Gap too large between shower wall and stud.

The product probably deserves a higher rating. Due to the way my house was built it didn't work quite as intended. After drilling the initial pilot hole, I discovered the stud was more than 4" from the shower enclosure. This required removing sheetrock from the outside wall and closing the internal gap to make the assembly fit. The plates ended up inside the wall cavity. The final configuration was grab-bar/shower enclosure/plate. The best news was I didn't have to drill 2" holes in the shower walls.

The grab bars are nice

The grab bars are nice. The delivery was fast. But the follow up survey required me to join something I didn’t want to join. So that was obnoxious.

Negative customer sentiment

The owner of this teeny wheeny e-commerce boiler room is tucked away in an industrial park about 30 minutes away from Lowe's headquarters. Lowe's teaches people how to optimize customer experience with flexible return and refund policies. My advice to the retail buyer is shop at Lowe's or Home Depot and stay clear of these people. The owner is short sighted and his third party interpretation of the sequence of events is crazy and 100% falsified. He never actually spoke with me or heard my side of the interactions. What he writes is all hearsay. He is clueless based upon his defensiveness and accusatory response. No where in his response does he take any responsibility for my frustration in getting answers in a timely way. I guess all his millennial generation employees (and he included) prefer to hide by email and ignore voice mails and do not return repeated calls.

Here is just one of many other public reviews (although they don't have many public reviews by industry standards) on the same company, noting their lack of customer experience and rigorous return policies. Here it is:

"I was remodeling my bathroom and wanted to see how these grab bars would work with all my other choices which they did not. I was shocked that they charged me a 20% restock fee!! That is ridiculous ! To accept my return and charge me this was just a way to make money off of me and not be customer friendly company. Would not recommend."

So, as I had said before, stay clear and far away from this vendor with their lack of after-sales support and overall customer experience and rigorous return policy on unused items. The head of customer service will look for loopholes not to honor return merchandise credits and hold others accountable and not themselves. She told us, "We are glad you aren't going to do business with us anymore!" Instead of making the situation whole, she created by far the worst customer experience I have had from a vendor in over 35 years of managing many houses and facilities. The company will not accommodate the customer (me) or the contractor in a timely manner and only then makes excuses not to credit us due to their timing delays on the return sequence of steps to ensure a smooth return process.

We can start with the fact that your contractor, the person who actually placed the order and therefore our customer, had previously contacted us regarding returning the item and our customer service associate had extended the return window and communicated with our customer/your contractor with all necessary information pertaining to the return prior to your first contact.

You then reached out to us trying to acquire monetary information
regarding this order which you did not place. When you were advised that we are unable to share information regarding an order you personally did not place, your reaction was explosive.

You treated our staff in an abhorrent manner. While other companies may allow their staff to be abused and belittled, we strive at GrabBars.com to insure a safe workplace for our staff at all time.

Our customer service manager intercepted your second call, after
you rudely and abruptly ended the first call by hanging up on our customer service associate. Your abusive and disrespectful behavior continued. In response to our customer service manager sharing with you that your behavior was inappropriate and shameful, you stated that you would never do business with us again.

I fully support my employees and would like to agree we can and will prosper quite well without ever doing business with you.

I was looking for grab bars online for…

I was looking for grab bars online for several hours, but could not find the right size grip, or it did not tell you the grip so you are going with the unknown. I needed a smaller grip, because I have neuropathy in both hands and one hand does not have good strength. These were also to be used by my wife as well who has small hands. Most of the online stores did not have grab bars in stock, and I would have to wait 1 week or two for them to arrive. My friend sent me the link to GrabBars.com and I right away found the bars I could use, they even had covers to hide the screws, and would arrive the next day. Sure enough they did arrive the next day, and they we perfect. quality is awesome.

Great Service and Detail Orientation Quite Helpful Staff

I started to order online, but had some concerns. So, I called and heard a very professional voice outgoing message. Within not much time, they called back and confirmed they are a real brick and mortar operation.

She helped me through the grab bar selection process, and based solely on my description of the design, I was able to order the exact same bars that my mother has at her home for our guest room bath.

She also led me through my decision-making process and explained the differences and considerations for selecting a teak-wood seat and and the required maintenance.

Delivery was earlier than she promised!

Great organization. The photo online of their office also made me more comfortable ordering because it shows the steps and wall of brick facing below the steps, so you can see the photo is likely real.
