Edinburgh in February

Very nice apartment within easy walking distance from Waverley Station and close to Royal Mile. Comfortable and clean and with very good back up from Joivy to sort out any problems. Would not hesitate to use again.

The apartment was fantastic, the heating situation was awful

The apartment itself was fantastic. It’s in a prime location right on the Royal Mile, within walking distance of restaurants, Edinburgh Castle, and many of the city’s main attractions. The room was clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped with appliances, and we felt very safe during our stay.

Our main disappointment was with the heating. On the day we arrived, we spent several hours trying to get it to work while coordinating with our contact. Eventually, someone came to fix the broken boiler and thermostat—but by that time, we had essentially wasted our first day sitting in the cold, wearing our coats indoors.

Even after it was fixed, the thermostat presented some challenges. While we could adjust it during the day, it would automatically lower at night, and we would wake up shivering. This meant we often had to get up in the middle of the night to raise the temperature so the apartment was comfortable in the morning. It took hours for the temperature to rise to a comfortable level. This was a daily battle during our stay.

This may not be an issue in warmer months, but if you visit in winter, be prepared to adjust the heating several times daily, especially in the middle of the night.

We have traveled extensively, and this was the first time we’ve encountered a problem like this. It slightly marred what was otherwise a wonderful stay in Edinburgh.

As other reviewers have noted, the building’s front door is tricky to open and very heavy. Guests with mobility issues should also be aware that the stairs are steep and potentially hazardous.

The rent is really high and they don't…

The rent is really high and they don't work on weekends (so far that's when people can move since they don't work or study). Cleaning of the apartment is on you, and flatmates. If flatmates are dumb, you'll have to clean for them in order to live in a decent place. There's no way you can complain about the flatmate not cleaning.

I'm definetely a client and I haven't received any form :)

COMPLETE NIGHTMARE, EVERYTHING A LIE

My experience with Joivy was absolutely horrifying. I booked an apartment thinking it matched the listing, but everything they promised was a lie.

From the start, nothing went as expected. We were first given the wrong key, then finally got the apartment — which was filthy, broken, and completely uninhabitable. The shower had no hot water and the rod was broken, the washing machine was unusable, the oven and microwave did not work, and the stovetop was unsafe. The kitchen and bathroom were disgusting. The mattress was unacceptable. You literally cannot live here.

Every promise in the listing — about cleanliness, functionality, and support — was false. The Joivy app, required for maintenance and payments, did not work. Reporting issues was impossible. All I got were endless redirections: WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, email — but no one took responsibility or provided a real solution.

Despite paying deposits, admin fees, and mandatory cleaning fees, the apartment was in a state no one should ever be expected to live in. Communication was slow, confusing, and ultimately useless. Everything advertised by Joivy was untrue.

If you are moving to another country, especially as a student, do NOT book here. This was a horrible, stressful, and completely dishonest experience.

Never trust Joivy — everything is a lie.

However, we would like to clarify that the situation became challenging for us even before check-in, as you declined to come to our office to collect the keys, which is part of our standard procedure and clearly communicated in advance. 
During your stay, we promptly addressed your concerns regarding the room and the apartment. Despite our efforts, and following further communications — including contact from your legal representative — we mutually agreed to terminate the contract early, without applying any penalty, in order to resolve the matter as smoothly as possible.
We always strive to provide a positive experience for our guests and remain available to clarify any doubts prior to arrival to help avoid misunderstandings.

This flat is fantastic

This flat is fantastic! The key lick worked very easily and the information about this and our stay were excellent. It is very clean, well furnished and homely. We loved the variety of Scotland related pictures! The heating system is superb and the shower worked very well. It is so centrally placed with a Tesco store around the corner and a bus and tram stop also a small walk around the corner. We would love to stay here again. We have stayed in a variety of self catering homes in Scotland and abroad and this is one of our favourites.

The apartments location was perfect for…

The apartments location was perfect for visiting the new and old town of Edinburgh. It was equipped with eveeything needed, clean and warm. When in Edinburgh there is so much to see so you wont spend a lot of time in your acvomodation so the value was also a bonus. Perfect for a single peraon or couple sharing. Wouldnt recommend for a family as was small but again perfect for us visiting as a couple no complaints.

Very cold apartment..even when heating…

Very cold apartment..even when heating turned up the bathroom is freezing 🥶....awful draft from the bedroom window.
Extremely noisy throughout the night.
Not impressed with the inside of the property, no carpets which just adds to the noise factor.

No support from joivy

I have been waiting 4 days for receiving the keys without any support from the agents in charge, since the location sent for the pick up wasn’t available.
I had to sleep 3 nights in a hotel room and did not received any support from anyone from the joivy team.
It seems that none is willing to refund me for the hotel expenses and received any apologies nor support for 4 frustrating days.
The room and location of the apartment are top, but the customer service is absolutely not existing

I would like to update my previous comment. When I first moved in, there were several missing items and some repairs that needed to be done in the apartment. Although it took some time, the situation has now been resolved and my requests have been addressed. A new bed was delivered and the walls have been painted. I appreciate the efforts made to fix these issues. Thank you.

Don't look futher. This is the place!!

The apartment is fantastic. Spacious inside, with 3 master bedrooms, a large living room, 2 bathrooms, and all modern conveniences. Centrally located within walking distance of attractions. Joivy is an excellent host! Highly recommended!
