It's clear that you are angry about your LegalMatch experience, but after requesting more information I am still seeing only name calling and no specific complaint around which we can take corrective action.

Doesnt work

The one match I received was from an attorney firm that didnt practice what my issue was for and they never replied to my inquiries. I emailed LegalMatch and never received a reply

Hey Jessie at Legalmatch, I appreciate you concerned about this review, but I stand by this. I would work with you directly but I do not receive replys from legalmatch, same with the one match I was provided. Not return of phone calls. You request I update my entry, but it is accurate.

Edited to add: You did not get the representation you were expecting, and that is understandably frustrating. In order to provide free attorney-client matching services to people who are seeking legal representation, we use automations for many aspects of our business. It sounds like you are looking for a level of personalized attention that is beyond the scope of our free service.

Brian,
Given that you were matched with someone who does not practice your legal issue, we recommend you update your case details to provide more accurate information. Hope this helps!

Law Firms - Do not hire - deceptive marketing cold calls

For some reason Legal Match decided to start calling my law firm this year after we'd been in business over 10 years.

What angers me is that they keep telling my receptionist that they "have done business with me," "have a case they want to discuss with me," or "are calling about a potential client." These are just lies to get around my receptionist and intake team that screen marketing cold calls because they're a waste of my time.

I did end up talking with one of the agents eventually because Legal Match wouldn't stop calling my intake team and claiming they were a client and would ONLY talk to one specific lawyer at my firm. This of course was complete BS. I went through their pitch and explained that I don't work with paid leads companies that won't do Month to Month. If you stand by your product, you know people will continue to pay for it. If you don't, you need long term contracts. The sales agent I eventually spoke with was nice enough, but I really really do not appreciate marketing people lying to my intake or receptionist, even bending the truth, just to get to me. If you have a good product you don't need to do that.

Take your money and invest in your own branding and marketing campaigns.

12/22/25 Update - LegalMatch continues to call my firm and use the same tactics described above, despite leaving a response below that they've removed us from their list. Their customer service seems to be as dishonest as their sales people.

12/30/25 Update - I emailed their corporate and legal departments to get them to remove us from their call list like their response to this review claims. They have not done so and continue to call my intake team, lying to try and get past them. I am now doing what I told them I would do and leaving negative reviews elsewhere every time they call us and waste our time. 10/10 do not work with these scammers!

Two weeks of ignored outreach

Seven months ago, LegalMatch referred my boyfriend to an attorney for a complex case. She was disbarred last month, now faces up to 20 years in prison, and his family paid her over $25,000—before her alleged felony assault.

When we noticed red flags early on, he called to voice concerns. He was transferred to complaints manager “Jim.”

When Jim began raising his voice and berating him, he started recording the call.

Jim dismissed his concerns, told him he knew her personally, and that he was “lucky to have her.” When my boyfriend tried to respond, Jim cut him off: *“No, no, no Matthew. Period. End of story.”* Then: *“This is going nowhere. Have a good day.”* Click.

We’ve spent the last two weeks calling and emailing LegalMatch trying to get answers. Every number goes straight to voicemail. No one has responded.

He’s now navigating complex litigation pro se while managing serious health issues.

Your situation is understandably frustrating, and we're very sorry this happened to you.

Please note that LegalMatch is not a referral service but an attorney-client matching service which, as stated in the User Agreement, "provides a venue for providers and purchasers of legal services to exchange information with the goal of eventually forming a professional relationship. Do not use this platform. Get a local referral.

I would not use this platform ever again. This first part is about Legalmatch. They do not have effective controls in place to regulate attroney quality. They offer a guarantee but they aren't available for any support. The 775 legalmatch phone number rings an outdated answering machine and clients are instructed to leave a voicemail which they do not respond to.

Second, the attorney quality is low. We were referred to an attorney who was retired and living abroad. He took payment for a consultation then went quiet for two days. We had to follow up three times to get a scheduled appointment. Then he showed to our scheduled paid consultation 35 minutes late! During this paid call, it became clear immediately that he had not even reviewed the materials that we provided. As a result he was not prepared to address most of the questions in the brief that we provided effectively. That is the kind of attorney that uses this platform.

