Thoroughly disappointed in this company…

Thoroughly disappointed in this company and my unprofessional assessment.
After 6 weeks I still do not have a diagnosis report from the assessment, despite being advised when I booked that I would have the report within two weeks.
I have spoken with numerous different admins who answer the phones, all of who are very polite yet nothing has been resolved. I emailed management and have not even had an acknowledgement of my email.

I felt like a cash cow

My daughter has been under the “care” (I use that word very loosely based on her experience) of Harley Psychiatrists for almost a year.

The initial appointment with the psychologist was fairly thorough (lasting about an hour) and they were very professional. The second appointment with the Psychiatrist, was extremely brief, lasting only 10 minutes. In this appointment she was given her diagnosis and offered medication. From there she was sent the first month of medication, the only investigations done prior to receiving medication was to request that she take her own blood pressure and submit this via an online form. She wasn’t advised to chase any further investigations with her GP. There was very little talk around side effects, potential impact on my health or advice given around alternative treatments/therapy. There was a £45 cost for the doctor to send a prescription to the pharmacy, then a further £65ish for the medication.

During the second month of titration, it took Harley Psychiatrists about 4 weeks to get the prescription to the pharmacy and she ran out of medication for 2 weeks, this was at a time when you are supposed to take it every day whilst the dose is increasing. We chased them very frequently by email as no one ever answered the phone when we called. She didn’t once receive an adequate apology. They also tried to blame the pharmacy for this delay, but I spoke with the pharmacy on the phone and they were extremely helpful with chasing from their end, but the problem was with Harley Psychiatrists end.

On top of this, they hounded us to pay for the next titration appointment which she couldn’t have until they had sent the medication and she had taken it for a few days so they could review the dose increase. In my experience, they only communicate well when there is money involved for themselves.

The appointments during titration lasted less than 5 minutes each time, despite being booked for 30 minutes and costing £195 each time.

Our GP won’t go into a shared care agreement with Harley Psychiatrists as they “don’t trust that they would be able to get in contact with them if needed [in an urgent case or if advice is needed]”. This was a concern they had before the panorama documentary, so they clearly had their doubts about the level of service offered.

*everything stated above is my opinion/personal experience and not fact. It Isn’t intended to be advice. (just in case they try to threaten me with legal action like they have with other people who left a less than good review).

Amazing experience

Amazing experience! The initial assessment was given by Helena Vellas and I was able to take my time answering the questions as sometimes you have to think back to your childhood. There was a cancellation the following day so I was able to have my chat with the psychiatrist (Ramesh Shankar) who was professional and patient with me and made the process comfortable.

All round great experience and very happy! :)

Neglectful to the point of abuse

I was mistreated by Harley Psychiatrists from March '21 until I finally convinced the more local NHS adult ADHD service to take me on. Harley has access to good psychologists and psychiatrists, yet their administration was absolutely abhorrent and their pricing was nothing short of abusive.

I'm not going to complain about their diagnosis costs, which are extortionate, but rather I turn my focus to their repeat prescription service, the only real job this "middle man" between desperate sufferers with ADHD in this country and affective treatment for it's less convenient symptoms.

£45 to order a repeat prescription was the fee throughout 2021 and 2022. Every 28 days (28 pills in a bottle). I would request a repeat 10 days before I was due to run out (their maximum amount of time to prevent people stocking up I guess) and on at least 4 occasions (a third of the time as I was only under their inadequate care for around a year) they didn't get the prescription out to the pharmacist. Let's look at this for a sec. £45 so a doctor can post a letter. The times they were late I had to chase it up, push for action, complained, all that. The situation didn't change. It likely still hasn't. I have nothing good to say about them other than they were quick to get me assessed and quick to send me payment requests. So quick at getting money from me.

In short Harley were profiteering, neglectful and I'd even say dangerous for vulnerable people to deal with. I'd even go as far as to say that they are a shining example of what happens if capitalists get hold of an essential service. Money flows from the people to corporations and who cares about whether or not anyone is actually treated? Not Harley.

AVOID. You have been warned.

Really good experience so far with…

Really good experience so far with Harley Psychiatrists. Don’t listen to this rubbish about the BBC panorama. I had both autism assessment and ADHD assessment, after very long but thorough assessments I was diagnosed and could move forward. These clinicians know what they are doing and have worked many years in the NHS. Dr Antonesei was lovely and made me feel at ease as did Dr Shankar who was the consultant conducting the assessments. I can not thank them enough, this diagnosis was life changing for me.

