I bought a navy and white large fascinator

I bought a navy and white large fascinator from Lesley Ashworth, Birmingham online. It is exactly as it appears on the website. Very nice. Wish it was cheaper but certainly very lovely. Took over a week to arrive via Royal Mail.

On line experience was very good

On line experience was very good. I had been looking for a hat for an upcoming wedding and came across Lesley Ashworth site and found the perfect hatinator in the colours I required and the right price.
The only downside was when it was delivered the box was rather crushed fortunately the hat inside was not damaged.

Not the service I expected

Having been in this shop many times and having had a lovely experience every time, today was so very different ..

I introduced my lovely friend to the shop telling her how lovely the fascinators are.
I know because I bought mine from there 4 years ago for my daughter's wedding.
My friends son is getting married in July so I brought her here as she has yet to find one to match her outfit.

She selected a couple of facsinators to try by the mirror.
The lady behind the counter made us feel so very uncomfortable, instructing my friend to drop the facsinators into the box at the side of the till once she had finished. We felt like a couple of naughty school girls.

We were advised that they preferred people to take their outfits in before even trying on the facsinators.
I know my friend had spent a lot of money on her outfit and it was an impromptu visit so why would she want to carry her outfit around Bromsgrove.

She did find a fascinator she liked and was going to purchase it, but decided not to due to the way we were spoken to.
Over the years I have bought a few things from this shop and always loved going in, but sadly I will never shop there again.
I happened to say that when I was trained in the handling and selling of bridal outfits that you are advised to start from the head down to the feet.
To this the sales assistant said well we've done it this way for over 20 years and we aren't going to change now.
What happened to being kind.

In response to your feedback, I personally investigated this as your comments are unusual as in the 22 years we have been trading this is the first of its kind...

As far as I can ascertain, there were a number of customers in the shop at the same time as you and your friends, who kindly shared some additional feedback.
As a consequence, the staff member was very busy when you visited and was serving other customers. I understand that you have personally been engaged in the bridal industry, so the last thing you want are customers randomly removing hats and fascinators from display as they damage easily so we prefer to assist customers in trying on their choices and ensure they are returned correctly.
Due to the fact that my staff member was engaged with another customer, she asked if you could place the hats you had chosen in the box when you had finished, so you didn't have to struggle putting them back on display and she could ensure they were returned to the correct place.

In speaking with other customers who were in the shop at the time, their opinion is that she didn't 'speak to you like naughty school children' and I regret you have taken it that way.

We do try and have customers bring in their outfit or material swatch to assist in matching the perfect combination as, without it, it is difficult to match our range of over 100 colours and styles, so to save disappointment, we believe that it is better to work with the customers choices. We do appreciate that many customers spend significant amounts of money on their dresses (as with your friend) but, if they are unable to bring their dress in, we will, of course try, do whatever we can with them .

Regarding your observation that we 'should start from the hat down', we believe that each customer has different requirements and we prefer to take an individual approach rather than adopting a standardised, and often, impersonal standardised approach. Unfortunately, your advice to the other customer in the shop at the time was not received well and I have had to apologise for your intervention.

As you are, probably, acutely aware, operating a small business in a retail environment is extremely difficult at present and if you feel your experience warranted a score of 1 on Trustpilot, I can merely defend our position with you - interestingly, the other 3 customers in the shop with you commented to me about the 'amazing experience they had'.

In conclusion, I do hope your friend found the perfect hat for her event and sorry that we won't be seeing you in one of our shops again
