After a long time, I bought a few days ago stemmed mackerel fillet in extra virgin olive oil. The product was disgusting in every way. 1 / a quarter of the can was empty, 2 / there was no trace of f... See more

To preface; I've been eating their tins of tuna in brine for years, and the worst I've had happen is a bit of bone once or twice over the course of like 10 years. No problems there, that's to be exp... See more

I bought tuna chunks in spring water…
I bought tuna chunks in spring water but inside was all flakes, a very inferior product.
Their contact form doesn't work and their answerphone
is embarrassing - still waiting for a reply.
How the brand leader has fallen.
Tuna in brine, loaded with bones
Bought a three pack of Tuna in brine, opened one, loaded with long white bones, not the little bones that are soft .
Sent them an email, thought , John West, reputable company. Nope
Customer service more or less said, “sorry, but there’s a warning on the can about bones and hope you enjoy our products….
That’s me finished with John West, apparently the whole company was bought over by some group in Thailand and quality is rubbish , ruin your own business ………..
Would like to give it no star rating!
Would like to give it no star rating!
Most products that this company is offering are shocking!
It’s just tasteless mush, how things have changed over time, we all need to tell them what we think of it now, and not buy it!
John West Tuna in olive oil and Salmon cans
Our John West Tuna in olive oil and Salmon has been amazing. We have them all the time and make salmon and tuna patties. I don’t understand all the bad comments here!
Foreign object found in the ingredients
Hair found in tin of John West Sardines in tomato sauce.
Opened tin and found straight away a foreign object that was a 4 inch black hair.
Informed John west customer service but basically indicated that they have high quality procedures and it is very rare that a human hair may enter the product.
Tin disregarded and will definitely not be buying any further John West products.
Awful customer service - Avoid
Awful customer service - raised a query around what appeared to be worms in 2 pots of tuna bought as a 3 pack.
Over the course of the next week I had to constantly chase for updates until I was eventually advised they were blood vessels left in the product as a result of poor QC.
When I asked for recompense I was advised it was safe to eat - by this point due to its age and the time they took to deal with my query the fish was mouldy and had been disposed of.
Awful customer service. Avoid.
Bought 3 tins off tuna easy drane it…
Bought 3 tins off tuna easy drane it was awful. Dry as a bone .the dog got all off it .won't buy again really disappointed
Absolutely horrible blood black bits…
Absolutely horrible blood black bits and bones wouldn't feed it to a cat disappointed will not buy again
Horrible
I didn't remember John West to be such a low quality brand.
The colour of the canned tuna is dark brown, with dark blood and bits in it.
I've tried multiple packages, recently I've noticed the poor quality, it's such a disappointment and such disrespect to us customers.
I bought Tesco's tuna and it was great quality! No blood, no weird colour, no bits.
John West do better or close your company, this is appalling!
“John West was the best” up until 5…
“John West was the best” up until 5 years ago (the best as all their advertising stated back then. But definately not now. Now all the products are the lowest quality being total dry, discoloured fish, taste absolutely horrid and the tins are only 60% full. Absolute garbage. Better to buy any other brand even Cole’s and woolies brands are far, far better. So disappointed John West you have ruined the brand. Had one mouthful of three different products recently, inedible quaility and had to throw out every tin. I will never buy again from John west.
Steam Pots
I enjoy the steam pots for lunch because they’re fairly cheap and a good source of protein. I also don’t have time to cook given my 9-5 so it’s convenient when I’m trying to hit my protein goals on busy days. I do miss when the tuna in the steam pots were seasoned though. There was a time the Mexican and Indian style steam pots has seasoned tuna to add in rather than just plain tuna with all the seasoning in the pasta/couscous/rice/noodles.
Also would like if more steam pot and lunch on the go flavours are available from Ocado as only some are.
Poor quality tuna
They used to advertise "if you want the best, choose John West". If it was true years ago it certainly isnt now. If you want the best choose M&S tuna in olive oil. There is just no comparison. Apart from the fact that the M&S tuna tin is full as opposed to two thirds full it is chunky instead of flakey and tastes much better
GARBAGE
Bought a can of overpriced tuna with strange black objects, disgusting!!
Read test of their macarel in Danish Forbrugerrådet, also poor quality and inflated prices.
Bought some John West Anchovies
Bought some John West Anchovies. Cost a little more than I would normally pay, but thought they would be best for the the meal we had in mind....wrong! Want to put on here some photos but not sure how? But...the jar showed it to be full. Wrong again. Took the lid off and the Anchovies were pushed hard against the bottle sides giving the impression that it was full...absolutely ripped off! A 1 inch hole..2.5cm space from top to bottom. Not at all full ! What a rip off!
Had a response and asked to send photos of the issue I raised. That was the 5th May. It is now the 16th June....nothing! Hey oh..there is now better on the market.
Purchases a tin of pink salmon
Purchases a tin of pink salmon. In date use by 31.7.25. Just full of black slimey skin. Inedible. Would not recommend on purchase again
Would give no stars if l could
Would give no stars if could bought tuna in date when opened was discoloured did not spell nice after taken photos and contacting John west asked to send can back which did after over 4 weeks do not reply to emails service is terrible this is an experience item think twice before buying again
I'd give zero points but you have to…
I'd give zero points but you have to select one star to activate the message box. Having read the reviews about customer services and in particular, the "Tuna in Spring Water" tins I have changed my mind to complain. Instead I hope this message serves to add to the same messages saying the same, don't buy! My tuna on opening was orange. Yep orange and was like tree bark. It almost put me off tuna for life. I always regarded Jon West as the "Rolls Royce" of tinned fish. No way. I'll save mins of my life by not proceeding further other than to chuck the other two in the bin!! Shows how much they care about their customers and product doesn't it?!!!
I bought a pack of three Tuna in Spring…
I bought a pack of three Tuna in Spring Water. On opening two, neither had any water, they had bad colour and smelt. Contacted John West Customer Service but, to date, no one has replied. Very, very bad service.
Mash not chunks
I bought a tin of John West tuna chunks in spring water to make a Salade Nicoise. It is the word 'chunks' that has led me to complain. The tin definitely had tuna in it and water (whether spring water or not is arguable). The tuna was neither in chunks or in flakes but looked like it had been mashed with a fork. OK for sandwiches perhaps but certainly not as described on the tin - an inferior product!
