They tried scamming us out of £200

Goldcar tried scamming me out of €224 at drop off!! A one way trip from Valencia to Alicante ended in a drop off experience from hell. Pick up was fine albeit with a sneaky airport fee which wasn’t communicated. 3 days later we dropped off the car at Alicante airport and some old jobsworth of a Spaniard went out of his way to find damage where there wasn’t any. He found a scuff on the rear driver side door, which I ultimately buffed out using a tissue. Not before stating I had been in a road traffic accident, demanding details of the accident. THE ONLY ACCIDENT WAS HIRING FROM GOLDCAR. I buffed out the supposedly ‘level 2’ scratch and called him back to inspect it. Clearly annoyed that he couldn’t swindle us, he walked off in a huff but not before swearing at us and flailing his arms about. I am making a formal complaint about the incompetent member of staff who tried to con us.

Chances are, you’re reading this having had a bad experience already and that’s the sad part. We feel quite lucky in hindsight having read the rest of the reviews below.

My advice is, tell your friends and family never to use this Micky Mouse outfit and hopefully they’ll go out of business soon. Not soon enough in my mind.

Good luck getting your money back.

IF YOU DO NOT BUY THEIR INSURANCE DAMAGES WILL COST EVEN MORE!!!

Upon arrival we were given a car that had 24 dents or scratches and for us to search for more. There were no other cars for us and we had our own insurance.

It was not easy to see in a dim lit area. The office lady came with her light and did find one more and when we found one more we decided to cancel the contract. We wasted nearly 2 hours looking for damage. If we had rented the car, we certainly would have been charged like so many others have experienced.

We found that using taxis saved a lot of time. money and headaches. We saved over 250 euro and found we do not need to rent a car anymore.

Had VERY bad experience with Goldcar Pmi

Had VERY bad experience, we had rented a car at Palma de Mallorca PMI airport. The car was booked in the Netherlands with additional comprehensive insurance with doyouspain (you don't have to do that btw) Well, great bigger car, I agree. The 2nd day with the car, the car broke down, EPC lamp came on. Quickly with daughter on an emergency lane, the car just went out. Call emergency services, they could find us after 1.5 hours, took the car and we walked back to the apartment. Goldcar had said take a taxi to pmi for a new rental car, why? why not take a taxi through them or with the towing company? After a few hours we arrived at PMI again, a whole day of car rental gone. We got another car, the taxi 80, - euros would be covered by additional insurance. How so? their car had a breakdown then you should deal with it anyway! Well no, they just let us down. We were not insured for this via doyoupspain. Emailed in the Netherlands with goldcar, but they don't answer, so irritating !! NEVER no more Goldcar for us!!!

Easy pick up and great service

Had a really smooth booking and pick up at Palma airport. Now wait, easy check in (I had pre-booked online) and very helpful staff. I dropped my driving licence just outside their kiosk and got a phone call before I got to the car telling me they had found it. Cannot find a single fault.

Total scam!

We rented a car via DoYouSpain and then this was managed at Barcelona Airport by GoldCar. We only used the car to get to beginning of trekking holiday and then after trek to return to airport. We were explicit that we did not want full insurance or any extras. We were charged 420 Euros in Addition to 160 Euros for Do You Spain. Please never use them!!!!!!!

Jet2 special offer car hire scam.

Jet2 special offer car hire scam.
Booked when I saw an offer during on line check in to hire a car from Palma airport for 8 days. Price £212. Plus I paid an extra £56 for full car insurance. When arriving at the Goldcar desk in the airport i was told I needed to pay Goldcar another €135 which included airport taxes. I also paid another €135 for fuel, to be refunded when i returned the car with a full tank. I cancelled our usual bus pick up to Puero de Pollenca to do this and wished I hadn't.

Jet 2 Info states that when you get to the Goldcar check in desk you may decide to buy additional insurance cover "to reduce or remove your excess, or to cover things your collision damage waver (CDW) doesn't, such as tyres and windscreen"?

