An amazing holiday with an amazing group of people. Beautiful scenery, lovely excursions and an awesome tour manager that made sure we were looked after and entertained.
This was our first GRJ trip without stepping on a train (our choice). It was a lovely trip up and down the Douro, with a superb caring boat crew who looked after us with every consideration. Food was excellent but three full meals a day was more than necessary, I'm sure a light buffet at lunch would have been sufficient, with perhaps a three course lunch for those who wished to book. Information prior to the trip was inconsistent and therefore anxiety inducing. I had to phone GRJ on at least two occasions for clarification and always polite and helpful telephone staff would clarify that what had been sent to us in written form was not correct. It was therefore a relief to meet someone at Gatwick to direct us. After many trips with GRJ, the tour guide has always been good, this was the first exception. Information given was sometimes inaccurate and conflicting, with a somewhat patronising attitude to the age group on the tour. Her second in command was lovely, but understandably took a low profile
Highly recommend. Enjoyed every single minute of the cruise. Would definately use Great Railway Journeys again. Cruise managers and all the crew, friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough to make our trip enjoyable. A worthy 5 STAR.
Beautiful Scenery. Fabulous ship, crew and food. Comfortable cabins. Interesting excursions and on board entertainment.
Top class. Boat and programme excellent
Well organised. Pleasant accommodation; high standard of cleanliness throughout. Friendly helpful staff . Great service in restaurant. Food plentiful and varied;maybe not always as hot as expected. Most enjoyable cruise with right balance of excursions and free time.
Great people. Really interesting guide. Superb entertainment. Beautiful scenery.
It was lovely we enjoyed the scenery and the shop was really nice. The only thing was we were in cabin 224 and it was very noisy from the engines and also the toilets flushing during the night. Couldn't sleep well. The food and the staff were lovely especially the your manager Rob. He was great.
Our guide was superb and the whole trip was most enjoyable - good food and excellent staff on board. Our only complaint was that there was no representative to meet us at Gatwick and so the four of us had to sit separately on the plane. We tried to check in on line but of course were not able to as we had no reference.
Well organised tour with excellent scenery As an engineer the experience of going through the locks in excess of 34 meters high was a marvel of ingenuity The only criticism would be the 2 hour each way coach ride to Salamanca, any coach ride in excess of one hour is to much when on holiday of this type Other than that a very nice relaxing holiday
Excellent Trip, good boat and Cruise Manager
We were booked on the Duoro Serenity, 91 of us enjoying the peace and tranquility that is the Duoro. The boat was built to the specifications of the river and its locks, beautifully maintained by the crew, no issue too small to be resolved. Immaculately presented throughout. Loved the whole experience! From drinking sparkling wine on our arrival day to watching the fascinating process of going through locks to hearing about port and wine making to watching flamenco, silver service at our evening meals to TaiChi on the sundeck at 7.30 with Bruno. Great service from Nadine and her crew, kudos to our Captain and his crew. Katie and Ed elworked seamlessly and tirelessly behind the scenes, bit like swans, gliding gracefully but paddling like mad. We had 3 guides as well, one per coach, Font of knowledge about anything and everything Portuguese 😁jokes too!would recommend whole heartedly
A well organised trip down Portugal’s beautiful River of Gold on a stunning river ship. Lots of good company, superb food and excellent wines. Add some classic excursions and you have an enjoyable and memorable trip.
I would have liked to give the trip 5 stars as in almost every respect the trip was excellent particularly the two tour hosts Kate and Edward. The holiday failed as my wife is vegetarian and there was very little vegetarian options and during the Gala dinner she was not served a main course in spite of talking to the restaurant manager, nothing was forthcoming. In fact she spent most of the trip eating salad as a main course
It was brilliant, only negative was the lack of evening entertainment or activities
1st class food very comfortable bed well equipped room very friendly crew
A pleasant relaxing river cruise.
This was a very relaxing cruise through beautiful countryside with some very interesting trips
Very relaxing trip. Comfortable cabin and lovely scenery. Occasional confusion over on board vegetarian options only disappointment.
