Sent me an email titled "Good News" to disguise a downgrade

Booked and paid in full ($3,726.55) for a "Comfort Standard" campervan months in advance (Booking 8KVVGJ, Anchorage pickup). Six days before pickup, Indie Campers emailed me with the subject line "Good News about your Campervan Booking" - the "good news" was that they had unilaterally swapped my confirmed vehicle for a smaller, less capable one, dressed up as an upgrade. It was a downgrade, and they knew it was a downgrade; the cheerful subject line was simply deceptive. My account then showed a third, different vehicle, and a "paid amount" of $7,677.30 that never actually left my card. When I asked for a refund, I got 16-hour response times, an agent who signed a message with a different name than the one on the transcript, and two different reps who gave me contradictory reasons for the change (one said the engine blew up, the other said the van was totaled) - both promising callbacks that never came. When I finally got someone to "escalate," I was told a manager was unavailable and offered a 5% refund under their basic cancellation policy, despite this being their breach, not a voluntary cancellation. I had to book a replacement RV elsewhere for nearly $1,200 more. Still unresolved as of this review. Read every email from this company as if it says the opposite of what it claims.

The camping car was all rigth and in good shape, easy to drive and very good for a road trip in Vosges.

Promised a refund, then refused to honour it

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Indie Campers.

During my rental, I suffered a flat tyre. I was initially told by depot staff that the cost would be covered under my Protection Plan, and I was given documentation confirming this. After contacting customer support, I then received written confirmation that my refund had been approved and would be processed within 10–15 business days.

After waiting, I was informed that no refund would be issued after all. Indie Campers admitted that their staff had misunderstood their own Terms & Conditions, that the reimbursement had been approved in error, and that I had been incorrectly told the refund would be processed. Despite acknowledging these mistakes and the confusion they caused, they refused to honour the written refund confirmation, stating that their internal policy did not allow it.

It’s incredibly frustrating to be told a refund has been approved, wait for payment, and then have the company simply change its mind because of its own internal errors. Good customer service means taking responsibility for mistakes, not expecting customers to bear the cost.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Indie Campers based on this experience.

Zero stars

Zero stars. This company are liars and frauds. We suffered a flat tyre which they stated was covered by the premium insurance we had. They told us on the day and again in writing that they would refund the whole deposit. They have been telling us for months the money would be refunded but now they have told us they changed their mind and we won’t be getting our money back. They told us their staff misunderstood the issue. The toilet was broken and the bedding was too small. The van was dirty. But the lies about the deposit and changing their mind is unforgivable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