Content

I am very happy with the professionalism of both psychologist and psychiatrist.
My ADHD diagnosis was at the lower end of the spectrum and medication wasn’t pushed. I felt I wanted to try them because I struggle with concentration and impulsivity. I was listened to and felt the care was patient centred. Thanks

I want my money back!

I was promised a link to get my medication on Monday.
The link was never sent and nobody
Seems to know where my prescription is.
I keep ringing the staff who promise to call me back and do not.
They have emailed the doctor several times but he has not responded.
I am in a mess and am desperate for my medication.

I was a bit apprehensive after seeing the BBC documentary but I had a really good experience on my appointment with the psychologist & she was very professional showing understanding & I didn’t not feel pressured but the Dr I was given was a different experience A nice enough guy even tho he vaped in my meeting but it took 2 months to get my diagnosis report & after many calls & emails I eventually got it causing me a lot of anxiety & stress If it wasn’t for Matthew at Harley I doubt I would still have got my report I noticed he is not on the team now & have been allocated another Dr

Good experience of care

My experience with Harley Psychiatrists was so different to what was shown on the documentary. I was treated with professionalism and care throughout my journey.

My assessment was spread over 3 phases. I had to complete a lot of pre-assessment questionnaires, some of which my parents needed to complete which included information about my development and childhood. I also had to complete questionaries about my mental health as well as ADHD related symptoms.

I then had a 90 minute appointment with a clinical psychologist who went through extensive questions, asking me to give examples. She was very thorough, she didnt put words into my mouth, and it didnt feel like a tick box questionnaire. She said she was not able to diagnose me, but my answers indicated that I have ADHD.

I then had a 45 min appointment with a psychiatrist 2 weeks later, who went over more questions, requesting more examples. Reviewed all my questionnaires and the rapport provided by the clinical psychologist. He went over my medical history as well. He then diagnosed me with ADHD combined type. This was not a surprise to me, I was 99% sure I had ADHD before even booking the assessment. We then discussed treatment options, i already decided a long time ago that if i had ADHD i wanted to try medication, which after discussing my medical history and reviewing my physical obs (blood pressure, pulse, height, weight), started me on a very low dose with instructions to monitor my blood pressure and pulse daily. I was reviewed a couple of weeks later, and was slowly titrated up to my current dose.

I was shocked when I watched the program, as my experience was so different to the one they portrayed.

A real experience with Harley phsyciatrists

I know there has been some stuff speculating the media at the moment regarding the BBC documentary, however I would just like to add a take from a real costumer here.
For a little back story , when I was a child , I was diagnosed with adhd , sort of. I went to multiple appointments regarding this and was diagnosed however my mum did not attend the follow up appointment so the diagnosis was never official.
After years of research and teachers and people around me telling me they think I have ADHD I confronted my mum about this at 13, she refused to get me re tested as she didn’t want the stress.
Fast forward a few years im now 18 and no longer live with my mother. However the effects of adhd still impact my life heavily. Recently I was seen by an NHS phsyciatrist for my mental health and he was also , from just spending as little as a hour with me, pretty sure most my problems were caused by ADHD and advised to get tested.
I then did even more research as this is a big payment and found Harley phsyciatrist and decided to book an appointment.

Since the get go they have been extremely supportive, the day I booked the appointment I had a phone call from the admin team, and they gave me a lot of information and a number to call back if need be. I called back 3 times that day with different questions that had popped up and they never once answered wrongly and where always supportive. Following this I received of information and leaflets followed by 6 very long time consuming questionnaires. One of witch my dad had to fill out, these had many in depth questions from when I was a child to now, my mental health now , anxiety and depression scores and questions on ADHD symptoms. This took ( including the time it took my dad to do the form he needed to fill out about me as a child) around 2 hours.
Following this I had a zoom call which lasted around an hour and a half enitial assessment where the lady was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. We went through 4 main groups of questions along with talking about how I was as a child, what I was good at and not good at , how my emotions where , what adhd symptoms I recognise in myself as a child and what people around me said, e.t.c and the same for now.
Following this I had an appointment with a diffrent psychiatrist who spent another hour and a half on a call with me discussing theses symptoms further and how they effect my life in diffrent ways. The questions where quite vague and not leading so the phsyciatrist could have a full understanding of my struggles. We then discussed that she had concluded a diagnoses of adhd, not only this explained I present as both inattentive and hyperactive sides of adhd. We also discussed medication, she spent a good 15 minutes explaining the side effects, how they may mak me feel, what time I should take them as they can effect sleep, what times of day is best to take them. I was also warned about the effects of alcahol and drugs on these medications and the risks of falling pregnant on them e.t.c following this conversation, she also sent me a leaflet on the specific medication she suggested.
She also asked for a formal blood pressure and heart rate reading from me and I was sent a psychiatrist health questionnaire previously to ensure that I am physically able to have this medication.

