Somewhere I enjoy going to everyday .The place is spotless,well equipped gym, staff are friendly, would recommend this gym to anybody.

I’ve had no issue with the gym itself but the women’s toilets are mad. Majority of the time there’s no soap (esp when hitting peak hours later in the day) which is filthy in a gym, like 2 of the doors... See more

The gym is clean and well stocked with equipment it has everything I need for a work out .
The only minus point is maybe there could be classes at different times of the day , I go early morning before work or between 1 and 4 after work and there are none.

5 days after joining and with the…
5 days after joining and with the initial payment coming out of my bank account, I am still waiting for my membership details ( membership number etc) to be emailed, upon sending an enquiry ticket to customer services, I received a reply stating it will take up to 14 working days before someone looks into it, I’m sorry to say that I find this unacceptable and dismissive.

I have just joined as a member of the Barnsley Gym
I have just joined as a member of the Gym in Barnsley, I find it okay for training and the equipment is good. I also like to use the Sauna and Showers and changing rooms. The changing rooms are spacious with toilets and Sauna entrances off them. The Saunas are single sex only. There are hairdryers in the changing rooms which are free to use . I have only used it for a few weeks since I joined as I have been suffering from Flu. But when I get back to full health I will use the facilities again 3 to 4 times per week.

Gym is decent, timekeeping is shocking
Gym is decent, what worries me the most is the pink haired cleaner, it is currently 5.10 as I write this status and the changing rooms haven’t even been opened. She doesn’t do her job properly and is seen sitting down in back room and the changing rooms. It’s becoming a joke now as fitness and health is a priority. The sauna should be available from 5am. Not 5.15am and freezing cold

Great Facilities, but Lacking Guidance for Newcomers
The environment is very clean and hygienic; the bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms are well-maintained. However, the WiFi connection is not very strong and often unreliable. When I mentioned it was my first time here, I was only shown the location of the changing rooms and showers. I asked for a program to help with weight loss but was told I’d need to speak to a personal trainer for that, and no further details were provided. I didn’t even know how to use some of the equipment and had to ask a friend who recommended this place or look it up online. I believe the staff should assist newcomers with basic guidance on equipment use and general information. This kind of support would help new members feel more comfortable and confident.

We absolutely do offer inductions to all of our new/existing members. If you would like to book an induction, please get in touch with your gym directly and a member of the team can help book you into one of our induction slots with a Fitness Coach. Or you can email the manager on Barnsley@jdgyms.co.uk
This will be a dedicated session with one of our Fitness Coach's to give you a basic understanding of the equipment we have so you feel comfortable and safe when working out.
Alternatively if you are looking for a bespoke weight loss plan (any other fitness goal also) All our gyms have a number of qualified Personal Trainers, each with their own expertise and methods. The PT board, which you will find on the wall inside the gym has all of their contact details on for you to get in touch with them, or a manager in club would be able to introduce you to them.

There is an excellent selection of equipment loads of benches and free weights. All the machines have brilliant range of motion for a great stretch while training staff seem great The gym itself nice and clean although I kind of prefer the slightly untidy rustic look. ( just my preference). Overall I believe I will be staying with jd gym.

Lack of communication over the app
The app will not let generate a qr code for me to enter the gym so I am paying for a membership for no reason I have emailed them twice to sort this issue and had no response at all from them

Hello, thank you for leaving a review. However we are disappointed to hear that you have had troubles accessing the QR code through the app and more so the issues you have had about getting in touch with a member of our team in Barnsley.
As a quick fix to get you on the gym floor, you are more than welcome to go to the gym and press the green "push for assistance button(hold for a couple of seconds, not like a door bell) in the entrance. This will alert a member of the team that you are at the entrance and they will allow you access. In this time they can have a look into your app in club to rectify any issues with allowing you access.
On top of this we will also forward on your comments to the team in Barnsley for them to get in touch with you for any possible remote assistance they can offer.

Excellent gym
I was a bit nervous about joining a gym for the first time in my 40’s but I felt at ease as soon as I walked in. It has a good atmosphere, plenty of equipment to choose from and the changing facilities are spotless.
I think I’ve finally got the gym bug everyone talks about. Look forward to going every time

Welcoming, with a wide range of ages and body shapes.
I have only recently joined this gym, so am reviewing on just a few visits so far. The staff seem very knowledgeable and helpful, providing all the information I needed to make a judgement about joining, then later giving me a thorough induction as a member. The facilities are good, although my previous gym had a little cafe where non-member family and friends could meet me for a cuppa after a session, which was nice and lead to some of them joining. The equipment is clean, but my only gripe is that a few of the weight pins are missing, rendering the equipment they belong to unusable. I was advised to just take one from a machine which was not being used, but that just seems to be passing the problem on.
Having said that, everything else is great, and fellow users are a really good mix of ages, shapes, and levels of fitness. I can see myself being a member for quite some time.

Gone downhill
I signed back up after 5 months away from this gym and was i in for a shock the gym feels dirty as soon as i walked in the changing rooms there was a funny smell,the gym floor isnt much better the equipment is showing its age ,everything is either loose and rickety,squeeking or got adjuster handles missing (benches and pin loaded) definitely in need of a revamp if it wants to keep up with other gyms in the area

This gym went from having the worst car park a gym could have to being the smoothest and best car park a gym could have! Thank you for resurfacing that car park! I no longer have to worry about getting lost in a sinkhole crater in the car park!
