Written by the company

Hafod have installed over 70 air source heat pumps in the past 12 months including one to provide underfloor heating to keep the abandoned dogs warm at the North Clwyd Animal Rescue charity’s kennels near Holywell. The company, which recently moved to their own carbon-free headquarters at Tremeirchion in the Vale of Clwyd, now employs 11 staff and has become a key player in North Wales in the installation of solar and non-solar systems. Since they began in July 2010 they have fitted over 300 air and ground-source heating systems and last year this sector grew to overtake solar power so that RHI now makes up almost 80 per cent of the £1.5 million turnover business. In those ten years they have also fitted over 10,000 solar panels, including at more than 100 farms, Henllan Bakery, the world’s oldest heritage railway, the Talyllyn, a giant super-school, a rugby club and two golf clubs.

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking. At purchase Hafod promised the world but I've been left well and truly on my own with nowhere to turn. Don't bother, stick to oil, it's much cheaper and more reliable. Very disappointed with Hafod, service is terrible, don't touch. Had a GSHP, cost over £30k. Impossible to get a service from Hafod although they assured me they would at time of purchase. Was assured that callouts would be within 48h if there was a problem but in reality it's months if your lucky. The new GSHP broke down within warranty and Hafod didn't want to know. I was on the backup emersion heater for over one year which is a very expensive way to heat the house. Still no resolution and still waiting for a fix. It's been a very expensive lesson in the disastrous renewables policy of government. Gladly going back to oil and cut my losses which is going to be many thousands.

Hafod - Certas running is terrible

Hafod installed my GSHP and have since been acquired by Certas. They no longer support/service previous customers which is a real issue within the industry. Avoid using them now as Certas appear terrible with equally terrible customer service.

Disgraceful customer support and service

I had solar panels and a storage battery installed at my property in 2021. The solar panels are great, I can't fault these. However, when the battery was installed the junction box was not installed correctly and subsequently the switch burned out. An engineer came and 'fixed' it with a temporary fix which he said would need to be done properly once a certain part came in. 12 months went by and the temporary fix was still in place. 6 months ago, the battery started switching itself off. Initially, the engineers visited and 'fixed' it - they just switched it back on. This would last maybe two weeks maximum and I would have to call again. They also made it so that the battery charged at night off the grid instead of the solar PV as was intended!
More recently, I made an appointment for them to attend and they didn't show up - no email or phone call to tell me they were cancelling. After several attempts to get in touch another appointment was made for tomorrow - which they have also cancelled with no offer of an alternative date or request for me to call them to reschedule. This issue has been ongoing for SIX MONTHS with no resolution in sight. Extremely disappointing and I will be pursuing the matter further.

Poor customer experience

Have a problem with solar panels installed by Hafod 3 and half years ago. They do not respond to email or phone calls regarding the problem. I have been advised to try and claim through credit card insurance to get the panels fixed. This really is dreadful customer after care from Hafod!

Unreliable and untrustworthy

As soon as something goes wrong with the install they claim they have no engineers to fix the issue. I now have a £5000 9.5kwh paperweight sitting at my property. Multiple missed appointments to fix now to be told they aren’t going to fix it.

Avoid at all costs. Once they have your cash that’s it.

Excellent after sales

Had a system installed a year ago & had a problem with it Jacob Marshall from Hafod was straight in touch with an engineer booked in. The engineer battled terrible weather to get to us & was very thorough at getting to the bottom of the problem. Thanks so much for your help

After Sales Service

Having had a problem with my battery system I had Hafod come out to diagnose and rectify the fault.

The technician named Ben has been most helpful. He and a colleague relocated the battery for me and replaced the faulty item(s) under warranty. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

I would also like to thank Ellis and Sophie for their professionalism in dealing with my breakdown.

Excellent Support

Have just taken ownership of a Hafod installed solar panel and battery storage system. Technical support is excellent, Mike and Jake sorted out our account in minutes and gave great advice on saving money with the system. It's clear that we are in great hands with the Hafod team.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Absolute shambles of a company avoid at all costs. They dont hold a valid mcs certification as the only person who was qualified has now left. They also sub out all works as have no experienced engineers

One of my close friends had Hafod in to install a gshp 2 years ago it has had to be ripped out and started again as they had mis sold and undersized both the ground loops and unit

Unreliable, inadequate equipment and terrible service

We had Hafods do a PV/Battery/ASHP install for us which has been a disaster from start to finish. We thought we were doing the right thing supporting a local company and going "green". The PV installers were unreliable and installed the array inefficiently, the inverter was underpowered for the needs of the house even before the ASHP went in, which was delayed months and still is not complete. The communication has been terrible throughout, booking appointment times and never turning up, coming with the wrong parts, leaving holes in the wall and sloppy workmanship. They had no hesitation in claiming government grants even before the work was complete. Wish we had known beforehand that we were not the only ones...

