Great price, some shortcomings. *Check update*

The router not being freestanding really limits the benefits of what I feel Grain Connect is all about and this needs to be mentioned in the order or call. Symmetrical speeds, sometimes triple the download of most ISP’s and half the price! However the placement is key to the user who knows their home. Remove the fallback of liability and implement a freestanding router. It’s definitely needed. I only find I’m getting 100-200mbps better upstairs on my gaming PC compared to TalkTalk’s 500mbps package and I went with the 2gbps with Grain Connect. The fact that it had to be installed below the window and behind the sofa isn’t really multiple gigabit in mind! I’m pleased with the professionalism of the installers and vacuuming whist drilling is top tier workmanship, install was about 40 mins. But my speeds fluctuate like I’m back on FTTC. I had a double Nat type issue after installation and got booted out of games or everyone left, so a call to grain had to be made. I was in hold for about 10mins and I got through to tech and they applied something to fix the issue that would usually be a cost as an add on to a package. I explained that I went with grain for the speeds and found it quite ridiculous that I’d have to pay anything more for something I should already have, so they popped me on hold to spoke to a manager and applied it, it fixed the issue. Being only about a meter above the router upstairs for the gaming PC and only getting 600-700mbps is quite a disappointment on WiFi. I get 1800mbps every blue moon I try it being less than 30 cm away from the router. Never hit 2000mbps yet.

*1st UPDATE* day 3 of having Grain connect and the performance is less than what I previously had with TalkTalk at 500mbps download. I am 30cm away from the router and I get 365mbps D and 145mbps U on a speed test. My conclusion is they only allow throttles when you need/expect it and not what you sign up for. I’ve already stated my issue with speeds in my call previously mentioned and nothing came from the advisor in regard to a solution. A customer should not have to contact a provider multiple times on something they were promised! I’m strongly considering my 14 days cooling off!

*2nd UPDATE* thanks for your reply Grain, I have emailed with the details to hello@grainconnect that also has this review in the email. I hope to hear from you soon.

*3rd UPDATE* I had a lengthy conversation 2 days ago with a Grain Connect Tech expert named Dan and they found there was no fault with the line so between us Dan came up with the possibility that other 5 GHz networks are causing interference so Dan was able to isolate that and I said I’d test it out over two days. That seems to have been the issue as my speed tests across the two days on my phone and computer are what I’d expect them to be now. Top tier tech team and they know their stuff. Thank you Dan. Some teething issues, but I’m getting what I expect now. So changed my review to 5* from 2*

Need Improvement

I had no complaints the first year so I signed up again, the second year the internet kept going off or was so slow that it was unusable. I was two months away from the end of my contract but my patience had run out. I cancelled the remaining two months. Even after they were aware of the problems, it still happened every day sometimes several times per day. They need to get their act together if they are to survive in a market that has so many competitors.

I’ve had a great experience with Grain…

I’ve had a great experience with Grain Connect. The installation process was smooth and the engineers were professional, friendly, and clearly knew what they were doing. They explained everything clearly and made sure the connection was working perfectly before leaving.

Since switching, the internet speeds have been excellent—fast, stable, and exactly as advertised. Streaming, gaming, and working from home have all been seamless with no noticeable dropouts or slowdowns.

Customer service has also been very responsive whenever I’ve had questions. It’s refreshing to deal with a provider that actually delivers on its promises. Overall, I’m very happy with Grain Connect and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for reliable full-fibre broadband.

Happy with it so far,just find it weird the router has to be fixed to the wall in my bedroom,would like it moved closer to the lounge so the tv isn't buffering so much when i stream stuff,this doesn't always happen though!
