Kinekt Design... From excellent to festering A$$hat

I was a big fan of Kinect Design gear rings when they first came out in 2010. I wore mine religiously and bought seven or eight over the years. They were great quality and always a conversation starter. I even referred friends and purchased other pieces, like the Rachel necklace.

Then things went downhill fast. I paid $275 for a pre-order of the Kinector necklace pendant in Jan 2023 that was supposed to ship for valentines day, but never delivered. When I asked about it, the replies got bizarre—rambling, evasive, and flat-out weird. He refused to ship my order or refund my money. I even filed a small claims lawsuit against Kinect Design and Glenn Lieberman, but I doubt it will matter. He’s basically out of business, website is 404, and his ranting newsletters have ceased to fill my inbox. you can buy a similar ring on Temu for $8, although it takes several months of spinning the ring to get it to spin smoothly like the ones out the door from Kinekt.

What started as a great small company has collapsed into paranoia, broken promises, and nonsense. It seems that he's screwed over his entire staff and is now a one-man operation. It’s sad to watch, but let’s be honest—he turned into an a$$hole.

Negative review updated.

I gave a very negative review in November 2024 based on interaction with the owner, Glen. I like all the products I have from his company, but his person to person interactions were toxic. Unexpectedly I received a notice from him…and he sent my previously paid for item in the mail. So I need to update my review…and wish him well.

If I could give no stars I would. KINEKT IS OUT OF BUSINESS AND A SCAM

If I could give no stars. i would....I paid $140 to Glen Liberman at Kinekt back in September 2024 for a Red Ziggy, a fidget object. Through countless email threads, wacky promises, crazy emails (the last of which was 2 weeks ago), even veiled threats, then apologies, offers of making a deal and sending me 2 rings, etc.. He kept saying that it would be mailed, that there was an issue with the packaging (he even sent a video as proof). Said I didn't pay him in real cash, it would be mailed on his time, even said that the Ziggy was made but he's not going to send it to me....then an hour later he emailed me and said he would and I'll have it soon. Well, another two weeks went by and today I decided once again to email him....well, he is OUT OF BUSINESS. My email to him bounced back, and there is no longer a kinekt website. He was thrown off Kickstarter when he tried to fund the campaign for the Ziggy. I own two rings from Kinekt (the gear ring and the rachel ring, and two necklaces,no issues with them and very nice designs. A once innovative company is down the drain. I am out $140 dollars...I believe I used paypal, but because it's over 180 days I am out of money. I am so mad....and I am trying to find a way to get the money back.

Another defrauded designer

Another designer passing through that didn't get paid. The founder became enraged when I refused to do work for free after I calmly stated that additional work beyond what we agreed to would require additional time and money. After this altercation the pending payment for work I had done that whole month was denied.

The illustration used in the founders Patreon is stolen, work that I did and was never compensated for. The new product announced in newsletters utilised my imagery and 3D design work, more material I was never paid for. If you bought a 'Superkinektor' ticket and read in the newsletter you would be receiving one in the mail soon I'm sorry to say that design work was again mine and not compensated. I had not yet sent those design files before being denied payment so you are not likely to receive anything for a while.

The founder oscillated between white hot rage, accusing me of stealing his work and threatening to bill me $500 an hour for every moment I had spent working for him, and desperate attempts to reconcile, stating "I still love you even if you hate me." He berated me about the amount of money he had spent on projects I had developed at his behest. He said I was "shutting him down" like a “liberal”, seemingly unable to comprehend that not paying me after agreeing to do so is a cold stop to any working relationship. I thought of anyone a conservative would understand that? This unprofessional and strange conduct was the cherry on top of having my work and time stolen. After being bombarded by emails for another week, with sentiments as changeable as the wind, I just stated I would not be reading any more correspondence until my invoice was paid. I received a torrent of 11 emails over the couple of days afterwards, which I will not be reading.

The founder claims the main issue with the creative industry is that everyone is “liberal” but the only person I have been defrauded by so far is the conspiratorial transphobic bigot with a history of screwing over designers and customers. He may feel the "elite satanic marxists" are out to get him and that Trustpilot serves no purpose because it doesn’t make anything, but it does a pretty good job of steering people away from unstable egomaniacs that will steal their money. Just like word of mouth back in the good old days, only this reaches further and faster.

I originally bought a gear ring set and was even sent a replacement when one wore out during my time there, which was a really nice gesture. An example of the "hot and cold" personality you will be dealing with. The design is interesting and the materials quality. The ideas and projects I worked on were genuinely exciting and novel. But I can't recommend any financial interaction with this company given its reputation. I would usually never encourage you buy from anyone but an original designer, but if you genuinely want a gear ring it is likely the knockoff sellers on Etsy and AliExpress will give you better customer service and have scammed less people over their lifetimes.

I am happy to edit this review if the founder can demonstrate it to be false by paying my invoice, but I don't think he will. Until then this remains as a warning to all potential customers and especially young designers he may approach. Avoid at all costs lest you lose your money, time and sanity.

I wish I could give negative stars

I wish I could give negative stars. Glen Liberman is a scam and a fraud. I was hired as a designer for Kinekt and he is now refusing to pay what he owes me. A debt collection has been notified but want to warn everyone.

A change from great to poor

When I got the gear ring early on, 2012 or so, it was fabulous. I loved it, and bought more. I still wear it. The price, for the value, was excellent. It is a creative masterpiece. The owner, Glen, and staff very helpful and attentive. The bad news is that in 2023 the company started sending out very odd emails, and promised special newsletters and contests for a one time fee. Since then the marketing has gotten even stranger. Sad, but I've signed off. If you can get the items you like, you will be happy. But realize that the customer service is in the tank.

