Say no to Instacart restaurant delivery

Seems recently Instacart began delivering from restaurants. Well, they actually use uber drivers to deliver so the delivery after placing the order is managed by uber, not instacart. This means you can count on the food you order from a restaurant to arrive cold. We placed an order from a restaurant just down the road, less than a mile from us. Instacart offers satellite to watch the driver’s location. We watched him drive to the restaurant fairly quickly, pick up our order quickly but then a new status appeared saying he had another stop to make. So we watched him drive slightly in the opposite direction and proceed to wait at a Pizza place for 25 minutes. We sent messages to the driver with no response. He could have delivered our order and returned to the pizza place with 20 more minutes to spare. When he finally came to our door, he told us his routes are dictated by uber and out of his control, and who knows if that was even true. All about maximizing profit at any inconvenience to the customer. We told the driver we didn’t want it so he took it with him then returned a few minutes later and snuck it onto our porch and ran off. Never order a restaurant delivery through instacart!

Terrible isn't strong enough

We ordered $130 worth of stuff from Sprouts with a specific request to ring the doorbell and hand to us.

Not only did the estimated delivery slip by 45 minutes, the girl didn't ring the doorbell. So, our frozen swordfish, frozen Chilean sea bass, and refrigerated chicken sausage sat out in the Texas heat for almost an hour!

Instacart said they'd give us a refund, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Never again.

Terrible, awful, unreasonable

Terrible. They charged me $23 more on my order than the store. Wouldn't give me my money back and wouldn't accept the stores receipt even after telling me that the store gives them the prices! The worst experience ever and will never use them again. They kept regurgitating the same nonsense every time I brought up a legitimate reason to why they were stealing my money.

Instacart & it's Predatory Practices!

Wow, these reviews say it all. When do you ever see 1.2 on a company. This company essentially stole my money. First time user, to get free shipping, I put in an order at Shoprite and linked my loyalty card. I forgot that I had a credit on my Shoprite Loyalty card for $12, I also had all my coupons loaded on my card. They used my number, took the credit of $12, plus the discount of all my coupons, which saved them $95.00, and they charged me the full rate. The guy put the receipt in the bag, total from Shoprite was $426, Instacart charged me $568, They took the credit off my card, saved $95 and never credited any money to me other than the tip amount that I changed. They included a $40 service charge, which they just had to settle in court: "Instacart agreed to a $60 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in December 2025, resolving allegations of deceptive marketing, hidden fees, and auto-enrolling users into paid subscriptions." This company is still using the predatory practices... They just settled the lawsuit and part of the suit was the service fee after advertising free shipping. They are still charging the $40 service fee! They just did it to me and it is 3/20/26. Some oversight has to step in and stop this company. FTC, something... people getting robbed all over the place.

I needed some last minute grocery items…

I needed some last minute grocery items and ordered through instacart. I paid extra for priority delivery ($4), and the app placed the order. The shopper was kicked out of the store (because it closed) halfway through the order, so I only got a few of my items. The app shouldn't have allowed the order to take place if there wasn't time to shop. I asked customer service for a refund of the $4 since I basically paid extra for nothing. They refused. They agreed they were willing to lose a routine customer over the $4. Worst customer service ever.

The worse customer service

I’ve placed an order through Instacart with Publix store. The product came incredibly bad, worms on chicken breast?! I’ve made pictures and picked the insta credit, submitted everything. No refund, no credit, plus 2 hours of waisted time with their customer support, that just have been there to drag me out of time and energy. Doubling same questions, and eventually disappearing without giving me any resolution.
Thanks a bunch.
Would never recommend this “service” .

STEALING MONEY

I was given gift cards by family members and went to use my gift balance which totaled $909.00 to get myself a laptop and instacart canceled the order, locked my account and had me submit a photo and image of debit card. I wasn't even using my card for the purchase so this was odd to begin with, I was told the review would be completed WITHIN 2 hours. This screen still shows on the app. Days later my account has not been unlocked and instacart is endlessly "escalating" the issue and putting me on hold for days at a time while the app still tells me it will be taken care of WITHIN 2 hours and nothing else is required.

Instacart is GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instacart is composed of utter thieves. The app will shadily add things to your cart that you don’t want. They also trick you into paying extra fees and then don’t provide the service paid for. The shoppers are incredibly dumb and bring expired and clearly rotting product. And customer service just repeats boilerplate bs apologies and does absolutely eff all. Just avoid them at ALL costs.

DO NOT USE. Not trustworthy. Bad customer service.

