rental with platinum insurance and roadside assistance. We were picked up at the airport and brought to the office.
We already checked in online so the pick-up went very smood. We got the papers and got all the time we needed to read everything and sign them. Right away the papers were emailed to us. With the platinum insurance a WiFi device was included. Very conveniant to have WiFi everywhere we went.
We got a Dacia Jogger with a mother-in-law case on the roof. 😆 It was just for the two of us, so we had plenty of room for all of our stuff and didn’t need the MIL-case.
We checked out the car and tires before we left the site and everything was ok.
We had a great trip around the island and the car was very good for our trip. No problems at all. At the end of our trip we returned the car where we picked it up, they checked out the car and told us everything was ok. We were brought back to the airport by shuttle and that was the end of our trip to Iceland. We had a wonderfull experience with Go Car Rental and will rent there again if we ever get back to Iceland.

Absolutely worst experience of my life

Absolutely worst experience of my life. Rented a truck bed camper and it wasn’t attached properly and almost came off the truck. When I called they were no help. Luckily stopped at a shop and a nice local helped us re attach it. Wouldn’t recommend using this company. Plenty of other options out there!

Disappointing Experience

Disappointing Experience – Misleading Booking

We booked the Go Big model specifically because it was shown online and in the video presentation with two captain’s chairs in the second row—ideal for our two additional passengers. But we got some other layout vehicle. Instead, our passengers had to endure long drives (4–6 hours daily) on uncomfortable bench seats, which was completely unacceptable and not what we paid for.

Additionally, we purchased the Premium Bundle, which clearly states it includes four duvets. We were only provided with two, which made sleeping very uncomfortable. We assumed the two duvets might be double-packed, but they were not. On return, we were accused of hiding the missing duvets, which was incredibly frustrating. Please ensure items are counted and delivered correctly to customer at pickup to avoid these situations.

The GPS system we were charged €120 for (10 days) was practically useless. It was a tiny outdated device, not the tablet-style GPS provided by other rental companies like Camp Easy or Happy Campers. It didn’t function well at all—we ended up using our phones. Honestly, skip their GPS option and bring a phone mount.

Lastly, while the van didn’t have any major mechanical issues, it clearly felt very old. On gravel roads, it shook significantly, that showed the age and wear of the vehicle.

Overall, this experience was not aligned with what was advertised. We felt misled and poorly treated, especially when concerns were raised. Would recommend others to double-check model specifics and be wary of upsells that don’t deliver

Not a great experience...

Not a great experience...
Iceland is fantastic. But we faced a sudden vehicle breakdown while 400km away from Reykjavik. The company would not provide assistance until we make a down payment of nearly 6000€ and had to wait 8 hours before being rescued. As of now, Go Rental keep putting the blame on us for the problem, without propre independant expertise, and we are not sure to see our money back. We feel robbed and unfairly treated. I definitely dont recommend this company.

We rented a camper van this month (June 2025). The van was very old, the side door took two of us to open because of the rust on the frame. We found out 2 days into our trip that the sink was leaking and ruined all of the food and essentials that we purchased at the Icelandic grocery store (NOT CHEAP). We couldn’t use the sink for the rest of the trip. The rear taillight was out, and the curtains didn’t fully cover the windows and with 24 sunlight that was a bit hard to get used to.
When we returned the van we told the woman about the issues we had, especially the sink and she said “thank you for letting us know”. No compensation at all.

Diposit not returned!! don't rent a camper here!!!

Camper had several shortcomings, when returned there was no time to do a full check. Also no written statement of the status( which was perfect when we left it).
The deposit wasn't payed back. No communication possible no reaction on emails etc. Don't use this firm to rent a camper it is not reliable!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE READ THIS!!!

I rarely write reviews, but feel obligated to warn others in this instance.

In short, Let’s go motorhomes charged us $925.10 for a scratch that was less than a millimeter long - Unfortunately I cannot attache the pictures of the scratch on this website

I chose "Let's Go Motorhomes" not because they were the cheapest, but because I believed a corporate company would treat its customers fairly.

We drove 5,300 km from Melbourne to Darwin. At the end, they could only find a scratch less than a millimeter in size. Thank goodness we took such good care of the van, otherwise who knows what would happen with our $5,000 deposit.

Unsafe vans - do not risk

We were given an unsafe van with a fault, where a hand break wire was rubbing and destroying a tyre.
On new years tyre blew on us, day later we could smell burnt rubber and had to see another mechanic.
Both mechanics said the following:
- the tyres are missing the winter spikes and are completely unsafe for Iceland in winter
- van shouldn’t have been given to us with the fault

This completely ruined our holiday- we had to change our plans, pay for additional stays and constantly worry about the van.

Service weren’t helpful, we asked for a replacement, which they refused to provide.

We also met people in the same situation at camp sites - even this morning family with a van that has broken heater and are unable to sleep due to freezing conditions and a van, again, with no winter spikes that is skidding around the road.

The story is the same- vans are not safe and service isn’t doing anything to actually help and remediate the issues once they arise.

