generally a good company

I've used several similar meal kit companies and I think Green Chef is one of the best. The meals are reasonably healthy and very tasty and there's a good variety for vegetarians - we prefer this to the vegan options that others offer as we eat dairy.
My only gripe with all of these companies is the packaging - I know they give lip service to it being recyclable but I'd prefer if it could be plastic free and use cardboard to insulate rather than the packaging insulating material, which might technically be biodegradable or reusable but hard to do this in practice.

Mouldy food and shocking couriers

Mouldy food, courier never rang the doorbell so it often got left outside for hours. Forgot our recipes once and box was damaged. Why use Evri to deliver something so perishable?! Not worth the money at all! I complained and all they did was send me the recipes via email… doesn’t help with my mouldy peppers!

Be Careful - read before you go ahead

i hadn't picked meals and decided not to go ahead then money was taken form my account and a meal is coming. I had no emails but discovered they had gone into junk. You have to put in card details before you select meals and by then its too late so we warned I feel scammed. Rang customer care and got some but not all of the funds refunded.

Ridiculously expensive for the…

Ridiculously expensive for the vegetarian recipes. Even with 40% discount I was able to purchase the exact same ( but far fresher) ingredients from Waitrose for £30 less! Full price of the boxes is way overpriced - around a £100 for four meals for four people - same ingredients in Waitrose was just under £41 . Don't waste your money on Green Chef.

Brilliant for convenience and flavour,

I recently tried Green Chef, and overall I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the food. The ingredients arrive fresh, the recipes are genuinely tasty, and the meals feel a bit different from the usual meal‑kit options. Every dish I made turned out full of flavour and felt like something I’d happily order in a restaurant.
The introductory box with the discount was fantastic value — definitely worth trying if you’ve never used them before.
However, once the discount ends, the price does jump quite a bit. Paying around £12–£15 per meal for two people feels expensive, especially when you realise you can buy similar ingredients in the supermarket for almost half the cost. While the meals are delicious and convenient, the full‑price subscription isn’t the most budget‑friendly option.
In summary:

✅ Fresh, high‑quality ingredients
✅ Great‑tasting, interesting recipes
✅ Excellent value with the first‑box discount
❌ Full‑price meals feel expensive compared to buying ingredients yourself

Green Chef is brilliant for convenience and flavour, but the ongoing cost might be a bit high if you’re watching your budget.

Misled and mis sold

I was signed up to Green Chef when they were at a trade show. They were under the Hello Fresh banner but were selling Green Chef. I was interested as I used to use Hello Fresh. The guy completely mis-sold me green chef. I realised pretty much straight away so I cancelled my account and any thing else with it. Until 2 weeks later they charged me.

Do not create an account unless you want a box

If I could give zero stars I would. You have to create an account and enter your payment details before you can view the meal options. DO NOT do this!
I did not place an order. I deactivated my account without placing an order yet I was still charged and had a useless box delivered to me (I am vegan and was delivered 2 meat options so it must have been the default selections that were delivered). How many others have fallen foul of this con! It needs sorting out.
I did get a full refund (as a gesture of goodwill 😤) when I contacted customer services but not without a lengthy discussion.

Very disappointed….

Very disappointed…..impossible to cancel. Customer service is lots of lies. Feels like they are trained to lie and hope you go away. When we had the food the quality was worse than hello fresh!Avoid!!!!

Really really poor customer service, this is scam!!! Be careful, they take your money and lie about not receiving it. When we did have boxes, the food was inferior…low quality and overpriced

Reflections on first 2 weeks

I am in week 2 and have really enjoyed every meal so far as the recipes create a wonderful combination of flavours. I admit I got a little confused about the sequence of ordering but have got it sorted now. The quality of the fresh produce is excellent.
The negatives are that the portions are a little large for me. I am a single person and think sometimes I will make 3 portions and freeze if possible. Also, although the food itself has green credentials, there seems to be a lot of packaging waste.
