imac repair excellent

I am really pleased to have my imac up and running after a replacement psu. Honeylight (Garret Lane) were polite, speedy and charged a fair price.

I am really surprised to see other comments here where things seem to have gone wrong.

I have used Honeylight for about 20…

I have used Honeylight for about 20 years, Wandsworth and Pimlico and have been very happy with their work.
Not money grubbing - have often advised me to check some aspect of the computer to try to fix it before bringing it in.

Poor experience and ‘suspect’ hard drive installed AVOID

Took one of our iMacs to the Wandsworth store and asked them to investigate and try to recover the data from the broken hard drive which was crashing before completing start up. Honeylight appeared unable to repair or recover any data from the hard drive and instead suggested replacing the hard drive with what they said was a new 4TB SSD.

After picking up the imac, when turned on it still crashed. Returned it to Honeylight Wandsworth again. After a few days Honeylight assured us it was fixed so we arranged to collect it again (surprising no offer was made to to return it to us at their cost at this point)..

On receipt we forwarded the iMac (and the removed original drive) straight on to a different Mac expert we know.

This supplier managed a 100% recovery of the original broken (removed) drive - and then discovered that the SSD sold to us and put in the iMac by Honeylight was still failing to mount. After about 8 attempts it came to life just long enough to run a health check which warned the new SSD Honeylight installed had serious issues and was failing.

The Honeylight SSD did not show up as having SMART reporting which is a big red flag. The name shown in disk utility was weird (it should have been a part code such as SAMSUNG 870 EVO or KINGSTONA400) and when asked for detail on the drive they installed, Honeylight would not clarify further which made us feel they knew the drive would not bear scrutiny.

On taking the iMac apart at this point we discovered the model numbers on the Honeylight SSD appeared to show it was a 250GB SSD not the 4TB SSD promised. Our expert felt it was possible it had been tampered with to make a 250gb drive masquerade as a 4TB drive. We didn't dismantle the suspect hard drive further to investigate as just wanted our money back from Honeylight at this point so the drive was removed and sent back to Honeylight Wandsworth.

Honeylight did refund us for the hard drive on receipt (thanks to Harry who took charge of our complaint so credit to him!) but all in this was a frustrating experience.

We lost 4 weeks trying to sort this mess out and were left out of pocket for three £40 couriers (plus a two hour round trip for the first drop off) regardless of the refunded work invoice. Finding out that the hard drive they installed might not be what we were promised and sold was infuriating.

An explanation for the suspect hard drive and reimbursement from Honeylight for the £120 of couriers back and forth would have seemed honourable to us but Honeylight refused to reimburse us that cost.

At the end of all this we had to have another company completely re-do everything Honeylight touched.. so sadly while Harry was very helpful for his part - we were left annoyed by the Honeylight Management’s attitude and would not trust Honeylight Computers with our apple equipment again. We lost time and money using them.

'If’ they knowingly installed a suspect hard drive - that is just fraudulent and inexcusable. Maybe there is a reasonable explanation for the suspect drive (we have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt) but Honeylight did not supply one.

Absolutely appalling service

Absolutely appalling service! I have no idea why Apple uses them as a service provider. Use them at your own risk. I gave my iPhone for a battery replacement service, and although the battery was replaced as expected, I noticed yellowing on the bottom left and right corner of my screen following the repair. I only noticed this a couple hours after collecting my phone, after changing my settings from dark mode to light mode (it was not visible under dark mode). I am always careful with my phone, and have looked after it with great care for 3 years, with absolutely zero damage prior to the repair.

I called them the next day after the service to explain the problem. The person on the phone was very rude and asked me to bring it back to them so that he can prove that the yellowing was not caused by them. Given that he had seemingly already made up his mind about them not being liable even before taking another look at the phone, I contacted Apple, who asked me to visit the store nonetheless as a first course of action.

I then visited the store, and after allegedly looking at the phone again for a very short period of time, they mentioned that they cannot “at the moment” accept liability and that I need to contact Apple as there’s nothing more that they can do. They even went as low as saying that at a certain point over the last month, that I had apparently made some sort of inquiry about a cracked screen on my Apple account. I have absolutely never spoken to anyone at Apple about any cracked screen for my iphone as the screen had never been cracked or damaged in the slightest until the battery replacement. The only things I have done on the Apple website/app is for my own curiosity, to find out how much it would cost to replace the front or back glass if for example I bought a brand new iPhone model (as I know how expensive they can get). It is in no way related to anything to do with my current iPhone. The use of my personal data like this against me for their own advantage was shocking to say the least.

Apple subsequently mentioned that the store refused to accept liability, and they mentioned to Apple that my phone case was likely to be too tight, and that this was probably what caused the yellowing. This was beyond ridiculous given that I use an original Apple case on my phone and I had absolutely no issue or damage prior to the repair.

In the days leading up to Apple calling me back, I noticed that the yellowing since the repair had slowly started to disappear. It took my research online to figure out that the yellowing was almost certainly caused by the glue they had applied to clamp the screen down not drying at the point at which the phone was handed over, with the yellowing disappearing as the glue dried out over the course of the week. Rather than the repair centre saying that this was the likely issue, they simply decided to take the route of completely having nothing to do with it and passing on the blame entirely onto me, coming up with a variety of excuses in the process. Apple to their credit acknowledged the negative experience that I had and have subsequently dealt with the matter well.

Great service from Honeylight Wandsworth - thank you!

This is the second time I've visited Honeylight, I had an issue with my Macbook Pro 2014 the screen was black despite the laptop being on (the apple logo would still light up and you could also hear the startup tune when turned on). I took it into Honeylight Wandsworth and they were able to resolve the problem within minutes at no charge. The representative who served me was very friendly and efficient. I was happy with the level of service received, even better than the customer service I've received at multiple official Apple stores. Thank you Honeylight Computers Wandsworth!

Very negative attitude from staff

Very negative attitude from staff at Honeylight Computers 741-743 Garratt Ln Wandsworth yesterday, they are recommended as an authorised repair service by Apple but when I took a laptop in they didn't really want to help and told me to take it back to Apple. I wasted over a week waiting for this appointment when I should have just taken it to Apple directly. What's the point of this company?
