LP5 - Excellent machine in need of better software
I operate the LP5 for my business and have been very impressed with its performance and versatility. The machine feels extremely well made and was packaged impeccably. The dual lasers are a gamechanger for small businesses who need cutting and engraving abilities on a wide range of materials, and I have been particularly impressed with its ability to cut thin brass in helical (metal cut) mode. Although my unit suffered a malfunction with the 450nm laser, the support team was incredibly diligent and responded promptly. My representative, Lin, provided straightforward steps to validate and troubleshoot the issue, and when it was determined the unit needed repairs, they were quick to send a replacement laser head.
The only things preventing me from rating five stars are issues with the LDS software and lack of guides and resources. While the machine is somewhat compatible with Lightburn, several critical features such as outline previews are not available. The LDS app for windows works fine for raster engraving but is lacking in features when it comes to vector editing, which necessitates the use of external software for most tasks. In particular, an improved corner radius/node editing tool, the ability to set coordinates from object centers, the ability to rename and add more layers, and the ability to save custom material settings would be extremely helpful. The material settings page for the LP5 is also pretty sparce, and I would love to see more technical video tutorials working with various materials. For now, getting comfortable with the LP5 requires a lot of trial and error, material settings documentation in a separate database, and vector work in other software.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with the LP5 and the team behind it, and I am confident they will work to improve the software so that it is on par with the capability of their machines.
