I’ve been using JD Plymouth since it opened, in conjunction with Bodyworld. Both have a good range of equipment and I like the choice they offer. However, I’ve recently stopped going to JD during the... See more

Good gym good equipment but it’s like a sauna in there, I’m sweating just sat there they have a cooling system but it’s never on, shame as I probably will leave because of this

Please can the management of the gym explain why there is no air con and it’s switched off during the hottest day of the year? It reached 24 degrees in the gym today. This becomes unbearable and dangerous for people who are partaking in heavy training. You owe your users a duty of care to provide a safe environment. Almost fainted today because of it.
Love going to this gym, great atmosphere, great kit, very friendly and helpful staff. Gym is always clean and tidy which makes the experience even better.

Do not get a membership with this gym. It is honestly a scam if you want to cancel you still have to pay them for two more months worth of membership because they take ages to process the cancellation. Half the machines aren’t adjustable for smaller people, I’m 5,2 and I can barely use half the machines as I either can’t reach to adjust them or they just aren’t adjustable for my height. I have found this a lot in gyms that the machines can be quite inaccessible.

Gym is a great size and has a lot of equipment, many different types for the same muscle group which means you aren't waiting around for much, which is great. The staff are always friendly and easy to talk to and the cleaners do a Ln amazing job keeping everything clean and tidy. A small negative would be that there's only 1 pec dec/Rear delt machine and 2 smith machines, but that's minor details to an all in amazing gym.

JD PLYMOUTH
It could be great and was ok when I joined but has deteriorated massively, it just needs to be managed and looked after better - sadly there is no sign of that happening
PRO:
-Good range of equipment
-plenty of parking
-24hrs (but changing rooms closed 10pm-6am)
-car wash is close (can’t think of any other positives)
CON:
-way too hot! the air con is naff, you cant comfortably do cardio/hyrox workouts here. JD seem to refuse to believe this is an issue despite so many others saying the same in other reviews. It’s either because they bought it from wish or have it a temperature comfortable for the staff stood around
-Equipment that breaks takes ages to be repaired and some seems to be left. (There’s treadmills that constantly stick and some have damaged/broken boards which happens with cheap low end equipment)
-Always a lack of carabiners on cable machines so you can’t attach anything to it, last time I went 4 cables couldn’t be used because of a lack of carabiners. Alot of attachments way are pass their life and need replacing
-machines are often pushed out of alignment so you feel your training on top of someone else or people knock into you squeezing pass your machine
-Not much staff presence unless they are huddled around chatting with each other, a few staff members must have been off sick when they did customer service training.
-toilet and shower area is often dirty. Always a lack of hot water too for some reason.
-equipment is often sweaty and sticky (the cleaners do their best and they are hardworking gems but they are fighting a losing battle, members don’t wipe equipment down with sweat towels like JD seem to be think/say they do in review replies)
-can’t use power racks and safety bars for heavy chest press as they don’t like benches in that area
-early mornings before the changing rooms are open you have to store your bag in a hallway where literally anyone could steal something.
Review done…..membership cancelled.

Been going to jd gym Plymouth since the day it opened, plenty of equipment to use. Staff are friendly, always helpful when trying a new machine and have shown me how to use it correctly. The place is generally clean and tidy. Other members are friendly and encouraging like a little community. I can say I have never felt intimidated or overwhelmed, just put the headphones on and have a great session every time. Would recommend to anyone starting out on their gym journey wether it be for mental or physical gains..

I was in the Main Studio doing my exercises. It was me and 3 more people in there. A guy comes telling that we have 3 minutes to leave because the Studio is booked. Note: There is enough space in Main Studio for 50 people, easy.
I asked if it's ok to finish my exercises in a corner room, connected to the Main Studio. The answer was: Why would you be able to do that? The studio is booked. I said ok. 30 minutes later I passed by the studio and there were 3 persons. In a studio that can fit 50. I don't find it normal to have only 15 minutes between classes. I pay for the entire gym. I could understand if the class was fully booked but this guy had 3 people in the class.
I'll probably look for something else.

Big gym, lots of equipment, would probably benefit from an extra leg extension and machine row as these are popular machines so you sometimes need to wait for these, but the gym does have lots of other equipment that I haven't seen at other gyms so probably better equipped for specific bodybuilding work than others are. Music is sometimes quite loud but not always. Gym is always clean and tidy and haven't had any bad interactions with staff or members.
