Diagnostic Charge

Recently asked Hawco VW commercial to quote me for replacing transmission sump gasket and oil as the gasket had a slight leak. They said I had to book it in for a diagnostic check which would cost £162. I said I don’t need that as it was me who found the leak and all I need is a quote to replace gasket and oil but they told me it was policy to get the check done first.
I did not need this expensive check as I knew what the issue was and was asking for a simple job to be quoted for and carried out. If they wanted to check for themselves before starting that would be fine but that would take literally 30 seconds. £162 is around an hour and a half’s labour time even at an extortionate rate.
I ended up doing the job myself for less than the price of the check!

VW and Hawco do good work and have great staff but this price related issue needs addressed.

Awful customer service

Ordered oil and filter from Hawco Audi Inverness on Saturday. Gave my registration number and was assured 5 litres would be sufficient as it only requires 4.6 litres.
Got a phone call from our local garage on Tuesday, there’s not enough oil, the car will need over 6 litres.
Phone Audi again, “ah yes, your car is a 3 litre engine so it will need more oil” 🙄. Pretty sure this would have shown up when they typed the number plate in to their system!
Audi assured me they would phone the local garage and arrange delivery as we don’t live in Inverness.
This morning, get another call from the local garage as the oil hasn’t been delivered.
Phone Audi, “we didn’t know which courier to send it up with”. Really?? After phoning the local garage specifically to discuss this issue AND being told by them which courier to use? Then lying to try and save face by saying they weren’t told…if so, what was the point in that phone call then?
So now, a simple oil change which should have taken half a day has now rolled on for 3 days (assuming the oil actually arrives tomorrow) all because Hawco can’t be bothered to train their staff in the very basics such knowing how much oil each car type takes.
Hawco are an utter disgrace living off the family name of relatives that build the company. Avoid if possible as they really do not care about their customers.

Excellent service ID3 test drive

I booked a test drive today in an ID3. The service was very efficient, with the car prepared and ready to go as arranged. I was very impressed with the salesperson, Erin, who clearly showed me how to work the technology and answered all my questions in a friendly and knowledgeable way.

Never, ever again, be warned.

My experience with Hawco group and VW customer services started with a six month repair of the media system in our T6.
This began with ‘nothing we can do’ then “nothing we can do until VW issues a software fix”, then “ we could maybe replace the media unit”… and a bare minimum of service after that.

After finally fixing that problem, after 5 or 6 visits, they noticed a couple of bubbles in the paint work on the tailgate… take it to our bodyshop for a quote to send to VW…. A week later they call me to tell me VW says they wont pay for the repair, thats a grand please to fix it, oh and your only a month out of warranty on the paint, no good will… tough.

VW did eventually agree to a 90% contribution though - more than happy with that.

When the paint is repaired I pick it up, “ all covered under warranty” I’m told, how nice, are you sure? “yes” said Hawco… off I go on my merry way and I even told VW customer services of the conversation, who called that afternoon to try to close the case , who didn’t disagree and said they had covered the cost.

A week later Hawco now want the 10%, and following a heated call with them where I point out they offered nothing in the way of a goodwill gesture following the months of terrible service and they told me twice it was covered, and of the call with VW customer they still insist on it.

Then a week later I get a call from VW customer services telling me I still owe the 10%, which I’m sure I’ll end up paying just to end this farce.

I’ve no problem with the contribution at all, just the awful, terrible service that Hawco offers, I’ll never, ever set foot in that place again.

My wife wanted Audi to check the…

My wife wanted Audi to check the battery, and find the cause of a noise coming from the rear. They charged over £200 to say the battery was not holding its charge, and provided a long list of things wrong, which would cost over £3000 to fix, but couldn't say what the noise was, which was apparently from the front, travelling to the back. Complete nonsense, told them they were pulling the wool over my eyes. Rude, patronising, hardnosed, inaccurate............ won't be back.

Worth it at double the distance!

Travelled up to Hawko Elgin after seeing my car advertised, and made an enquiry. Graham and the rest of the team were amazing - super helpful, great communication, and bent over backwards to help us.

We travelled up from Northampton to drive the car home, and the whole experience was a joy from start to finish - they're all so friendly and genuine, helpful and honest. An absolute credit to Volkswagen.

Excellent after care

I have an Audi A4 purchased from Highland Audi, a fault arose with my stop start system, this was fixed under warranty, the staff were absolutely brilliant, making my experience very pleasant, I travelled from Thurso and was provided with a courtesy car until the car was fixed. Highly recommend Highland Audi for car sales and after care service.

