I would like to share my experience with Locauto in the hope that it helps other travelers.
I booked a car through DiscoverCars for June 27–July 3. I didn’t book directly with Locauto because their website wouldn’t let me select a 4:00 AM return time, even though this option is actually available. Had I booked directly, I could have uploaded my driving licence in advance and would have been informed that it did not meet their requirements.
When we arrived to collect the car, Locauto refused to accept my Ukrainian driving licence because the issuing authority is written only in Cyrillic. Although all my personal information is in Latin characters and I have rented cars in Italy, Greece, Croatia, and Spain for years without any issues, they would not make an exception, even if we purchased full insurance.
Because the booking was cancelled at the pickup time, DiscoverCars refused a full refund and offered only 50% as booking credit. Locauto did not provide any alternative solution.
We eventually rented a car using my sister’s licence, which was accepted. However, because it was a new booking made on the spot, it was much more expensive. We were also told that only a higher-class vehicle was available, even though I had reserved an economy car well in advance. This left us wondering what had happened to the original vehicle and gave us the impression that we ended up paying significantly more than necessary.
The communication throughout the rental was also disappointing. Everything had to be done by phone—there was no WhatsApp support or clear written instructions. We were repeatedly transferred between operators, given different phone numbers, and even told to call the office directly, only to reach another automated operator and be redirected again. It felt like customer service was stuck 10 years in the past.
The biggest issue came when returning the car at 4:00 AM. We wanted to confirm the procedure in advance because the office would be closed. The operator simply told us to leave the keys in the key box near the office, but when we arrived, there was no key box there. Other customers were also searching for it. Eventually, we discovered that the key box was actually located at a different office inside Terminal 1. We found it only by chance, not because of the instructions we received.
Overall, this experience was stressful, expensive, and poorly organized. Compared to other rental companies I’ve used in several countries, Locauto’s communication and customer service were far less convenient. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I don’t think I would choose Locauto again.

First and foremost, the young man that rented the cart to me was super polite and offered me an upgrade since the car in the category that I had the booked was no longer available.
Then, even though I should have returned the car at T2 of the Malpensa airport, since my flight was from T1, the young lady that should have received it suggested that I simply return it to T1 without any problem.
Lastly, Locauto is among the very few rental car companies that don't require credit card.