File a dispute with your bank immediately

Just checking back in with everyone. If you worked with this clown and had no luck, don’t waste your time, immediately contact your bank and file a dispute. They will request proof and if he’s as crazy with you as he was with me, you probably have 20 emails… My bank has already credited the account, don’t let him waste your time because you only have so long to file. He knows it too, and he sent some colorful emails to me after the bank got everything taken care of such as me not having any brain power to understand the economy. Anywho, take care of yourself and don’t let this POS get away with stealing from you.

No product after paying over a year ago. No refund either.

Updating my review. It has been over a year since I put in my order. Still no product. While waiting many months as he said the product was in production, he ha now said my order was cancelled and to check my bank for the refund. There is no refund.
The final update is that he has no intention of sending me the product because he doesn't like me, and because they cost too much to produce and he is not making an adequate profit. If you can believe it he suggested I send him more money for the item that I don't have, and then he would send it! Do people fall for that?
I have reported this fraud here to the Federal Trade Commission on their website. It was easy to do.
I suggest that if you have had a similar situation you do the same.

Do not buy Kamsa

Do not buy everything from this guy....
I just got the Kamsa after 12 months of waiting (paid on January $275) and it's broke in 5 min on my wife hand. I send an email to Glen and this is his answer.

"Yuval,

I've received your message. The first round of production units (especially with my design) are always a bit challenging. Unfortunately, I lost my bench jeweler so I'm no longer able to offer the service of repairs.

I would agree to send out another unit for $150.
Let me know. Thank you.

A poor, and rather odd, experience

It would seem given Glen's reputation that this review is a little redundant, since it echos the general consensus. A quick Goolge of his name and company is revealing, but not surprising to me.

I first bought from KinektDesign some years back, and was very impressed and bowled over by the level of support and care. So much so that I send them a little package all the way from the UK of various bars of chocolate as a thank you.

The next time I dealt with them, things had shifted and I found the responses to be less warm, but I got what I needed and even returned the bits I did not at my own expense, to be told they would not refund these anyway. Odd, but I shrugged and let it go.

I preoredered a keeper and chain for the gear ring in March 2023, Glen had sent out various emails abut struggling businesses so I thought I would support him.
I patiently waited, emailed for an update now and then, and was always told it would arrive soon.
Fast forward to December 2024, and Glen didn't tell me it had been sent but when I asked for an update, he said it had already been sent by FedEx in November and gave me the tracking details. This said simply "Delivered to the UK". No details of the delivery address, no proof of delivery, no clues about where it might be.

Glen could not have cared less.
I asked if there was proof of the delivery, proof of address delivered to, or if the package was insured. His response? "This is your problem not mine." When I pressed and gently reminded him that actually, under consumer law, until an item is safely received, it is actually the responsibility lf the vendor. Indeed he chose the method of shippping, and sent it without insurance nor with any proof of delivery.

Glen then went on a little rant about the UK's human rights violations in Syria (???) and tried to draw me into a political debate. Yes, his logic is that consumer law does not apply because of Syria...

He was rude, abraisive, sarcastic, and finished off by telling me I should be grateful that anyone even makes anything at all. He also said that flat currency is worthless and has no value, which makes me wonder why he bothers selling anything? To him, $150 may have no value, lucky him. To others, that is a substantial sum of money.

To couple that with repeated, odd, politically charged spammy mailshots from him, and lots of pleas for business, and endless emails about nothing at all, the whole thing was very odd.

In the end, I had to stop responding to Glen's oddness and found another way to get a satisfactory resolution which I now have, so I am not out of pocket. Sadly for KinektDesign, they will have no further custom from me.

A shame really, as simple politeness and actually sending his products with insurance and proof of delivery would have avoided all this. Indeed, I would have chalked it up to bad luck and left off had he not gone out of his way to be so "Glen". Such a fall from how they were a few years ago.

I wish I could give negative stars

I wish I could give negative stars. My husband bought me the Rachel Ring for my Birthday but it was too small. He emailed the company (Glen) and he rudely said no refunds or exchanges. You can buy another one at a slight discount. I emailed him next and got a rant about covid and politics. I asked him if this is really the kind of person he wants to be and sent him 5 bad reviews. His answer was "goodbye" I also told him word of mouth can either be really good or really bad. Choice made Glen, bad it is. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH KINECKT!

Do not buy - you will never get what you paid for!!!

Absolutely horrible. I ordered two rings in September 2023 and never received it and the exchange between myself and the company “Glen” was unbelievably rude - I truly could not believe it. It’s unfortunate because they had wonderful products but never buy from them - unless you are ok with donation. Total scam.

I pre paid for two rings and they never…

I pre paid for two rings and they never delivered. Then the master “Glen” sent me a nasty email about how I attacked him when I asked him how I could be reimbursed for the rings he never delivered after a year of waiting. That’s over $400 I paid and got 0 product. If I could rate this company less than 1 star I would. Childish, loser runs this so called “company” invest your hard earned money elsewhere. I’m sure they’ll probably just get this review removed. But word of mouth is the most powerful tool.

I paid 70 € for a ring I didn't received

I paid 50 € for a gear ring and 20 € to be shipped in Greece.
Well not only I haven't received the ring but the seller tried to convince me to pay another extra 50 € for the shipping because 20 isn't enough despite our mutual agreement.
I didn't pay the extra 50 of course and I haven't received the ring neither my money.
"Thieves" I lost 70 €. Stay away.