Very bad experience

Very bad experience. I rented a Renault "GO Lite" camper for 11 nights at the end of august 2024. The guy who managed our check-in very hastily explained how to manage the van and he add something about the fact that we could have faced some matters with the heating system! Hopefully not, I thought. In our experience the heating sistem was simply not suitable for heating the van all night long, it gets really cold during the night after a couple of ours, each nights. The kitchen equipment is more than basic. I could describe many other topics, but we discovered the most unpleasent experience at the end: at the check-in they sold us 4 gas cans, paying 40€ extra saying they would have buy back any cans not used. at the end of our holiday we advanced 2 cans and at the check out they told us that there were no notes about my purchase of cans, then I was expected to produce a receipt, at the end they didn't refund any of it. be aware that I found the receipt of our purchase once I was back home. I explained it was really unpleasent and not fair but I had to get quickly our plane to be back home so there was no time to discuss more. two cans, for 20€ in a rental with a total amount of more then 3 thousands euros. that woman treat me as a person who wanted to do something not honest. what a shame. avoid them!

a shame!

I am writing to you to express my dissatisfaction with our vehicle rented from you. We took the Dacia smart economical camper van. already very uncomfortable. Just a small mattress, a storage box that takes up all the space and prevents you from being able to move around, and that's it! But no insulation! Suddenly it was a real fridge! Impossible to warm up despite having two sleeping bags! Because of this there was condensation in the van which dripped onto the small mattress, which itself was damp underneath. Honestly I don't even know how you are allowed to rent this for a trip to Iceland where you are aware of the temperatures outside! We met a couple who, for the same price we paid with you, had a comfortable vehicle with heating, fridge, sink and a bench seat that folded out into a bed! A shame for you!

Horrible customer service

My friends and I rented a large camper for a weekend, and unfortunately, our experience was not good. Firstly, we received the camper quite dirty; it clearly hadn't been cleaned well between rentals. Later, we encountered problems with one of the doors on the vehicle, which was stuck. After repeatedly trying to contact the company during their opening hours, we finally reached a customer service representative. He said he would call back but never did. Therefore, we were left to fend for ourselves. Luckily, we are native Icelanders and could contact a local mechanic who helped us over the phone. If we hadn't spoken Icelandic, this would likely have been even more of a hassle. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to try to resolve this as a tourist. After complaining to them about this poor service without getting any response, I have no choice but to warn against renting a vehicle from them. I've heard good things about Happy Campers and would rather go there next time.

A little disappointed

We did not have the best experience with Go Campers unfortunately. From the get go I did not have the best feeling. I get the free shuttle from Keflavík to the Depot which was good. Upon arriving it was extremely busy so there was a wait (understandable due to the time of year etc). I was told my camper was in for an oil change and was kept waiting for 20 mins whilst this was being completed, no biggie.

When the camper was handed over to me I was told “your things are over there” and was made to carry the chairs, table, duvet’s and my bags to the camper alone, seems I was travelling on my ones. That seemed a little odd to me that I wasn’t offered a hand. Poor customer service if you ask me.

When I got into the Camper is when the problems started. Being that I had been travelling for more than 8 hours already, and had another hour drive to go until reaching my final destination, I just wanted to get in, turn the key and go. That I did! I took the hour long drive to campsite number 1 where I was to meet my girlfriend.

When I got to the campsite I had a good look around the van and noticed a lot of points that I find truly unacceptable being that I’d spent almost £600 to have this camper for only 3 days. These point include: a dirty cooler box (extra charge) dirty bed sheets (extra charge) and the curtain to be absolutely filthy and hanging on by 3 hooks.

Now, I’d like to just add that I’m really not one to complain, I will just suck it up and go with it, but when I feel like I’m being taken for a mug, I find I have to say something.

We had a reservation for dinner, followed by a booking at Sky Lagoon (absolutely beautiful place by the way). So we were on the go all evening until we got back to the camper to go to sleep. By the time we got back it was 10pm, I’d been awake for almost 22 hours at this point so just needed to sleep, hence why we didn’t make an immediate complaint.

The first night of sleep was truly dreadful due to the curtain that was holding on by a thread. So the next morning I made a call to the office to explain my concerns.

I was told that I could drive back to Keflavík (an hour each way) or go to the office in Reykjavík to get things replaced. I was then told by the gentleman on the phone that I could go back to the office and receive an upgraded version of the camper I had booked (Budget). This was only going to waste 2-3 hours out of the already limited time I had to spend with my partner, so after some consideration we decided to suck it up, go to the office, get some new sheets, a cooler and make the curtain more stable.

I thought I would make a curtesy call to the office to explain that we would not be coming back to swap the camper completely, but that we would be going to the office to get our consumables replaced - to this I was greeted by the manager. When I mentioned an upgrade, I was met with “Upgrade? Who told you that?” in a not so friendly tone. Besides this, we went to the office where we were met with a very nice woman who changed out our things with no problem at all, she was extremely helpful and apologetic. I was also refunded €15 a day for the Cooler box rental as they did not have another electric one, only a normal one, for this I was very appreciative.

All in all, my thoughts are this - if you are going to charge almost £200 per day for an ~insured~ camper, please, at least make sure it’s all clean and ready for the customer. I’m sure I can give Go Campers the benefit of the doubt in saying that this could have been a one off, or we could have just been unlucky.

My time in Iceland was not ruined at all by these inconveniences, in fact it’s probably the best country I have ever visited. I hope I get a reply from this as I’d love to get some feedback, and I just wanted to share my experiences with everyone that’s looking to book in the future so that they know what to check.

Good equipped camper

Good equipped camper, everything was clean and worked well. You even get dishwashing liquid and towels for drying the dishes - so they think of almost everything ;).
