Cold calling in a pandemic?

Cold calling on a Tuesday evening, when I’ve just come home from work and shattered. Pushy salesman. Not wearing a mask. Thrusted his phone into my hand for me to talk to some Irish woman, asking me questions about my boiler and trying to arrange a time to do some sort of survey and/or appointment. Not happy, leave me alone. Hope I don’t have Covid from touching his phone.

Deceptive, overpriced

Someone from HES knocked on my door and led me to believe they were part of a government scheme to help people get more efficient boilers for no more than what I was already paying per month for energy bills, and they would send someone by to assess my boiler for no obligation. I thought that sounded harmless and as a new homeowner I didn't know how old or efficient the boiler was, so I agreed.

A guy arrived the next day who seemed friendly, but then he made a completely unneccesary remark about Asians being untrustworthy (not knowing that the other parent of my child is Asian). I was stunned but he just kept overtalking me for 2 hours. It turned out that by his own calculations, I would barely be making any energy savings at all and actually be paying significantly MORE every month to get a new boiler. I said I needed time to think about it and he immediately got arsey and said I had to decide right then and there if I wanted a discount, and he wasn't allowed to leave me any materials to read or to email me the same information he'd been showing me.

As this was clearly not an independent assessment for the government and a hard sales pitch instead, I then got quotes from 3 different boiler companies, all of whom told me that I in no way needed a new boiler and that he was quoting me well over 2x what that exact same boiler installation and 10-year callout/repair plan should cost and it was obviously a huge scam.

Don't waste your time or money with these liars!

Suspicious policies - anticipated hard sell

Cold called, but potentially interested in new boiler. They followed up by phone to arrange survey, but refused to complete survey unless both my wife and I were present for the survey - even after my wife had spoken to them and clarified that she was not interested in staying in to discuss boilers on her day off work. It's apparently "company policy" that they cannot schedule a survey unless both spouses are present, even though both my wife and I confirmed to them over the phone that we would discuss and decide upon how we would proceed once the survey had been completed and we had a quote. Sounds like it could be a scam or high pressure sales tactics would be employed. Would advise checking prices independently before engaging with this company based on experience and other reviews.

Cold caller, pushy salesman

Partner was door stepped by a rep when I was in work and felt her only way out of it was to arrange a survey, making sure that I was at home. The survey was arranged for the following day at 2pm and the salesman appeared at 10:00am and was told to return at 2, on turning up I sat in the living room and my partner took them (he was now joined by a trainee) into the kitchen to see the combi, they started their patter and I walked into the kitchen and was introduced as the partner, an electrical engineer (30yrs industrial experience). Their faces dropped as I said they'd be dealing with me. He went through all the sales pitch, not once mention anything about the flow rate or BTU calculations for our property, didn't have any information on the boiler they were trying to sell me, gave me the "you need to change your boiler" scare tactics, pointed his infra-red heat gun at the rad and said there was a 10% drop from top to bottom, (which to me is not bad for a system that's been dormant for 6 months and hasn't been bled by myself yet!!).. Put some figures into his phone and came up with a very similar sounding £54+change for 120 months others have mentioned on here. I said I didn't need to change the boiler as the only thing against it was its age and as this was sprung on me, I'd like to take the opportunity now I have their quote, to look elsewhere for a price comparison as I wasn't signing up to the first cold caller to hit the doorstep. I was told that we could get the ball rolling and that we could cancel if we found it cheaper elsewhere or they'd also price match. Funnily enough the visit ended quickly after I refused to sign up straight away. And on a side note, a 10 minute search after they left found several companies quoting under £2000 for something they wanted £6.6k (£4.6k one payment) including their miracle magnetic cleanse he kept saying that they were the only ones who did it.

Not very professional

Very pushy when asking for information when cold calling. If someone says "sorry I am busy" "I'm not interested" that means please leave me alone. To have 2 men going up and down the street shouting at each other like children and then knocking doors trying to get peoples information it doesn't look good for you or the company. If I wanted or needed a new boiler I'd contact someone better.

Terrible company

Terrible company. They've doorstepped me twice in the past. Always only in the area for a few days so in need of answers today(!), but here they are back again. This time I heard them shouting to each other as they came down the street about some extracurricular activities, which required one of them to refuse to talk to the police, so ignored them when they knocked. But, from my office I could hear them talking to the neighbours about their current energy supplier (e.on next) to which the sales team responded, "never heard of them", "they moved you from NPower without telling you?" "That's terrible, I'm certain we can save you money on your bills".

What sort of training do you send these people out with that they've never heard of e.on or NPower and have any no understanding of the energy market?

AVOID

Dishonest, careless company who's trying to sell you lies, treats you as you're an idiot, never does what its promised.
Few days ago a guy knocked to my door telling that I might quality for a new boiler, reduced price. I responded that I'm not in receipt of any benefits. He told me that they're a private company and no need to be on benefits and if I don't qualify I'll receive £100 voucher for wasting my time. No more information, he told me a boiler survey is required to be carried out and he arranged a phone call from his head office, which I received right away. They organised the survey next day, I wanted to ask more questions how that actually works and they told me it will be explained on the day of the survey. Ok, right, seems a bit dodgy but I gave it a go.
The next day, the man who came wasn't in any way an engineer but much more like a salesman in suit and tie. I told him my boiler is 9 years old(as the label on the boiler says production year 2012), it works fine but I'll want to change it in near future. He tired to lie to me and scare me that my boiler is 15-20 years old, that it will keep braking especially in the winter when heating is on, that insurance companies won't cover it etc. He told me that I won't be saving much with new boiler, maybe £20 a month but I REALLY need a new boiler and they do it for £55 / month for 10 years and pushing me to get it done in 2 days time. I rejected by telling him that I need time to think as the offer is too expensive. £55 x 120 months is £6600 which is triple amount I'd spend elsewhere!! So its not in any sort savings! I tried to call customer service and claim my voucher but they told me that I WILL NOT because I didn't accept their offer. The customer service is very poor, they overtalk you, try to lie at their best. Pretty much they offer you a voucher if you don't qualify knowing that there is no ELIGIBILITY criteria and they will want to sell you anything, playing on people's stupidity. They wasted my time, and now I can't get even what they have promised.
Shamble! Such a disgusting company!

