DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS BRAND
Very disappointed by their customer service. The swimwear arrived in 4 weeks after stating “express” delivery and smelled of cigarette smoke and were terrible quality. I also had ordered them in advance for a trip and they never arrived in time. Return policy was terrible and I had to pay $26 for the return with sales telling me to lie on the customs document to avoid customs costs. I received the items on March 31 2026 and I returned them April 2 2026.
I had to keep chasing them to see what had happened - no one responded to my emails to inquire where my products were. I kept e-mailing and received a response “my products were delivered on March 31 and it was a DHL issue” - however this was when they were delivered to ME and I had an e-mail chain returning the items on April 2 2026. They acted like the e-mails outlining how to return the items including photographs of the package and the $26 I paid to return them had never occurred and refused to send new products - even though the same e-mail stating the products were delivered was on the same chain outlining the return and exchange.
Would not recommend to purchase from this company as I haven’t even received any new goods or explanation and I honestly think they are a scam company.

First, we want to clarify that we take product quality and customer experience very seriously. All Makara Wear pieces are produced in small batches in Bali using premium regenerated materials, and it is not in line with our standards for any item to arrive with an odor or in unsatisfactory condition. This is something we would have immediately investigated and resolved had we been given the opportunity with clear confirmation upon delivery.
Regarding shipping — while we offer express dispatch, delivery timelines can occasionally be affected by external courier factors such as DHL processing, customs clearance, or local handling. Once a parcel is handed over to DHL, these steps are unfortunately outside of our direct control, though we always assist in tracking and communication where possible.
We can confirm that:
Your parcel was marked as delivered on March 31, 2026
A return request was initiated on April 2, 2026
As per our policy, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer, which is standard for international orders. However, we do not advise or support providing incorrect information on customs declarations, and we take this claim seriously.
From our side, we did not receive the returned parcel back into our warehouse system, which is required before processing any exchange or replacement. Without physical receipt of the returned items, we are unable to issue new products — this is a standard procedure to protect both parties.
We also want to address the concern about communication. We aim to respond to all inquiries within 24–48 hours, and we regret if there was any delay or misalignment in correspondence — that’s not the experience we want anyone to have.
We would still like to resolve this properly.

Order did not ship on time, company refused cancellation
I ordered from Makara a number of years ago without problems and enjoyed their swimsuits. I ordered again recently, but had a terrible experience. I paid for express shipping on a relatively large order and had an order confirmation email that said express shipping takes 3 - 10 days. After 17 days of not hearing anything, I contacted the company and they told me they are restocking and the order will ship in a few days. As the order was for upcoming travel and would not arrive in time, I replied the same day to say I need to cancel the order. The company ignored my email and shipped the order a couple of days later. Again, I promptly emailed back to say I cannot accept the order as I will be travelling and to cancel it. They refused and asked me to deal directly with DHL. I then cancelled the order with DHL and got a written confirmation from DHL that they will arrange for the goods to be returned to the seller. I shared this confirmation with the company, and they said they will refund me minus the customs return costs once they receive the goods back. After again not hearing again, I asked the company for an update and they told me they never heard from DHL and that the goods were destroyed. I contacted DHL again and they told me they attempted to contact seller via DHL Indonesia but that DHL Indonesia never got a response from them and that they have an automatic order from the seller to destroy the goods. I again informed Makara about this and they maintain they never heard from DHL and do not have this automatic order in place. Looking at other reviews, this is not an isolated incident. This is my first review, but I felt it is my responsibility as a consumer to share my experience with others.

To clarify, your order was placed with express shipping, however the selected items were temporarily out of stock and required restocking before dispatch. As stated in our policies, shipping timeframes apply once the order has been processed and dispatched, not during restocking periods.
We understand your request to cancel due to travel timing. However, your cancellation request was received after the order had already been prepared for shipment. At that stage, it is no longer possible to cancel, as the process is already in motion.
Regarding the return, once a shipment is handed over to DHL, all return handling and communication is managed directly through the courier. In this case, we did not receive confirmation from DHL Indonesia about a successful return back to our warehouse. Without physical receipt of the goods, we are unable to proceed with a refund.
We want to emphasize that we do not benefit in any way from parcels being destroyed, and we do not issue such instructions as part of our standard operations.
We understand how frustrating this situation is, especially with time-sensitive travel, and we genuinely regret that the experience did not meet your expectations.

BEWARE DO NoT ORDER I ordered a swim suit my wife saw on The 71 Percent from Makara. Now 3 weeks later I’m being called and text from DHL that I need to pay unpaid duties and shipping fees for the bathing suit costing as much as the suit. At first I thought it was a scam. Then I tracked my order given the information from Makara and can see on DHL that there are unpaid duties. These extra fees are not mentioned or posted in the order process. Had I been advised of these extra fees I would not have made the purchase.
Makara customer service has gone silent. So I will have to dispute with credit card company. BEWARE
Then just refund my money and you deal with DHL.

They don't care about customer satisfaction
I was hesitant to order anything because they don't display the swimwear sizes their models wear. I sent a message to their instagram asking for size inclusive images and they sent a reel of one larger model, when their entire social media presence is only of very slim women.
I proceeded to make an order as I found a coupon code on social media. They charge $19 for "3-5 business day" shipping. The day after the purchase I got an email with an even better promo offer. I immediately emailed them asking to cancel the previous order (the item had not been processed or shipped yet), explaining I'd like to take advantage of the offer. They sent a reply a day later saying their cancellation fee is $30! I have never heard of anything like this in my entire life! Now I'm stuck waiting for an order and I did reply to them that if this is how they treat their customers I'm very scared if the swimsuit doesn't fit (you have to return within two days of receiving the item, and pay for the shipping yourself, plus insure the item because if they don't receive it you won't get your money back).
Bad customer service, terrible sale terms. If you order something and aren't happy, you end up losing money. Mind you, this isn't a cheap brand either. You'd think they'd care about customer satisfaction but they just want to make the money.

Wrong sizing - refusing return
I emailed their customer service to double check the sizing as the size guide overlaps. They confirmed which size but they were wrong. They then refused to allow me to return the item due to a promo code on shipping which cannot be removed. And to be fair, an order over $400 should qualify for free shipping anyway. This is how they make their money, making unethical sales.

Dodgy reasons for not allowing returns
There’s always a catch as to why they will not allow you to return an item which doesn’t fit. These swimmers are not cheap, make sure you know your exact size otherwise you will be out of pocket for swimwear you will never wear.
