Troubles preordering online
EDIT: Ended up asking for a refund, which was granted to me fairly swiftly. It sounds like this may have been an exceptional case due to a recent website migration, so you might have better luck preordering from them in the future.
---
While I've had good experiences ordering from JB Hi-Fi in person, it's been quite the opposite online! When preordering the fancy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth deluxe edition 5 months before release, I was pretty annoyed when they didn't send any shipping info on release date. After waiting 4 days for a response, I finally got a response claiming... I hadn't paid? Despite being charged via Paypal right when I ordered. Never before have I had to go out of my way to prove I paid for a product, and I've clearly wasted my time preordering when I still have nothing 5 days after release—or less than nothing, considering the $180 they've essentially stolen from me.
Will update if the situation is resolved.
Easy to place order
Easy to place order, great product, excellent condition
I don't know much about computers and…
I don't know much about computers and associated software, but you'd think the retail assistant in the computer section would. I told him I had an existing computer. What I didn't know at the time, which he would have, you can transfer all your MS products to the new computer by signing into your account, so you don't need to buy new products. It was all about making a sale, not about doing right by the customer.
I will shop elsewhere.
They sell stock they dont have but dont tell you
I'll give you a rundown on whats happened so far.
Ordered on the 24th of November a month before Xmas: Guts vinyl by Olivia Rodrigo- at this time there is stock in store all round the country and when I paid for it there was nothing to say otherwise.
25th of Nov I receive an email saying delivery will be 26th of December - boxing day (could have bought elsewhere for same price - the price and the fact I was told I would have it was the deciding factors in purchase - traders making false claims gain an unfair advantage over other traders).
DIDN'T ARRIVE on Boxing day- Xmas was ruined for my daughter who is a HUGE Olivia Rodrigo fan.
I then thought it could be for her birthday later in January.
JB sends an email saying its now on back order and dont know when it will get here
8th of Jan - JB sends an email saying the 26th of January for delivery- DIDNT ARRIVE
BIRTHDAY NOW RUINED!!!
MULTIPLE emails and phonecalls later over MONTHS and I still dont know when its coming.
The Fair Trading Act prohibits false and misleading conduct by businesses relating to the availability of goods. After contacting the Consumer.org they said any representation about the availability of stock must be clear, accurate and businesses must be able to back them up. If an item being advertised online was actually out-of-stock, then this should be made clear to the consumer.
And since November when I purchased these goods in good faith the best JB-HiFi can come up with finally is "Apologies for the long wait and thank you for your patience.".
Im about to send a formal complaint to the Commerce commission and Fairgo with the timeline, emails and phonecalls made.
The amount of time and effort I have had to waste on what was a simple transaction is utterly ridiculous.
Its been 70 days waiting so far.
Im sure this has happened to others. If it has I strongly advise you to send a formal complaint to the commerce commission (just do a Google search for commerce commission complaints) to stop JB HiFi who made over 6.37 Billion dollars of revenue in 2023 to stop treating paying customers like total crap!

Really great service and experience I ordered a dvd frm jb hi fi online and it arrived within 2 day's of ordering it super fast shipping and delivery and service cldnt be happier thx heaps jb hi fi!
Horrible Customer Service / Online Experience
ordered a gaming mouse and monitor. Somehow they put both shipping labels on the mouse, meaning when my mouse box arrived at Nzpost, the tracker was telling me both packages were avaliabe for pickup, only for me to discover that both labels were on one box. Tried to reach out to support numerous times, and only got 1 response, pretty much telling me my package was "ready to collect" even though I had jus explained in my email the mixup with the shipping labels. They even completely disregarded the photo I attached proving that they put both labels on the mouse box. Support sucks, service sucks, just stick to Pbtech or Noel Leeming.
(Ordered monitor during the week of Christmas, and haven't received even the slightest update on where it is as of writing)
Don't waste time there
If I could give them a -5 I actually would.
Hamilton are just sh#$ can't do warranty check in store have to send away but won't give u a loan phone. No empathy no nothing and that was there store manager
Don't buy off them online!
Don't buy off them online, don't trust them. Bought headphones and heard nothing after sale so rang a few days later. Got told order was bounced between shops but was being sent out that day.
The web site updated to say order was sent the next day but no tracking number and nothing arrived.
Rang again (the next week) and talked to the call centre and then the shop who couldn't get into the system as glitching so couldn't provide the tracking number.
Finally got the tracking number (after calling the next day) and found that the item had only been sent after the calls the day before. Even the courier label said overnight delivery.
Product did turn up today (by overnight courier) but they lied to us on the website saying it was dispatched (the week prior) and we were lied to by the call centre and the shop staff.
Don't trust them, don't buy off them as things aren't right in this business.