I would not recommend it to anyone.

We’re sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your recent LegalMatch experience. You didn’t get the representation you were seeking, and that is understandably frustrating.

Over the past 20 years, millions of clients have had success with our free attorney-client matching service. There have also been a few who were displeased. We’ve found that in those instances, it’s often because of a misunderstanding about how both LegalMatch and the legal industry work.

As described on our website:

1. You answer questions to share the specifics of your legal issue and provide available times so that interested attorneys can schedule with you.
2. Pre-screened lawyers in your requested practice area and location review your case within 24 hours.
3. If you permit us to share your contact information, interested lawyers respond to initiate a conversation.
4. At that time, you may schedule a consultation with one or more interested lawyers, during which you and each attorney determine whether there is a good fit for working together on your case.

Unfortunately, even when matched, some clients are unable to secure an attorney for a variety of reasons including bad timing (lawyers often need to prioritize their existing clients over potential new clients) and case details that don’t align with the attorneys practice specialty.

We review each attorney before they join LegalMatch, and do not allow membership to anyone who has an open complaint with their state bar association. If a lawyer fails you, please know that you have the right to file a complaint against them with the bar.

Attorneys beware of Legal Match

Attorneys beware of Legal Match based in Reno Nevada as a source for client leads. Legal Match is unscrupulous for their misrepresentations over inflating the amount of leads and the quality of leads seducing you into a 1 year contract that leaves you stuck making payments for a substandard service. For example, in the territory in California, costing over $1,110 a month I was advised they provide an average of 70 leads per month. The average has been less than 50. Then a representative who has apparent authority advises that they will let you out of your contract but later advises they cannot. Their overly friendliness and willingness to assist you does not make up for the lack of quality in potential clients who mostly are just looking for free legal advice, cannot afford an attorney, are seeking contingency arrangements for amounts that do not warrant the time, do not respond to you, have weak cases or no case. You spend up to 30 minutes on a consult, further time with follow up phone calls, emails, review of documents, so maybe you acquire 1-2 out of 50 that will actually retain you. After almost 7 months I have (3) clients from Legal Match. Maybe if you are lucky, you break even after all the time and effort expended, but in reality if placing a value on your time, you lose. Don’t trust them!!!

We want you to enjoy the kind of success we know is possible for you based on experiences like Attorney Rick M. In Norman, OK who says, "In my 10 years of using LegalMatch, I’m sure I had a couple of cases that settled in the six-digits. So it’s a couple of million dollars over the years."

LegalMatch receives more than 40,000 case leads each month across all legal categories, and each member attorney receives whatever portion of those leads corresponds with the practice category and location they selected during account setup. We cannot do the deeply personal work of screening these leads for you, and neither does your local bar association. There are just too many factors to consider, and only you can know which cases are valuable based on your personal practice-building goals.

Please work closely with your account manager so they can provide individualized guidance and help you get your LegalMatch membership working for you as intended.

Legal Mismatch!

A close friend of mine, an attorney, had a frustrating and disappointing experience with LegalMatch, and based on what he shared, I think it's important to raise awareness for others considering this service. In his case, the platform did not deliver what was described in the sales presentation. He was led to believe he would receive curated, qualified leads in his practice area and jurisdiction. Instead, what he received was a series of leads that he felt were unqualified, often unresponsive, and in some cases completely irrelevant — including contacts from outside his licensed jurisdictions or unrelated legal fields. According to him, many leads had no ability or willingness to pay, and others never followed up after initial contact. He described it as a “quantity over quality” experience, which did not reflect the personalized, professional lead-matching that was promised. In his view, the service felt more like random client requests being pushed through the system — which is why he jokingly suggested they rename it “Legal Spaghetti on the Wall: Does It Stick?”

He also expressed concern about how the service was marketed — with high expectations set around the number and quality of leads and ROI — none of which matched what he experienced. On top of that, he was locked into a long-term contract with auto-renewal terms that made it difficult to cancel. He felt that the refund policy was unclear and difficult to qualify for, despite the existence of a money-back guarantee being used in promotional material. Even now, long after discontinuing the service, he continues to receive marketing emails from LegalMatch, which he has found irritating and unsolicited.

