just opened account....painful

just opened account....painful
just opened account. Awful automated service and CS isnt much better. No overdraft facility despite great credit rating. No cheque books unless you visit branch, which defeats object of online banking...not to mention nearest bank is in other towns.....never got a pin card for debit card till 6 weeks after contact 3x then 2 come along at once...one minute I was also able to view my barclaycard account balance through the bank account next its gone (Barclaycard are a world apart from the current account clown service)

I am this far ----- from closing account and telling them to shove it..if I havent got an overdraft within the next month I will close it anyway.
Everything is an ordeal.

Unforgiving and Brutal

Unforgiving and Brutal - Folks, this bank denied me a credit card, and I was on their blacklist for over 13 years for a very small write-off. There are so many better credit cards to put in your wallet. They closed one of my wife's accounts for being dormant and lowered her credit line on another. We both have scores in the mid-700s. Calling them and asking what we have to do for an act of contrition, they were cold, dismissive, and acted as if we were bothering them. Before you open any of their accounts, whether it be their Rewards Card, JetBlue, RCI, or any of the many, just beware they are unforgiving. God forbid you run into any problem of any kind, they will somehow punish you. There are many good banks around. Barclays is NOT one of them.

I used the webchat today to ask a…

I used the webchat today to ask a simple, standard question re a transfer of money to be made through a local branch rather than through the Barclay Online Banking services.

It took SIX agents to understand and respond properly! This is deeply disconcerting and alarming - employees of a bank are supposed to understand a customer's request, otherwise a critical error could be made.

I do wonder where they get some of their bank staff and call handlers from, to be honest.

Time to bring the Call Handling and Customer Services jobs back to the UK from abroad, I think.

UPDATE* 08.08.23:

After finally being able to understand a simple request to close all but one, necessary account, I have managed to get what I needed done. This took a few days and the involvement of no less than three agents. The web chat is appalling and the telephone service is another challenge altogether, and not a welcoming one at that!

I have managed to switch to another bank which is based in the UK together with its' customer service staff. And this new bank's staff can resolve an issue within 2 hours (rather than a few days), are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and can understand the customer's requirements without having to ask for the instructions to be reiterated. In short, they work together and actually communicate. Barclays could take a leaf out of their book. Barclays know who that bank is.

Barclays let down customers very badly !

My wife and I have been Premium Account Customers for a very long time. Living in a rural setting in Carmarthenshire, nearest branch is in Carmarthen, a return journey of 34 miles. It used to provide an excellent service pre pandemic. Not anymore! It’s staffed by 2-3 young females in the foyer who appear to have just left secondary schools. Forget about any important, personal transaction unless you have an appointment which can be up 2 weeks! Imagine the frustration especially to OAPs like ourselves! I had a Barclays mobile App on my iPhone which I was comfortable with, able to navigate my way around for all my needs etc. After upgrading to iPhone 14 Pro Max, I managed to transfer all my Apps, data, family photos etc except the all important Barclays App! I have spoken with several Customer Service Advisors over the past fortnight, being given different information, some quite misleading to say the least. The need to get a Pin Sentry Card Reader, Telephone Banking etc were always mentioned despite my informing them repeatedly I never had Telephone Banking and that I didn’t want it, only reason being difficulty in remembering different passcodes!
It wasn’t simple! Then, I was promised a passcode in the post which I received today (13th July). Spoke with member a staff member called Susan who managed to cut me off accidentally halfway through the protracted conversation, didn’t have the common sense to ring me back although she had my contact numbers! Then, another very patient female staff who had an Irish accent but, corrected me politely saying she was from Cossova (if I remember correctly?). She tried her level best but, still couldn’t succeed. Finally, I requested her to make an official complaint on my behalf, noting all the issues on the system and acceded to my request to get her Manager to ring me tomorrow between 10.00 and 1.00pm. There appears to be some serious training issues with left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing! Barclays used to be one of the best but, it is nowhere near the top insofar as customer services are concerned! If any, heading towards the bottom of the pile !