Hafod installed solar panels and after care.

Hafod installed solar panels and battery storage on our property in Jun 2022 and everything was fine until Certas Energy bought them out at the end of 2023.Certas arranged for an electrical contractor ( Zinnia ) to check out our system in Apr and this was nothing short of disastrous. Zinnia isolated our system and then left the property without switching it back on. After we returned from holiday 10 days later we discovered this error and rebooted the system ourselves as we could not contact ANYBODY with it being a Sunday of a bank holiday weekend and there was no 24hr emergency out-of-hours contact number on the website.Within 24 hrs of us rebooting the system an isolator switch went on fire around 7pm on the Mon night. Luckily for us my wife smelled burning and when we investigated found smoke coming from an isolator box. Again we had no means of contacting Hafod/ Certas to get someone out to check the safety of the system and so powered it down again until we could get someone out on the Tuesday to do a thorough system check before starting up again.
We have raised our concerns to Hafod on the lack of competence shown by Zinnia and our belief that it was not a coincidence that our system went on fire after we rebooted it when they had been interfering with it for no apparent reason. Hafod's response was to send an engineer to check out the system and install a smoke detector in the garage to make sure that if it happened again the alarm would go off !! UNBELIEVABLE.
Hafod's handling of our complaint has been nothing short of shocking and I would advise anyone out there to avoid this company at all costs if you value customer care and after-sales service.Anyone who already has one of their systems just hope and pray that it does not malfunction at weekends because nobody is there to help. If it was possible to leave no stars on this review then I would have gladly done so.

Helpful and supportive advice.

Helpful and supportive advice from the beginning of the process. Very efficient installation - from the start of the installation, two days to recording our first kw of solar power. After-sales has been available by phone or e-mail with advice and support.
Altogether a great experience with this company.

Hafod designed, contracted and installed a “heating system” outside of their own competent person scheme

Had a site survey performed by Hafod, then a paid technical survey performed by Hafod all before Hafod designed, contracted and installed a “heating system” outside of their own competent person scheme who have since stated “this is not a heating system.” Now the entire setup is destined for the bin along with 4 replacement lintels all at my own expense after nearly 2 years of ongoing dispute whilst Hafod now state “please stop sending in the emails to me, Hafod and Certas, as these can no longer be accepted”

Failed to turn up today as promised replace heating system which has not worked correctly since purchased 3 years ago. Reason given that engineer no longer works for them. They failed to reschedule that work to someone else or inform me that an alternative date required. Promised call back to confirm new date, but this hasn't happened
They seriously need to work on their customer service as not 1st time call back not happened

I’m still discouraged and perplexed with the outcome of this heating system installed by Hafod and personally won’t recommend this company.

Solar repair

The solar system is now fixed after nearly 2 months and countless phone calls and emails. The scafolding came down on the 12th march. I sent a letter of complaint to the new Managing Director of Hafod explaining everything and got a sorry and to restore my faith in Hafod I should be greatfull for having a fully working system now.

Hafod will follow up and fix issues

We have a hybrid air source heat pump, installed by Hafod in April 22. We had some initial problems with the installation which took a while to iron out, but Hafod staff have been attentive and have worked through all the issues. Today they have come out and fixed a minor breakdown. I would recommend Hafod. These systems are complex, but Hafod do have the manpower and they will follow up when you need them.

Taking the plunge into solar energy was…

Taking the plunge into solar energy was easy with Hafod. They gave me a good deal on a system appropriate for my bungalow. The installation was performed by a first class team in a day.
The only reason for not giving 5 stars was that their communication could be better, it didn’t quite match up to what they said would happen.
Thinking about making enquiries for alternative heating options I will certainly be contacting Hafod for an estimate

Do not use Hafod!

Do not use Hafod!
I have had a heat pump installed in August 2022 by Hafod costing £13.5k (£5k was government grant).
In less than a year the element to cylinder failed, it kept on taking out circuit to my consumer unit. Not knowing the cause I paid for electrician who advised it was the element.
It has taken 6 months for Hafod to come back to me saying it's not under warranty and want charge me £350 to fix. I'm challenging this, needless to say to avoid any problems I would encourage people to seek a company more reputable and avoid these disputes.
Although Hafod finally solved the issue with my hot water cylinder after seeking legal advice, the second element has failed, clearly this shouldn't be happening and clearly a fault with the install.
