This reviews the booking process, not the holiday.
The system for selecting upgrades was unusual and not easy to understand. I found you chose either first class rail or second class before you started, then selected your cabin afterwards. It would be easier to select each in turn after choosing your dates.
It would also be better when downloading the brochure for it to be a pdf, like it wrongly stated, rather than part of a web page. It would make it easier to print out at a reasonable resolution.
Otherwise the web site was easy to navigate and I managed successfully to choose the holiday we wanted.
I suspect that the large number of cabins on the boat that were free reflects the relative difficulty of using this site compared to other sites offering the same or similar cruise, which were more booked up.

Booking is easy as you can view the various tours and hotels and the availability of dates.
The booking team responded quickly and also gave information about parking and train costs to the destination. If I choose rail they will book the tickets. They also got in touch to discuss mobility issues which were resolved

Knew I wanted to book a Rail and Smaller Boat adventure in Norway to see the Northern Lights. Had subscribed to Great Rail Journeys through an article in The Times. So was keen to do a half rail and half boat trip and found the trip we wanted.
The flights were to Oslo and train up to Bergen.
The booking experience was easy and choice of cabins was just what we were looking for. The day trips are bookable on the boat and a dog sled experience was included. The discount helped too!

Been on two holidays with this company, Wales and just recently the Scilly Isles. Cannot say enough good things! Great hotels, great excursions and great tour guides! With them again next year to Italy and a Med cruise!

I had to phone, not for the first time to correct my name as it differed from that on my passport. I got a recorded message saying that the office was closed. It the went on to specify the opening hours and that suggested it was open at the time!

Fabulous holiday. Very well organised and well paced. Our tour guide Lena was amazing, she was kind, caring and extremely helpful, she never seemed to take any time away from her role as leader.

The person I spoke to on the telephone (Elizabeth) was extremely helpful. She sorted out our booking in a friendly, efficient way

The telephone booking was easy, because I have used GRJ before and was already on the system. However, I did ask and pay for an additional bag to be carried to and from the ship with baggage man, which was accepted. When I received my documents however, these implied that the additional bag was only for the outbound journey. I rang to query this and was assured that the additional bag would be taken both ways, but as told it was not possible to alter the information on my booking details. This was disappointing, as on previous river cruises the service has been excellent.

Helpful clarification when I phoned about misleading information (dates on the website regarding use of an alternative hotel did not marry up with 2027 tour dates) and my subsequent email asking which hotels were being used on the tour dates we were considering.