Rating is not one star buy minus 5 stars. Worst experience ever. Ordered some things from a big box store with same day delivery. I left delivery instructions, leave in the garage. Delivery person claims delivered but my items are nowhere to be found. I don't know if it was delivered to wrong house, wrong address. All I know for sure is, it was not delivered to my address. My house number is clearly visible from both directions on my mailbox on the street. Delivery person needs to take pictures of house from the street, and pictures of items where he left it, as proof of delivery. There is no way of communicating with delivery person. There is a chat box but it is turned off. Customer service is worst. If you call from your contact number they block your number so you can not talk to anyone. Your call is just dropped. You have to call from a different phone to get customer service which is no help. Worst experience ever, for sure. Never again.

Unfair business practises

If I could give INSTACART CANADA A ZERO STAR RATING I WOULD……. Just a day ago I placed a very large food order from Instacart Canada, because the food order was going to be over $1000, I deleted a credit card that had a very small limit on it and I put on a Visa card with a significantly higher credit limit. I did this before I placed the order, I double checked online that the system had taken the second card information, and had deleted the first, all apparently was locked in. Unfortunately, for some reason that nobody at their head office could explain, their system went ahead and debited the deleted credit card with the very small limit anyways. Of course when I was alerted by my credit card company, almost immediately I went online to my credit card service to try to figure out what the problem was and when I looked at the six or seven different various confusing charges from INSTACART CANADA on the wrong credit card, I was plenty peeved….. so I called and waited over 2 hours to speak to one of their elusive call center managers, Of course, NOT IN CANADA, LOL, WHOEVER THESE DAYS, EVER, GETS TO TALK TO SOMEBODY WITHIN THE COUNTRY THEY ACTUALLY LIVE IN, anyhow, back to what transpired, when one goes over their credit card limit, immediately you are charged with significant over limit fees by your banking institutions, AS WELL, YOUR CREDIT SCORE WILL IMMEDIATELY BE AFFECTED NEGATIVELY, IT WILL DROP, GUARANTEED!!!! (just an FYI, for those who are not familiar with how credit is granted or accumulated, I was in the banking industry for almost 40 years. I know what I speak). Well, after speaking to the INSTACART CANADA‘S CUSTOMER SERVICE GURU, I was informed that Instacart Canada will put a hold on your card for the whole ordered amount (a security fee they called it) and then if the total charge is less or more after the shopping is completed, INSTACART CANADA charges you again for the exact amount of your cart. I guess in they’re very small fine print on page 200 of the on line contract that 99.9% of the people that are using Instacart Canada are not aware of, it tells u in legal speech that the double charges will occur and it is not their responsibility and depending on your banking institution, it can take a while for you to get the initial security deposit back , It actually can take anywhere from 7 to 10 business days before the whole security portion is rebated. WHO KNEW, I SURE THE HECK DIDN’T. Sooooo, in essence, you are actually being charged twice for the same order, until that security portion is rebated. in my specific case a $1079.00 hold along with a charge of $989 on the WRONG credit card that I did not authorize AND that I removed from their systems was transacted!!! WHICH PUT ME OVER MY CREDIT LIMIT, which hit my bureau and charges for a few hundred dollars in overage feeS were exacted, NICE….and when I waited for over two hours to talk to a service manager, they basically STATED THAT INSTACART CANADA DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHARGING THE WRONG CARD AND ALL CONSUMERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE FINE PRINT, THAT’S THE WAY THEY ROLL, THAT IS THE WAY THEY CHOOSE TO HANDLE THIS DISPUTE, NO, UNDERSTANDING, NO REBATE FOR THE CHARGES INCURRED, NO COUPON THAT I COULD USE FOR A LATER DATE….. JUST SORRY ABOUT YOUR LUCK , SCREW OFF!!! Horrible, horrible customer service, horrible, horrible way of doing business with Canadian consumers. BEWARE, NOT A GOOD COMPANY, STAY AWAY FROM INSTACART CANADA!!!!! SHAME ON THEM!

Delivered to wrong address more than once

I've been disappointed with this service. They consistently delivery my groceries to the wrong apartment and then tell me they've left where I said. I often don't get photos to verify the delivery or if I do get a photo it's the wrong apartment. My instructions are precise yet drivers often call me and say they cannot locate me. Door Dash doesn't have a problem. The last episode with InstaCart occured 3/16. Ordered,delivered to the wrong address, called customer service and received a refund (will have to wait for it to show up on my CC), Then I had to reorder, wait for another driver who couldn't find me. I talked the directions to her. Then this AM I receive an email from InstaCart that there appears to be a lot of problems delivering to me; they'd investigate and based on their findings, I may be censored from using InstaCard for a set number of weeks, charged higher delivery charges. I responded and told them don't bother; I won't be using them again. I forgot to mention my orders seem to have missed items, double items than I ordered and they don't knock on the door to hand off the groceries to assure they're delivering to the correct address.