I was not given any choice and was told I had to pay more.

So the Jet2 offer of a hire car with full protection insurance which we bought EXTRA is a false representation and does not actually offer FULL cover and the Goldcar EXTRA charge is extortionate and seemingly mandatory. We had no choice!

Jet2 also omit to mention airport tax as another mandatory charge.

Pathetic response from Jet2.
Thank you for contacting Jet2.com about your car hire in Majorca.

Due to the nature of your complaint, I wanted to take a deeper look into this before coming back to you. On hiring a vehicle, customers are required to provide a holding deposit on collection of the vehicle and are subject to excess charges in the event of damage, The insurance taken at the time of booking covered you to drive whilst abroad.

I’d like to assure you Jet2.com, aim to be transparent and fair and ask customers to contact us before signing any additional forms to do with their package. After raising your concern with Goldcar, I found you signed a form agreeing to insurance Super Relax along with the taxes on the rental, once signed the document is then deemed as Legally binding Contract and we’re unable to assist further as the signature counts as an official agreement to this optional insurance service provided by the supplier.

Please be assured we taken this matter seriously and raised your concerns with the Rental Car Supplier. They’ve confirmed they’ve processed a refund of £51.79 for the insurance element taken out at the time of booking as a gesture of good will. I hope this shows we acknowledge the impact to you on this occasion.

Thank you for sharing this information with us and I hope the actions taken reassures you that your feedback is valued. I hope, despite the start to your holiday you and Heather had a lovely time Majorca, as we hope to welcome you again soon.

Thankfully my credit card company saw things differently to Goldcar and gave me a full refund.

Goldcar is big time cheating and lying

I don´t understand this company is still in operation. They cheat and steal! I would give zero stars if possible. They have de facto cheated me twice on the same car. First we rented a car via Ryanair. It says on the voucher that taxes and insurance are included. We paid 550€ for a little Fiat Panda for 10 days, so we believed that. On pick up Goldcar said that Ryanair was to blame; Taxes and insurance was not included and that we had to pay 200€ for that! PLUS a deposit on 131€ - that they charged from the card. What could we do. We paid up. Secondly, upon return we received at certificate that the car had not been damaged or anything while we had it. And then a couple of weeks later they transferred 15€ of the deposit! No explanation, no nothing! Andf they are impossible to get in contact with! So we have so far paid around 866€ for a little old fiat where the transmission and clutch was totally wrecked.
NEVER EVER RENT A CAR AT GOLDCAR!

Do not rent a car from Goldcar

Do not rent a car from Goldcar! Scammers and Thieves!
This is my compaint I sent one week ago! Until now any feedback!

This is my first and immediately quite bad experience with Goldcar. I rented a car from April 17-23, 2022 through the DoYouSpain website. On 20-04-2022 I thought it would be a nice day at the beach in the vicinity of Puerto Rico on Gran Canaria.
After returning to the car 2807LBY, around 11 am, the car stopped working. The battery was empty! The calling, waiting in the hot sun on a dirty dusty terrain, stress, long waiting times on the Goldcar phone line, extra telephone costs incurred. Finally helped by the Highway car help. The guy told me I have to drive back to Goldcar at the LPA airport.

While waiting for the help-car , I noticed that the front tires were as good as worn with some holes here and there! For Dutch standards, a life-threatening car!!!

At Goldcar at the airport I got another white Fiat 4810KPR. Another broken car! In this case the car key did not work! I couldn't even open the car! And then the enormous damage in terms of scratches on the sides and the back. Then I went back already very angry.

The Goldcar employees were already starting to get nervous. Finally got a third key from Renault Clio 7003LBM. I had to find the car under the number 240. That number didn't exist, so I returned! Then it was number 40. At 40 there was no car that looked like Renault Clio! Third attempt number 24, my car was there!