The price was the same as other online shops so just go to one them.
Bought a TV off these clowns but the…
Bought a TV off these clowns but the remote is a smart remote with no numbers on it. My mother who is 84 doesn't know how to use it. Doesn't speak Chinese so can't use voice control. Went to the Riccarton store and told the store manager the problem. He said would give a universal remote. Asked them to programme it for me but they refused and said for me to buy batteries for it as the remote was free. They flatly refused to programme the remote but said would send a technician out yo do it $150 charge . I said I wanted a refund as the remote was not fit for purpose. They laughed at me said the remote was what it is and they already gave a universal remote with Normal numbers on it. Said I'd take them to small claims tribunal and they still laughed. What type of customer service is this ??!!! I said I have bought many items from JB Hi-fi before but the manager said he didn't care. Said I not buy from them again and tell everyone I know not shop there. He said he didn't care.So in frustration I threw the remote on the ground and it slid on the floor and touched the manages shoe. He said I threatened and endangered him !! And he called store security and trespass me from that store.
Everything turned out fine after some hiccups
Edit: eventually their website came back up, I manged to contact them, and everything got sorted. My order was even delivered the next day.
Original review:
No idea what's going on. Spent nearly $2k, supposed to be shipped within 2 business days, supposed to be contacted with date and time for delivery, supposed to arrive within 7 business days. Today is day 4 with no word beyond the initial order confirmation, and now their website is down entirely because they intend to replace it - can't check my order status, can't double check terms and time frames, can't use their contact links...
You done it again
As I mentioned before, out of 3 retailers that this is my Favorite too. Some items can only be bought from NL or from HN or from JB. My favorite stores are either JB-HiFi at New Lynn or the one at Botany Town Centre.
JBHIFI used to be a excellent Company
JBHIFI used to be a excellent Company. Now every thing is on back order with no indication of for how long. Big disappointment to see this as I have dealt with them successfully over the years till now.
JB HiFi needs to communicate better
It would be helpful if JB Hi Fi notified customers if an item ordered is not actually available for despatch. We ordered an item, it showed in stock, and when it hadn't arrived after ten working days, we contacted JB HiFi to find out that it was actually on back order, and wouldn't be available for a couple of months (and maybe not even then). We would not have ordered the item in the first place if we knew it was going to take so long to arrive.
Ordered an iPhone 13
Ordered an iPhone 13, pink yesterday and now I get an email saying they have a back log of orders and have no stock of this phone. Are you serious??? If you have a back log of a product do not say it’s in stock. Not only that but I have to wait 1-2 business days for a response from the team AND 3-5 business days for a refund. Terrible service will not be ordering anything from them again.
Terrible online experience
Terrible online experience. The worst. Had to chase up online team to no avail. They ended up saying they can’t do anything about it. Very poor service. Tried buying online to save time but ended up wasting so much time and effort.
Thanks to JB Hifi Link Drive Wairau. They were very helpful and resolved the issue for me within the day.
Excellent Service And Price.
I ordered my Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling Earbuds II (Triple Black) on 28th December 2022 and they arrived on 30th December 2022. I tracked my order through NZ Post (which are good) and I found that JB Hi-Fi alerted me even before NZ Post did, which is very unusual for merchants. Also the price I got was the best I could find - very satisfactory. This experience is what I'm used to from JB Hi-Fi.
I ordered a DVD from JB HiFi online
I ordered a DVD from JB HiFi online. When it arrived it played badly and gave every sign of being a pirated copy. There was lots and lots of hassle getting a refund, with the staff even sending me details of ANOTHER customer's refund instead of mine. When they refunded the money, they forgot to account for postage. Avoid buying online, and if you buy a DVD in person, ask them to play it for you first.
Bought my laptop charger from them
Bought my laptop charger from them, and I am very happy.
DONT buy video games online from jb hi fi nz (unfortunately)
I do think jb hi fi is a good store but they made an extremely bad error the other day regarding an online order of PS4 games. I ordered 3 PS4 games 2 of the 3 had the plastic wraps and had everything they were meant to come with, the 3rd game didn’t, to my surprise when I opened the 3rd game (a copy of nioh) the box was literally empty, no game, no paper word, nothing, just the box straight off the shelf, now unfortunately I can’t ever trust buying games online from jb ever again. To be fair I don’t know how they would react to this problem considering I wasn’t able to contact their online customer service because options are to limited and under “refunds” you need a receipt number and the online invoice doesn’t appear to have that and it needs a store location and had no option for “online transactions”
for obvious reasons I haven’t attempted to walk into a store with an empty box and tell them this is what they sent because I can bet they would just laugh. be that as it may, what has happened has happened and buying games online from jb can no longer be trusted.
