Very poor management of my property. Left humidity settle, lost keys to property while it was vacant and were unable to provide with code for the box when new management company took over, resulting in extra cost that John Sheperd has yet to reimburse after 6 months and multiple emails on the matter. Very unprofessional.

We met up with our agent Kelvin Zakeyo for a viewing the day of the enquiry. Even though we were a few minutes late to the viewing and he had engagements after, he was very happy to guide us through the viewing and did not rush through it one bit. He showed us around the entire property, and answered all the questions, clearing any doubts we had. He was extremely helpful and supportive, and he brought a great energy to the viewing. My friend and I ended up booking the apartments with him after our viewing and Kelvin made the process so simple and easy. Will definitely be singing his and John Shepherd’s praises if anyone’s looking for a good place in Nottingham.

I had a very poor experience with John Shepherd Student Lettings and would strongly advise others to avoid this agency if they want to save themselves a lot of hassle.
At the end of our tenancy, we did not receive our deposit back for six months after it was supposed to be returned. On top of that, the agency tried to take most of our deposit for “damages” that were already present in the property before we moved in, which was extremely frustrating and unfair.
During the tenancy, maintenance was handled terribly. No fixes were done for months. One room had mould for around three months before it was finally addressed, and this actually made one of my housemates ill. This level of neglect is unacceptable, especially in student accommodation.
There was also a major problem with the rent at the start of the tenancy, which added unnecessary stress right from the beginning. Throughout all of this, communication was consistently terrible and unprofessional. Emails and issues were not dealt with properly or in a reasonable timeframe.
In particular, the response and help from Rahim Iqbal regarding both the deposit and maintenance issues was appalling. The agency clearly needs more staff, as getting any help or resolution took far too long.
Overall, this was a very stressful experience and I would not recommend John Shepherd Student Lettings to anyone.

He answered all our questions, was always willing to reach out to landlords if he didn't know something, was able to get us a really good place so quickly and was all round just a pleasure to work with. If you're a first-time renter, or even if you're not, honestly, go for a place from these guys.

I made numerous attempts via email to raise issues regarding the checkout report issued to a property i previously rented, no response has been given to this date.
Quick responses were given when money was being asked from ourselves but the same courtesy was not applied when issues were raised in return!
During our tenancy several issues were raised regarding mould growth and related damages, to which we received very little response or appropriate action.
All my fellow tenants and I requested was an opportunity to deal with these problems in a non prejudicial manner. We hope this can still happen and the problems can be resolved shortly.

If I could give zero stars I would. If you are a student in Nottingham DO NOT rent with this company. Their communication has been awful from day 1 and we never had any idea what was going on. Any issues we reported weren’t fixed until we had asked multiple times. My toilet was leaking and flooding the bathroom which was an urgent issue and they still took a few days to take action. They never bothered reporting the building lift being broken to the landlord even though we are on the top floor and reported it many times. On the day we moved in we had to spend around an hour and a half negotiating to get our keys on the day we were meant to collect them as they tried to charge us an extra few hundred pounds that we never owed them in the first place. Once we finally got the keys we got to the property and the kitchen hadn’t even been cleaned even though they promised it had and to make matters worse 2 of the 10 bedroom keys did not work. The key collection was scheduled at 4pm on a Friday and they had no out of hours office to contact for help and we didn’t get our new keys for another week. So if anyone is thinking of renting one of their properties I hope this has proven why you should not.

Currently having a really poor and frustrating experience with John Shepherd Nottingham. Communication rubbish and customer care rubbish. My sons tenancy ended in June 25 and it's now 8th Nov and no sign of any deposit being returned. Assumedly there is an problem, but JS can't even communicate that there is an issue. On the occasions it is possible to get through, personal phone messages left with with other staff for Saskia not returned. Voice mail not returned. No follow up from a visit by the son to the office. I'm not naive enough to assume there isn't an issue, although I be curious to know why. Saskia/JS - please provide an update.