Day number two, Renault Clio, the oil light started to flashing!
My conclusion! After three days of use the Fiat, the car was no longer usable. I lost 6 hours of my vacation time! I made extra phone costs! It's outrageous what horrible broken and dangerous cars your Company rent to European clients!

I am working as a travel agent in the Netherlands for 30 years and I have a lot of good experiences with other rental companies, with Sunny Cars in particular. What I've been through with Goldcar is, to say at least, outrageous!

I would therefore like to submit a complaint and I expect a suitable financial solution from Goldcar!
------------------------------------------------------------
Next e-mail I sent!
I just checked my credit card overview and was shocked by what has been charged, without any explanation! I paid € 113.75 for the car rental via DoYouSpain on April 11th. The overview stated that I will pay something of € 10.00 on the spot. Due to the empty battery in the Fiat I could not refuel, the car was returned with 1/4 full tank! For refueling, according to my calculations, 1 liter / € 1.39 comes to about 30.00 euros. How dare you write off the other amounts and for what? I demand an immediate explanation and a response to my complaint!

You should avoid this company if…

You should avoid this company if possible. They will trick you out of money at every step. They advertise low enough prices to come up on searches. However they will catch you with technicalities. Even if you chose insurance when booking online, at the desk they up sell you another couple of hundred euros, or they take a huge deposit which they will keep for the slightest scratch. When I returned the car with a full tank, they still charged a tiny petrol fee with a huge admin ransom fee. They’re dishonest and not to be trusted.

Absolutely appalling

Not very friendly on arrival, charged us extra money for "tax purposes" despite being told that all additional fees had been paid in advance by our travel company. The car was in a dreadful state, full of scratches, bumps and dents. On return, we were fined for more scratches and dents which we are certain were on the car before. We drove carefully and didn't have any bumps and yet we still got fined. Do not recommend this company at all, do yourself a favour, pay a little extra and go with Europcar.

Beware of Goldcar spain especially the office by the bus station Malaga

Whilst in Spain I hired a car from Goldcar at their Malaga Bus Station office on the 13th Feb via the internet with “Doyouspain”. In booking the car I also took out the insurance offered The “platinum excess Waver” policy no DYS7152156.This promised me “greater piece of mind” but it turned out to be none of that. On collecting the car at this Malaga office the guy dealing with me ( only person in the office) spoke little English and my Spanish is not good but we got the jist of what we saying. After taking my details , policy no 21424425, he told me that I had to take their insurance of around 100e. I pointed out that I had paid for this with my booking but he proceeded to tell me that was not sufficient cover! We had a heated debate but I did not have time to go to another company so I relented and paid it. I am 76 yrs old and I was mad and upset by this encounter. After paying it I asked that this would be refunded at the end of the rental to which he replied no! He then told me , and only then, that if I wanted that service I could have paid 1100e as cover which would have been refunded. So I then thought that I had got him to change it, in my upset state , as he went back to do more paperwork before giving me all the documents. I stupidly, but again in my muddled mind, left the office without reading these documents! It was that evening I read them and I could see that they were not changed? On returning the car, with no car damage, he was not in the office and the lady there listened to my complaint and told me I had to write to customer services for which she gave me their email address. This I did but I eventually got a reply from a Patricia and all it did was explain the details of my payment for their insurance policy. It ignored completely my complaint. I wrote back telling her that she had missed the point but it is now the end of March and I have had no reply!! I will never use this company again but an expensive mistake!

We rented a car from Antalya Turkey

We rented a car from Antalya Turkey. Worker Ercan claimed that I need international driving licence. Rental and turkish police do not accept EU driving licence, he claimed. But he could give a car if we pay 35 euros extra and take extra insurance. I told that we have full insurance via autoeurope and I know that he lie to us. I told that I will solve truth. Anyway I paid it that I got car. Never rent via Goldcar again. Do not claim that it was missunderstanding. My daughter was with me and she study in highscool in english. She can prov if need.