In his personal opinion, the platform did not deliver on its promises, and he did not see a return on his investment. While every attorney's experience may differ, his feedback suggests potential clients should read all terms carefully, get any claims in writing, and be cautious before committing. His experience reflects a mismatch between expectations and reality, and he would not recommend the service to colleagues.

Your friend’s experience did not match their expectations, and that is understandably frustrating. Reviewing the complaints you’ve shared, it seems your friend could have used more support in navigating the LegalMatch platform and system. Receiving leads from outside their licensed jurisdictions or unrelated legal fields is an indicator that they needed to adjust their account settings, as LegalMatch receives more than 40,000 case leads each month across all legal categories and member attorneys receive whatever portion of those leads corresponds with the practice category and location they select during account setup.

LegalMatch delivers a regular stream of potential clients, but we cannot do the deeply personal work of screening these leads for any member attorney, and neither does the local bar association. With so many factors to consider, only the attorney in question can determine which cases are valuable based on their personal practice-building goals.

We wish your friend would have worked more closely with their dedicated account manager to maximize the return on their investment and achieve the kind of success we know is possible based on feedback from member attorneys like Alan R. from Overland Park, KS who says, “I have grown so satisfied with the return on my investment that I extended my membership for another three years,” Steve O. from Denver, CO who says, “I would say that overall, LegalMatch has increased my revenue by $2,000 or $3,000 per month, and that represents about 20 percent of my overall business,” and so many other happy member attorneys we’ve supported in building their clientele over the past 25 years.

We view each member attorney account as a collaborative business partnership for long-term success, and our contracts are structured to enable the kind of installment financing that makes access to our services affordable for small law firms and those just starting out in private practice. As with any formal agreement, we completely agree with you that it’s important to read all terms carefully, get claims in writing, and be cautious before committing. For those who no longer wish to receive email marketing, it’s also important to unsubscribe.

They don't keep appointments. What a Joke . If you want "the run around". This is the place for you! Goox

Did nothing but have a hundred lawyers call me, none for what I asked for, some not even the state I asked for. Finally I got a lawyer and set up a phone conversation for July 15th at 10:30 a.m. . I waited for 2 hours until I called back and they told me to wait a little longer. Well it's 2 days longer and I've had it with legal match. It would get negative two scores if I had that option.

Dear "California Attorney,"

When you posted a nearly identical review three months ago, I asked you to please contact me directly so I could do the necessary research to better understand and assist with your situation. I'm confused as to why, rather than email me at the address I provided, you simply added my name to your sweeping attack on the company.

In addition to a 7-day free trial, the majority of our memberships do come with a money-back guarantee which has specific requirements based on data-driven best practice recommendations.

We want you to experience the kind of success we know is possible for you based on experiences like Attorney Steve O. from Denver, CO who says, “I would say that overall, LegalMatch has increased my revenue by $2,000 or $3,000 per month, and that represents about 20 percent of my overall business.”

Having been in this business for more than 25 years, we aim to build a long-term partnership with each of our members. Please contact me as requested so I can follow up on your concerns.

Unfortunately, even when matched, some clients are unable to secure an attorney for a variety of reasons including bad timing (lawyers often need to prioritize their existing clients over potential new clients) and case details that don’t align with the attorneys practice specialty. EDITED TO ADD: This includes times when a lawyer's schedule requires them to prioritize current client needs, such as when a case is assigned an unexpected court date or series of court dates. If a lawyer says they will reschedule, and then there's no follow up, it doesn't mean they are a "garbage scam lawyer." Also, once a lawyer reviews client documentation, it's fairly common for them to decide against continuing to work with that client for a variety of reasons -- including personality fit. Successful matching allows both parties to decide whether or not to work with each other.

We review each attorney before they join LegalMatch, and do not allow membership to anyone who has an open complaint with their state bar association. If a lawyer fails you, please know that you have the right to file a complaint against them with the bar.