Both VW and Hawco couldn’t give a stuff.

Ok, I’m up on holiday in Moray. My VW T6 is 7days, yes, 7 days out of manufacturers warranty when a shock absorber explodes. 25k miles. Both VW and Hawco want full price for repair. That’s the level of service from Hawco and VW. Hawco told VW that “they’d never seen the vehicle before” - what’s that about? Do I need to visit every VW dealer wherever I go on holiday so that they can admire my vehicle? Hugely disappointed with zero customer service from both VW and Hawco. It’s the last time I set foot on a VW dealers’ forecourt, and you can kiss goodbye to the ID Buzz I was going to order - from Hawco, as I’m moving up here. It’s your loss. 7 days out of warranty and Hawco/VW couldn’t give a stuff. Beware folks!

Very disappointing service and not able…

Very disappointing service and not able to communicate between them when arranging a new car to be collected. They put our car round to a ceramic polisher and then took it away again and asked for the payment which was done, then they wouldn't put it back as then they where liable going round on trade plates. I asked for an invoice and was given a 75 x 25mm that I couldn't read, but I made the payment anyway. We have to wait till the car is taxed before we can take it to the polisher therefore delaying the appointment. We complained but the Sales Manager was no better. I would say for customer service I can only describe it as very poor. The car is an RS3 for my son who will buy lots of cars in his life, but now not from them. Just a pity Audi uses a poor dealer....the servicing will be done at Audi Perth. The only reason we dealt with Inverness, is my son new the sales person as we had been told by others they were generally quite poor.

Hawko Peterhead

Hawko Peterhead

I usually detest car salesman with all their patter and overinflated egos, however I bought my VW Tiguan from Hawko in November 2021 and very surprised with the amazing brilliant customer support, very competitive prices… I expected to pay more being a smaller rural garage, however it was the opposite.
Really cannot fault the service deals and warranty that came with the car
Will now use them again for my next car.
I’d definitely recommend this particular branch to anyone looking for a car.

Having purchased 2 Audis from Highland…

Having purchased 2 Audis from Highland Audi, and latterly from Perth Audi, my move was vindicated today. I have had my vehicles serviced at Highland Audi, but after today that will not be happening again. I was parked up in my business van on what I thought was a public carpark to the rear of the Eurocell store, having a cup of tea. I was approached by an irate man who demanded to know what I was doing, as he used expletives towards me. I told him that I found his attitude threatening, and asked his name. John Hawco, he replied. One of the directors of the Hawco group. He told me that he owned the carpark and paid £500 per parking slot and that I was not welcome. He further continued to take my photo which infringed on my privacy. He is a very unpleasant individual and as I said I now purchase my vehicles from Perth Audi, as do many people from the Highlands. This man is a very bad example to his staff. I recommend all to go to Perth Audi, where customers are treated very well. Business owners should lead by example. This individual is obviously so full of his own importance that he has forgotten basic manners.

Dissapointing

I brought my VW Touran in for a Major service at Hawco Inverness. I was told (over the phone) what a major service would entail and the price. So I felt I had a certain level of expectation and commitment. When the car was ready, I was told what was done and how much. This did not tally up with what was originally booked in. I spoke to the service person and I requested the other services items to be done as previously agreed but was told I would have to pay more for any of the other items on the list of the major service, pushing the initial agreed price up by 40%. I was not happy and explained this, but realised I would never get the car back for my disabled wife so just decided to just pay to get our car back. Then we got the car home, it seemed slightly rougher to drive and start. Winter was coming and I put on winter tyres and the weather got colder, much colder, so I initially put it poor performance down to the weather. But the car got worse, so much so it started to play up and not start or idle properly, especially in really cold weather. About a month and a half later with fuel economy down to 20mpg, I thought all this odd as I had scanned the car with VCDS before I took the car in and there were no faults. So I scanned the car again, this time it reported multiple faults, some with the glow plug module, and even the stereo module. I looked under the bonnet, the coolant level was half what it should have been, the oil level was lower than it should have been and checked the relay box and fuses, there were x4 fuses missing. Not blown, totally missing! Having checked this prior to taking the car in I could not fathom why these would now be missing. Having now replaced the fuses the car is now back to its pre-service performance. I have topped up the fluids and the car seems to be working correctly with another scan reporting no faults.

Removing fuses. A mistake? Deliberate? Who knows.
Not filling up the fluids, a mistake? Deliberate? Who Knows.
But based on this experience, I will never use them again and certainly not recommend them to anyone else.
