I recently rented a car from hertz…pleasant, patient and kind- they don’t do them anymore but hertz will change your mind
I recently rented a car from hertz Dublin airport, I was met by a charming pleasant chap, he was friendly and patient, as it took me a while to rummage through my handbag - the ladies reading this will understand! There was a que starting to form behind me at this stage, but this chap on this desk assured me that there was no rush. In all my year travelling and renting cars I must admit that I would return to hertz and this is because of this chap, he done his job to perfection, was patient and kind. You don’t get people like this nowadays. He was from Galway he said after I told him I was returning to attend a family reunion there.
My overall experience was excellent, I was met by a friendly smile, a patient gentleman who reassured me that there was no rush. I seen the negative reviews on here but I have to admit my experience couldn’t be further from them. I’ll be back and I wish them a pleasant and happy new year.

Got me out of a jam.
My son was moving house recently and the van we were using left us down at the last minute . So I rang Hertz van rental in Railway st. Cork where I spoke with William. He was such a pleasure to deal with and his coustomer care a second to none . He is a credit to your company and a Gent. Would definitely use Hertz again if the need should arise .

By far the worst rental experience over…
By far the worst rental experience over decades of renting. Booked and pre-paid for a new shape Renault Megane. Check-in girl at Dublin airport was very unhelpful and said the megane was not available so gave me the equivalent, a Dasia would you believe. When it was obvious they had me over a barrel as I was driving straight to a funeral I decided to take up the matter when I returned the car. The Dasia had warning lights as soon as I left and writhing a matter of hours broke down. When the car was replaced they did so with yet another Dasia, also with engine warning lights lit. The manager at the airport told me to right to their head office, which I did and have heard nothing. I also learnt from their staff that the `Dasia’s always have problems and they actually don’t have Meganes at Dublin airport anyway. Please do not book with Hertz/Dollar or Thyfty as they are all the same company and are actually a franchise owned by a Wexford family

Horrible
Guaranteed model (Golf) was not available.
Queues at the rental counter despite online check in.
Hire is at the airport but return is off airport, so you need to leave 30 minutes early
Never rent with Hertz again
I rented a car from Hertz for a period of two days. Over my 15 years of driving experience, I have encountered only one time a small chip in the windshield. Remarkably, this incident supposedly occurred during my brief two-day rental with Hertz. It is important to note that the chip was already present when I picked up the vehicle; however, it was not visible in the low-resolution photos provided by the company.
Despite my clear assertion that the damage existed prior to my rental, Hertz is insisting on charging me approximately 800€ for the entire windshield replacement. This seems exorbitant, especially considering that such a repair could be completed for around 15€ in a matter of minutes. It is evident that Hertz is attempting to take advantage of this situation and overcharge for a repair that is both unjustified and disproportionately expensive.
Reading other reviews it seems to be a common practice. So I hope my experience prevent others from falling victim to such practices.
I strongly discourage anyone from renting a vehicle from this company, as my experience suggests they may engage in fraudulent and ilegal activities.

Update: There is still no response from Hertz. I will start taking this matter to the relevant authorities to report the theft.

Poor customer service
I rented with Hertz through a third party Rentalcars. This was the fourth time this year I have used Hertz at Dublin airport this will me my last never again.
I booked again because I like to collect the car in terminal and had done so every other occasion - not this time.
I met a very rude Hertz agent in Terminal 1 who told me to get the bus to the offsite collection point despite the voucher stating “in terminal”. This guy was beyond rude and unhelpful when I enquired where is the shuttle bus the reply “outside” pointing to the door.
We eventually found the bus (no thanks to him) at the rental desk we were eventually given a vehicle, upon inspection the passenger side wing mirror was hanging off (not roadworthy or safe) back into the office car exchanged upon
Inspection of this different vehicle several areas of unreported damage found - back to the rental office to have this damage noted (more time wasted). We set off for Waterford City when we were nearly there the vehicle oil light comes on - now a visit to the Waterford City Hertz rental site I was told it will be ok.
I rang Dublin site making them aware only to be told do not drive this car we will be in touch, this was on a Saturday on Monday morning telephone call received go back to Waterford City and exchange this vehicle. What a complete and utter debacle this rental
had become and wasted my valuable time.
I contacted Hertz Ireland I received the usual
diatribe from their customer services.
Be warned they do not carry out thorough checks of their vehicles and you can be rest assured they will charge YOU for any damage you do not note upon collection.
Needless to say I will NEVER use Hertz Ireland again appalling company.
I have just received an email from Hertz Ireland wishing more information so I have provided them with my booking reference. I am astounded they couldn’t find my details with all of the above information supplied - I believe this is done in the hope people won’t reply and the poor review is then removed by trust pilot.
Hertz Ireland customer services want me to email them I find that incredible - I have already been in dialogue by email with a Mr Manning Hertz Operations Director based in Wexford, he sent me the usual copy and paste apology reply. As I have already stated the service was beyond poor and as result a days car hire lost because of their faulty vehicle and not a penny of recompense offered. I am completely done with Hertz Ireland. I have already booked my next rental at Dublin Airport with an alternative company.
You have all been warned

I wish I could give zero stars
I wish I could give zero stars. I booked through Dollar and when I got to Dunkin was sent to Hertz. I was talked into a smaller car that broke down almost instantly (27 highway km or less). It took over 6 hours to get a replacement which I then drove 3,000 km over the next 13 days without issue. I flew home to the US and two weeks later checked my credit card for a huge charge from Hertz - they provided proof the clutch went out on the first car and I’m responsible for the full repair. It’s just not possible to burn out a perfectly good clutch that quickly - I was rented a damaged car. Every email I send is just replied back to with their mechanic’s report of the burnt clutch.
Edited to add: Thank you for the reply that still does not explain how I burned out a clutch in 27highway km and then was somehow able to drive 3,000 km without issue on the replacement car.

