This company, although cheap, will try scam you for money following the handing over of the car. For me personally, they tried to charge me €2 for fuel + a €55 refuelling fee even though I fully refuelled the vehicle before returning to the rental drop off. A few days later the company sent me a credit note for €600 as a result of “damages” to the vehicle. In this case, I only had the car for around 4 hours of driving and did not incur any damage. I would not recommend this company at all and have a had to block them from draining my card of any more money!! DO NOT USE

Quick and easy
Quick release of vehicle so we could get on our way, quick return. Easy access at airport and petrol station close by for topping up the tank. No hassle at all.

Excellent pick up and drop off experience, no upsell attempts. Took 15 min to pick up the car at the airport and 5 min to drop off. The car was in good condition and didn't give us any troubles during the two weeks of rental. Will likely rent again from Locauto next time I am in Italy.

Local and very competitive
Locauto continues to be very competitive for renting a car in Italy and we do that ever 2 years. This is a local company and their cars are well maintained and very clean on pick up. The booking process is very easy and i have a choice of payment upfront or during pickup. On a drop off, staff are always very attending. This is definitely my preferred rental company.

All was fine until return of the car. The agent looked around, found a 1mm nick in a wheel rim and charged 130 Euros, only after asking if we'd taken photos. Very much like a make money scam. Terrible.

We would like to clarify why our agent asked if you had taken photos at the beginning of your rental. This question was actually asked to protect you: if you had photos showing that the damage was already there before you drove away, it would prove the damage was pre-existing, and you would not have been charged.
Furthermore, it is our policy to offer a joint vehicle inspection (a walk-around with one of our staff members) before you leave the parking area. This allows us to verify the car's condition together and immediately update the contract with any discrepancies you might notice.
Regarding the repair costs, our goal is maximum transparency. Our damage assessment procedures and the official damage price list are publicly available on our website at locautorent.com.