Since this I have also had emails about if I want a follow up appointment, and if I want to contact my GP for shared care. All in all a brilliant experience from this conpany.
My take on the BBC documentary is that it was first of all an unfair test , the NHS doctor was aware this was an investigation unlike the other private firms, also, the NHS doctor on the BBC isn’t who he says it is and anyone who belives a word that comes out of his mouth should do there own research, on this doctor , as he actually isn’t as clued up about ADHD as he says he is. Also, the guy doing this was very clearly wording his answers in order to fake having adhd during the private assessments. all this has achieved is increasing difficulty for people with ADHD to get help on this condition which isn’t just hyperactive as evryone belives, it’s crippiling and makes life so so much harder. This has also just encouraged people who can go private not to, meaning that the NHS , who are already knee deep in a 5 year wait list , is going to have more pressure on them. And all in all just created even more stigma about this condition then there already is.
So Thank-you BBC, from someone who has spent there entire life researching what is wrong with me, and dealing with the issues this comes with. For making it worse , for all of us.

Harley psychiatrist, from my experience are a brilliant company and have helped me so much so far.

I have had a very good experience

I have had a very good experience. The psychologist featured in the Panorama was friendly and polite. She made me feel relaxed when asking questions about my condition. She was thorough and answered all of my questions in great detail. I left reassured.

Nothing but praise for my experience

I want to speak about my experience of Harley Psychiatrists especially after the scathing BBC Panorama documentary. From my first contact with Annabelle who took my initial call to my in depth consultation with the Psychologist Helena Vellas and finally to my diagnosis with Dr Hareem Siddiqui, I have nothing but the highest of praise for their professional conduct, kindness and understanding around what has been a very long and stressful journey, arriving at a place of finally understanding why I am the way I am. Having undiagnosed ADHD has robbed me of so much throughout my life, mentally, emotionally, relationally and financially, and to finally recieve a diagnosis 2 months ago has been so validating. I've had years of suffering with Anxiety and Depression and a bad relationship with food. I am now on my way to living a healthier and happier life, with a renewed compassion for and understanding of myself. I was only able to go privately due to kind family members who saw my distress and funded my consultations. If I had waited for my referral, which my gp agreed to through the NHS, I would have had to wait 2 plus years and at 52 i didn't want to waste any more of my life. My experience was nothing like the one portrayed on the programme, it was professional, lengthy and thorough.

Fuming about this documentary

Fuming about this documentary. Panorama have lied, the assesments are long and gruelling. Multiple paperwork, medical history, family history and multiple questionnaires. Two long appointments a week apart.

We couldn't afford to pay private for my daughters medication and they put us straight back to nhs, so it's nonsense they medicate to make money.

As for misdiagnosis, I was misdiagnosed by the nhs as bipolar. Given strong dangerous meds and never monitored. I am monitored closely by Harley psychiatrist by dr maritan who actually wants to listen and help.

Behaving Like a Cult

I feel I have to mention this BBC investigation. Shockingly it seems similar to a cult I was in, if you have anything negative to say about the practices you're gaslit, it's your fault and they make ridiculous claims by their supposed lawyers.

From the website the psychiatrists are qualified so who's getting them to commit unethical practices management? Maybe it is another therapy cult posing as a legitimate practice with an authoritarian Director? Who comes up with these cowboy assessments?

Saved us!

I am fuming about the negative publicity. I did a lot of research into the Psychiatrist concerned who has saved our family and no, she did not decide willy-nilly that my child was adhd #panorama. We have had regular, fortnightly appointments with full sessions interviewing members of the family, taking background information from other interested parties such as the school, talking to my child etc for months. It took us a while to get a proper diagnosis because she is a true professional, clear registration with GMC and works for NHS as Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Since Harley Street, no external agencies have had to be called so that in itself speaks volumes! Thank you for your help. My family and I appreciate it even if others don't