Fleeced by Hertz
I had a pre-paid rental voucher (via Rentalcars) which included Full Protection Insurance (at significant extra cost). Imagine my disbelief when I was subsequently charged for additional insurances and protections that were NOT explained or advised to me at the time of collection. I have rented hundreds of cars over the years and I am not naive or negligent with rental bookings. In this case, I truly believe I was conned by the Hertz rep and I will do all in my power to spread the word with friends and colleagues to avoid such dishonest practise. Hertz is a global name for car rental and they should be ashamed that such fraudulent techniques are allowed. I can see from other recent comments that lots of customers have experienced similar. Do something about it Hertz!

Excessive charges and deceptive practices
Reserved a 7 passenger car at Hertz Dublin airport and was quoted $1500 for a week. Arrived at Hertz Dublin airport location and was told they didn’t have the car on the lot. They told us we needed a new reservation and only had one 5 seater car that would accommodate us. They completely disregarded our reservation and charged us $5000. I complained several times to Hertz in the US and Dublin and requested an adjustment. They claim they had 7 passenger cars on the lot and it was our decision to make a new reservation. Very shady operation!!!!!! I have rented cars for more than 30 years in my business and never experienced this issue. They deserve 0 stars and to be investigated for taking advantage of customers.

I would give 0 stars if I could
I would give 0 stars if I could. Terrible service - check your credit card statements when you get home. I have relatives in Ireland so frequently fly to Shannon and hire a car. Every time I’m charged additional fees with no explanation, despite returning filled with petrol and on time. Hertz then take weeks to come back with to explain. Completely unethical.

Find another car rental
No feedback.
Charge of money for extra insurance for nothing.
No late night service for delayed airplane.
So never never Hertz in Ireland again

Long lines, no cars
Long lines. Only two people working at the counter, servicing hertz, thrifty and one more. Later one more joined. 18 folks in line! Each customer is taking 10-15 mins each. Others are waiting over 30 mins for keys to their cars (?)
Absolute chaos. If id known, I would have taken the train.

I rented a car for 8 days prepaid 260…
I rented a car for 8 days prepaid 260 on 15 September online, when I arrived at the desk I was asked for another 400, 60€ for some glass, tire coverage then 28 per day also 20€ extra as they do not accept debit cards lol.
I returned the car on Saturday the 22nd and got charged an extra 259€ and 60€ at 00:00 midnight! Without prior notice or call but they would expect you to call and announce if you’re arriving a bit later or so. Literally bs never going to rent from Thrifty, hertz

Frustrating Experience
Pickup was easy and quick, but the drop off was frustrating. The South Lott Rd Hertz in Dublin closes at 5:00 pm, but no one answered the phone. Despite calling every 10 minutes from 4:15 pm on to get information, they never answered. The website had instructions for after hours drop off, and since we had a reservation for another day (just wanted to not deal with driving and parking in the city), we weren’t in a rush. Upon arriving, a locked gate blocked the entrance, forcing us to return to the hotel and pay to park overnight. The next morning when we did drop off the car, staff was friendly enough but threw up their hands saying there was nothing they could do and that we were mistaken about after hours drop off. This created a very frustrating experience of about two extra hours driving around Dublin Center City figuring out what to do with our car that could have easily been avoided.

DISGRACEFUL.
DISGRACEFUL.
I have been reaching out to the customer service team for over a month, with absolutely no conclusion. After 3 weeks of chasing and no response, a member of the team reviewed the case and came back with a reply, I’ve emailed back twice and called multiple times with no reply to this. I’ve reached out to the head of customer services again with no response, sticking heads in the sand is no way to deal with a customer. Will never be using this service again.

Forced insurance, doubling the total price
When we arrived we were forced to take their 28 € per day insurance. More than doubling the total cost of the car. They refused to use my debit card for the insurance. This review is for both Hertz Ireland and Thrifty. As they both operate under Hertz. Won't ever use their services again and I will actively discourage any friends of family from using this Company. Ireland itself was lovely though.

Don’t use Hertz as they are not trustworthy.
We rented a car in Dublin airport. The next day it rained a lot and when we had parked and wanted to leave it gave warnings that a lot of the electronically regulated functions didn’t work anymore. We called the agency and they said we didn’t need to worry. Within three days after, the gear broke down as we were approaching a roundabout. We had to be towed to an Hertz agency in Belfast and they told us that we had to sign for causing it to break. We refused. It is outrageous that you are send on the road with a car that is breaking down already from the beginning. We were not to blame as we always drive geared cars. Until now we haven’t heard anything yet of how this issue is solved and they kept the bail. We left the 27th of July. It happened on the 17th of July, almost two month ago! Be warned! Don’t use Hertz as they are not trustworthy and make use of you as a customer to do repair work on their cars. We will never, ever use Hertz again!

Dublin airport hertz counter staff
Dublin airport hertz counter staff. Rude staff who couldn’t care less about a customer. The manger was as bad. The level of, couldn't care less was so high I was shocked. Well trained staff can make a customer feel better even if there issue isn’t solved. I would question if these 2 staff had any customer care training. The 1 star was for another member of staff in the carpark who came over and asked If we wanted any help with the car with an honest smile on his friendly face. The other 2 could learn a lesson.
