For sure, the best shoes for mud and off trail running.

I bought these for their mud capability and grip which is pretty good to be fair. But they are let down by the fact the slightest bit of water / puddle and your feet are soaked. Unlike my Nikes which handle it much better. The ride is also flat and lifeless making them feel cheap. Shame as the service delivery from Innov8 was exceptional.
I have extended experience with the two generations of X Talon Ultra, and find the new stud pattern and depth on these are staves above. Superior grip over wet ground, and very comfortable. The stack height is just right for someone looking to run mixed rough terrain over medium to long distances, and I still find them fast over shorter distances if needed. As a wide size 14, I very much appreciate the larger sizes Inov8 are now manufacturing and hope they continue to make size 14, and maybe stretch to size 15 going forwards. Although I'd love to buy a pair of racier mud talons, they are far to narrow to even be able to contemplate fitting into them, unfortunately. Inov8 are currently the only manufacturer making fell/trail shoes I'm able to wear. Though pricey, the MudTalon Speed is a very capable shoe.

This are very nice shoes, light weight, great traction and breathable. But I either got an undersized pair or there sizing chart is off. I wear 9.5 in every other shoe I have and there sizing chart said 9.5 is what I need. I didn't expect to need to return them and didn't open them until the 30 day return window was closed. I wore them inside for an hour to test them and they were fine but the first time I wore them on the range for a day they were extremely uncomfortable. If you buy these wear them for several hours as soon as you get them so you can return them if you have the same experience as me. I believe since they are a plastic type material they are not able to (break in) like other shoes.

Excellent feel on the foot, fantastic grip thru the mud - first wear no slips along the way over very muddy cross country course unlike earlier in year over same fields & just trail shoes. Hosed down in cold water after & they came up like new 😊 Very happy with product

This is my last pair of Inov8s unless Inov8 find returns to offering shoes fell running and off trail shoes with a ultra low stack height. I have been ripping up the mountains in Inov8s for over ten years and I am sad they lost their way. Low stack height is critical for traversing steep side hills. High stack height shoes will roll underneath your foot on steep side hills so you end up essentially walking off the side of the shoe. The insoles of these shoes are like 8 to 10mm thick, and the padding below that is also too thick. Inov8 has been making there high traction shoes with more and more stack height each year and they now suck. The 2016 Inov8 x-talon 225 had the proper stack height for fell running and aggressive off trail hiking Inov8 doesn’t offer anything like that now. Within 1 mile of an aggressive off trail hike in these new Mud Talon I regretted my purchase. The shoes were rolling out from under my feet on every side hill. I removed the super thick insoles, and that helped a lot but that made the fit too big. The wide tread / sole width underneath the heal compounds the shoe rolling underneath your foot problem while side hilling. Wide tread / sole width is fine for flat ground but for fell running and aggressive off trail hiking, the tread/ sole width underneath the heal should be just barely wider than your heal. This shoe work fine for flat ground and established trails but that’s not a fell running shoe.

Finally a worthy successor to the original 212's! I've been an inov8 fan for years now and after my original 212's i couldn't get along with newer models - either the fit was off, or quality, or grip, or something else. (i tried multiple different models). I had similar shoes from other brands (like Hoka Evo Jawz - also discontinued btw) but something was always missing... Apparently people don't run in muddy conditions anymore nowadays? In any case - for all of us that enjoy autumn and winter runs on changing terrain and conditions - we're finally saved! The MudTalon's delivers in all regards - the grip is without any doubt best I've ever experienced in challenging conditions, the fit is almost perfect (wouldn't mind the heel being a bit more snug, but the toes have plenty of room without feeling too loose), can't talk much about durability but it definitely looks and feels well made. They seem like great value for money in today's market so in general I'm really happy.

Great grip but unfortunately rubs on the heels not sure how to solve

This shoe has exceeded my expectations. The shoe feels very comfortable on harder ground and very stable and grippy on softer ground. It holds my foot very well and overall I find myself wanting to go running more and more.

Perfect all round!

A natural extension of the foot providing great grip on all terrain. And super light!

Great for orienteering running in muddy Danish forests. The precision fit is quite small; I bought a size larger than normal and then they fit my narrow feet.

Pleasantly surprised! I have always been a fan of the lighter shoes in the range, think X-talon G210 and G235s which were my favourites. I was a little worried when I realised they had merged the old mudtalon and X-talon range to create these shows. I was concerned that they would be more like X-talon 260s which I found were a bit too cushioned and bulky for my liking. First of all, they are so much more comfortable out of the box than I was expecting; normally I would have blisters wearing in new inov8s, a price I would pay for the neat fit, but these are somehow very comfortable yet feel neat at the same time. Normally I would be a size 11.5 in Inov8 shoes, but the 11s fit me perfectly. Furthermore, the grip is perfect. I have run with them in a variety of conditions in the Scottish hillside and they have been incredible. The sole and under are not too thick, striking the perfect balance between foot protection yet tactile feel of the trail, somewhere between xtalon 212s and 260s. I think these finally replace G235s as my favourite fell shoes to date.

Great grip!! So far so good. Comfy and no worries about slipping.

I bought these with a view to wearing them for the upcoming Fellsman ultra this month. I'm not a fan of excessively cushioned shoes as I prefer my feet to do the work, so I was a little sceptical of the width of the sole at the heel. Might this impede my foot placement? I was happy to see that Inov8 had listened to the feedback from users of the Trailfly and X-Talon Ultra, evidenced in the design of the new MudTalon Speed; a thicker tongue, a wider fit option. Fantastic! Straight out of the box, they fit like slippers. A 10k cheeky run round an undulating, muddy trail route impressed me. Light and quick to drain with fantastic grip in the slop, and the wider heel issue was a non-issue. I couldn't wait to get back to the Dales for a proper test. Less than half-way through a 16k jaunt up the fells, I had to stop and address a hotspot that was developing on my left heel. The culprit? A very rigid heel cup. I have since ditched the Boomerang footbeds (I had to do this with the Trailflys) hoping that the added depth to the shoe might allow my foot to sit better in it, and that seems to have done the trick. This would be my 'Goldilocks' shoe were it not for the very stiff heel cup. Whether I trust them to see me right over 61 miles or default to the old X-Talon 260 Ultras? I'm still on the fence.