50€ charge if you don't fill the tank up + petrol.

Be very careful to bring the tank back full, I was missing just 1/4 and they charged me a 50€ fine and the cost of the petrol on top, this is a total scam and dishonest. I understand a charge extra but 50€!!!
Things happen and no one reads the pages of T&C. Customer service do not answer the request form filled in on line so dont waste your time.
The guy at the desk at airport (where we do paperwork) was extremely nice and kind, I had an issue with my CC but he was so understanding, top marks to this person.
So when i went to pick up the car i mistakenly went to the drop off and I went into the little office there, a girl (sorry I need to describe her, coloured with long bob marly plaits) she came alone and was EXTREMLY rude and with an aggressive attitude, very condescending and as if I was a criminal breaking into the office. She spoke 0 English which I think is very bad for an airport like Lisbon where so many tourists arrive. A person like this should have nothing to do with the tourism industry, I felt like crying after as she really was so rude. I went upstairs and the guy at pick up was very nice, spoke English very well as it should be. I had issues finding the car but he helped me. When I checked the car it had a huge scratch on the left side, I don’t know how they missed that and some other smaller issues. The guy resent me the form with damage after by email. The drop off was fine, despite lots of cars the staff managed it very well. The guy that checked my car was very nice and spoke English as well. I was so worried that other person that was so rude would be there, seriously she was the negative point of my gold car hiring ☹ I would say pay more to get better service and after service.

Avoid Goldcar Gran Canaria

Hired a car from Gran Canaria - lots of damage not listed on check out sheet I took pictures luckily. Aircon didn't work and neither did the key fob. I wish I'd read the reviews first - they're true.

Absolutely horrendous company

Absolutely horrendous company! Gave me a car which windows didn’t work, changed it out to another car to which the clutch was gone, I paid an upgrade fee to get a bigger car every time they changed the car out it got downgraded. Returned the car back with a full tank had only done 64km in total. They tried charging for a full tank of fuel plus penalty, return for late checkout when the car was returned early and car seat charge for not being returned even though the checkout picture they sent with invoice showed the car seat in the back! Luckily I was still in the country so went to the airport to resolve! Go with one of the major providers because these are a bunch of crooks!

Worst Car Rental in 20+ Years experience

Currently in Gran Canaria with a car one day into hire with a completely flat battery. They could not find my booking on their PC when l arrived and the car was filthy dirty when l collected it. I would have complained to the garage staff, but there were non, all locked up and gone home at gone 8pm. Now we are 30km from airport unable to start Clio with electronic ignition and we are told by the recovery breakdown that we will have to pay €130 to get it started to drive it back to airport to swap it. Their Customer Service team are in Spain, you are unable to speak to LPA customer desk despite 6 transferred calls, it just rings out till it cuts off. So after driving all the way back to the airport 32kms away l may not get a replacement vehicle. I have never encountered a worse company in my 20+ years of renting vehicles. Please do not use them EVER!

A smooth rental experience at Tenerife…

A smooth rental experience at Tenerife south airport. The clerk was polite, spoke good English and didn't try to sell me any extras. Insurance was already included in the cheap price they offered. Also I received a higher class car than I paid for because the cheap ones were all rented out.
Upon returning the car, the check was very quick and nothing extra was charged.

They returned the fuel deposit immediately, I could see it on my bank account the following day.

BEWARE!!!

BEWARE!!!!
They will steal 175 EURO insurrance from you in addition to what you where charged via the booking. I payed for both rental and insurrance when booking and voucher NEVER stated that I would be force to pay 175 EURO OR a 1000 Euro deposit at collection of the car. Even though I showed the sales clerk the insurrance police i signed with AXA, he refused to hand over the car, if not chosing one of the options above. ( was affraid to lay a 1000 Euro, so I saw no other way than to pay up for insurrancer:-( )
