Rafting trip was great, dinner on the river was awful

Our rafting guide was awesome! He was very pleasant, professional and he made our rafting experience wonderful! The trip went south when we got to the riverside dining experience. We waited 2.5 hours for LOUSY food. If I had known it was going to go like it did, we would have eaten at the closest convenience store and been better off. After waiting forever, we were told they ran out of chicken for our tacos and without asking, gave us beef tacos instead. “For our inconvenience, they added extra beef,” wrong! I had to search my tacos to even find the 3 small strips of meat. The waitress brought us free drinks and a lame excuse that they were short staffed that night. We could see the “kitchen” from where we were sitting and half the time while we were waiting there was no one in it (must be why we waited for so long). When the “cook” finally brought our food and gave it to my husband. He told him, “Sorry about that, I was out in the weeds for a half hour”, what?? We were on vacation and staying in Colorado Springs so after we waited forever and received lousy food, we had a long drive in the dark on roads we didn’t know, in the rain and still hungry. It made for a very late night for our kids and very stressful drive back to Colorado Springs for us. The rafting trip was great, the dinner experience you partner with was awful.

Hi Toby,

Thanks for taking the time to make us aware of our partner's food service issue. As you know we provide a voucher for your meal with The Riverside Grill and they are responsible for food service following the rafting portion of our dinner float trip. We count on them to provide great service and they clearly failed you. I have notified the Operations Manager and Owner of your experience and will follow up with the expectation that this never happens again. I will be monitoring our relationship with the expectation that our customers receive excellent service in the future. Thanks again.

Fun rafting, great guide!

Though it was late in the season, we had a really fun time with a few fun challenging drops and quick navigation. Our guide Scully was great - informative and fun.

We used Wilderness Aware Rafting for a multiday trip. The experience was amazing right from the start. When looking for something available for a specific time it was extremely difficult until i stumbled onto Wilderness. The website was easy to view and i was able to text customer service right from the website. She was extremely helpful and within an hour I had a quote in my email. Since we flew in I was relieved to here that they has all necessary equipment available. My family had a great time and made memories that we will cherish forever. We had an excellent captain and they made it very enjoyable.

Great experience!

Great experience. Our family has rafted many times over the years, but Wilderness Aware provided the most organized experience we’ve ever had. From the booking, to the actual facility to the competence of the guides - highly recommend!

We had such a great time

We had such a great time! The staff took time to go over safety rules beforehand, helped us park our cars at our ending site, answered any questions, etc. Our guide made the trip so fun. He was personal and interesting. Really enjoyed our first river trip. We did the one that had calm rapids and ended with eating a delicious dinner by the river. There was an open area of sand where the kids had a ball throwing a football and dancing. I would recommend bringing a sweatshirt. It began to drizzle and the temperature dropped. Sweatshirts felt great.

The overall experience was not good

The overall experience was not good. The raft toppled, two of us fell on the river, hit the rock and got injured. Even rescue was far from satisfactory. The training for the guide needs improvement.

Hello Nagarajan,

I looked up our report that we do on every incident that involves a guest falling out of the boat. Lindsey was your guide. She has been one of our top rated guides for the past 3 years, always getting rave reviews. The water had recently dropped and more rocks had began to appear, resulting in all of the rafts on the river very likely hitting more of these new rocks. That is to be expected during extremely low flow periods like we are having during this drought. It appears when she called the "highside" command which she is trained to do, folks on the left side of the boat knocked you out of the boat. I am sorry this happened. At the time you reported no injury, so I assume you must have bumped a rock and found a bruise later. Again I apologize, but this is whitewater rafting and incidents do happen. The orientation at the beginning of the trip explains that this may happen and I am glad you were quickly pulled from the calm pool at the bottom of the rapid. Hoping all is better now.

100 percent I would recommend this…

100 percent I would recommend this place over and over. I cannot say enough good things about the company. My mom and I used it and when I got sick unexpectedly - the staff went above and beyond all expectations just to help me even at the inconvenience they had to suffer for me canceling literally the last second (foot in the raft and foot out). Not only that but my mom had an outstanding time - loved the guide, loved the trip and just loved everything about it. She had a blast and this is definitely my number one place for anyone who might want to go rafting not only for the experience but for the outstanding staff they have!

Outstanding experience. Guides are experienced, safety conscious, and all-around great people. Safety always comes first and you’ll always feel you’re in great hands. Bret Reimer is fantastic. Wouldn’t use anyone else.
