Don’t take the bait! Women CAN be colourblind

The site lures naïve punters in by showing examples from a standard colour vision test and suggesting that people who can see the coloured numbers are much cleverer than most other people. This is obviously a spurious claim because there is no correlation between colour vision and intelligence! Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know the creators of this website are trying to take advantage of human ego and vanity to lure people in. Furthermore, the site asks for your details without stating what they will do with these - making me suspect they may be sold!

To the reviewer who stated women cannot be colourblind (@Elaine Marie Connor) that is incorrect! It is rare (but NOT impossible) for a woman to be colourblind. This is because the most common forms of inherited colour vision deficiency are on the X chromosome. Men have only one X chromosome; therefore, a man only needs one copy of the colourblind gene to be colourblind.
However, women have two X chromosomes. This means that if they inherit a single colourblindness gene from one parent, but a normal colour vision gene from their other parent, the normal colour vision gene is dominant so they will have normal colour vision themselves. In this case, the woman will be a carrier of the condition, which they can pass on to their children (50:50 chance). For a woman to be colourblind, they must inherit the colourblindness gene on both X chromosomes, (i.e. their father is colourblind and their mother is also a carrier of the colourblind gene. This is known as a double-recessive gene and is a much less likely scenario. Hence it is far less common for women to be colourblind.