Came to my door today

Came to my door today. Ruff day at work so I told him no thank you but he kept saying it will only take a few minutes said no thank.

He carried on told him I had to let my husband past to go on night duty. He stepped to one side then tried to ask my husband the same.
My husband politely said sorry fella I’m going to work. But thanks for the offer. He then turned as my husband got in his car and snapped “this is not the offer”
Sorry but talk to my husband like that your not getting my details.

Cold calling at your door during pandemic

They should stop being a vector for Covid-19, door-to-door sales is not an essential service.

Moreover, it's got scam written all over it, check out the fake reviews on Trustpilot - I'm sure all those people in India really enjoyed their new boilers...

Really Happy!!!!

I have just had my new boiler installed as a result of HES knocking my door. I wouldn’t usually have accepted someone knocking my door but they were fantastic to deal with to be honest. I noticed some bad reviews on here about them but I can’t speak highly enough of my experience. They done exactly what they said they were going to do for me by setting up a survey with one of their preferred installers who came and had a look at what I had and showed me the options on getting a new boiler. I’m really happy with my new system as it’s such a difference to the heat of my old one and also my showers is tops now. Thanks again HES

A little bit tricky to deal with....

Charles the initial canvasser was very polite and said I would receive a £100 voucher if HES couldn't show me a saving on my energy spend, so I agreed to seeing the HES Sales Rep. The meeting was set up and the Zanussi Sales Rep arrived two hours early. He came back after 90 mins. I gave him details of my 8 year old condensing boiler and the gas/electricity tariff and monthly direct debit cost. He didn't attempt to provide a quote, just said "Head office will call"

"Head Office" did call immediately and asked me how I got on? I told Jane/Jan about the brief visit and the fact that no quote was left. I asked for details of my £100 voucher. She claimed I wasn't eligible as their Rep had not left a quote!

HES Is not a very trustworthy company. Now reported to the ASA.

Avoid.

EDITED AND UPDATED 20/05/2021

After having reported HES to the Advertising Standards Authority, the ASA made some enquiries and HES had no record of my ever having contacted them. I disclosed my call/text history to the ASA and they shared these with HES.

Today a received a £100 gift card from HES.

I have voluntarily updated this review from 1 star to 3 stars and would like to thank the ASA for getting involved and HES for honouring their advertised promise.

Slightly unclear but not pushy

Slightly unclear but not pushy. Had a very nervous cold caller turn up this morning. She gave the impression that the company was offering government grants for replacing boilers. Gave my details and someone called me immediately. I asked a few questions, clarified that they don't work with the government and don't offer grants, so I declined and they removed my details, no questions asked.

A little misleading but generally not a poor experience.

Unmasked door knocking rude man.

You should not be going door to door with no masks on during a pandemic. I answered the door thinking it was a delivery I was expecting and to my disappointment, there was just a bloke standing in front of me with a shabby clipboard and no mask on.

He was pretty rude when I told him I wasn't interested in hearing his sales bull**** and flapped his hands around.

I will never buy anything or use the service from anyone who comes and knocks on my door, especially during a pandemic. Maybe you should use your budget elsewhere and create some online advertising instead of paying people to knock on my door.

Mid pandemic cold canvassing? Nice!

Mid pandemic, imagine the scene.. The doorbell rings and I rush to the door... all excited that it's my Thrustmaster 5000 being delivered by courier ready to buzz off for the remainder of the pandemic. Now you're imagining this, imagine the disappointed look on my face when the person standing on the road at the end of my property is a chap called Callum from HES, who armed with his shabby and old looking paper mask and very official looking clipboard informs me he's here because in the middle of the pandemic, my property is "on a list" to see if I qualify for some kind of blah blah to make me more energy efficient. I now realise that blah blah is a new boiler with some kind of grant funding, so if I were a guessing person, I'd assume they're selling mediocre boilers and charging the grant company Worcester Bosch type prices.

Point 1.. No cold calls please - I'm never going to transact with someone on my doorstep.
Point 2.. IT'S A PANDEMIC STILL! Do you really think going door to door is a bright idea?
Point 3.. When I ask if the conversation will result in me taking a product or service, don't answer with the spin you've been taught to deliver in cold calling school. It doesn't work with most people.

HES really helped me out of my…

HES really helped my mother out of her predicament. Her boiler was broken and she only had semi hot water flowing very slowly. The door canvasser who was very nice I must say explained that the possibility of having a new boiler was really good because of the age of my old boiler. He set me up with a surveyor from The Central Heating Team who surveyed my house and done the rest. She had her new boiler installed on Saturday and She can’t be happier. Second experience and great again Thank you

Very disappointed and would not recommend. Salesman attended home address with regards to an energy survey with the potential to save money on energy bill. Arrangement made for 2 days later. Cancelled plans to have the survey but no one actually turned up. Company clearly ran by cowboys picking and choosing their custom. Don’t waste your time. Much better off dealing with a reputable company with good customer service. 0/10 from me.
