Squalid - Homestay do not carry out any inspections / checks on accomodation
I had a very bad stay in a house that can only be described as squalid and not at all like the pictures on the website.
The owner was only at home to take my money and I did not see them again during my one night stay.
I reported the issue to Homestay on my return and sent them photos as proof.
They returned my deposit but said they could do nothing else except delete the accommodation from the website. This they did.
To my surprise I found the accommodation reinstated a few months later - I reported this and they said the owner had used a different email and phone number and so they had not spotted this was a black listed house. They deleted it again.
Guess what it is back being advertised!

where in Paris??
Website was easy to navigate and to clarify broad location in Paris. There were just a couple of little aspects of uncertainty about the property, which were cleared up promptly and helpfully by the host through the Homestay system. I would definitely recommend to others - and have already.

Book early for Auckland NZ
After some confusion whilst trying to book for the first time with Homestay.com, I found the site easy to negotiate. The fact that I have been going to New Zealand most years since 2005 helped me find out exactly where the places I wanted to book were. In fact I recognised a couple of the houses. Not always a good thing? Quicker response than some other sites. All in all good, and I already know how to get from where I am staying to my family's home. You just need more homes on the site as Auckland in certain months is almost impossible to find anywhere to stay unless you book months ahead.

It's illegal to take my money Home stay. Then a few minutes later the alleged home owner cancels me off with no reason. I think you are a scam and will be reporting this Monday to the police. Unhappy Julia Bethune

Sorry to see that the host cancelled the booking that you made with her. We are the booking platform provider and do discourage our hosts from cancelling. The host themselves are responsible for honouring the booking and also to provide the agreed services. In your case, the host invited you to book with her, but as you did not book immediately she found another opportunity in the meantime to rent the room on a different platform. For this reason she has immediately cancelled your booking, and our Customer Service has already processed the refund of the service fee paid.
I hope that this experience will not discourage you from using our platform in the future.
