I’m extremely disappointed with my experience — I purchased an item from their online shop and have been waiting over three weeks for delivery, with no clear communication unless I repeatedly follow up by email. Online shopping is meant to be convenient, but this has been a complete nightmare. Phone support was unhelpful, the call got cut off, and the background noise on the support line was so loud with people laughing and chatting that I could barely hear the operator. Overall, very poor communication, unprofessional customer service, and a frustrating shopping experience.
Terrible Makro-online service
Terrible, terrible, terrible service from Makro online. I ordered a standing mirror. Delivery date: 4 Feb 2026 - no delivery. When I phoned the FIRST time I was told the courier did not collect the parcel, but I will be kept up to date on the tracking of the order. NO communication for 5 days. When I phoned the SECOND time I was told there might be a stock issue but I will be contacted by a manager. Still I have had NO feedback of any sorts. They have absolutely no customer service . Never again!

In December, we purchased a gas stove for R28,000. The product description was unclear, and we were under the impression that it was a gas hob with an electric oven. When the stove was delivered two weeks later, we discovered that it was in fact a full gas stove, including a gas oven — which was not what we intended to purchase.
We immediately logged a return. The stove was collected from us, and since then we have had to call every single week just to get an update. There has been absolutely no proactive communication.
Chef’s Pride has refused to get involved, stating that they are a third party and have a trading agreement with Makro preventing them from engaging directly with customers. I was informed by Jason from Chef’s Pride that they are unable to provide feedback due to this agreement. That internal arrangement does not absolve either party of responsibility. The product carries the Chef’s Pride name, and Makro handled the sale — both brands are linked to this experience.
Today — mid-February — the very same stove was delivered back to us. After contacting Makro, we were told they “do not know” about the return and that it will be escalated again.
This is completely unacceptable.
We have been without resolution for nearly two months. There has been no accountability, no clear communication, and no urgency. The level of service is shocking and deeply disappointing.
What makes this even more concerning is the lack of transparency. There is no clear platform to leave a proper public review for Makro on Google, and public comments cannot be left on their Facebook page. That raises serious concerns about accountability.
Customers should not have to fight this hard for basic service, honesty, and resolution. I will never purchase from Makro again, and this entire experience has left a lasting negative impression.
Extremely disappointing experience
Extremely disappointing experience! wish I could give 0 stars if that were possible. The fan I purchased was not as advertised on Makro’s website. The listing showed a two-pack with specific blade and wattage details, but the product delivered was a different brand entirely, with damaged parts, incorrect wattage, and a manual that doesn’t even match the fan.
Important components mentioned in the instructions were missing, and the packaging looked as if random parts were put together just to work. To make matters worse, when I contacted customer service to request a return or exchange, the consultant laughed and implied it was my fault for ordering online.
This reflects poor quality control, misleading advertising, and unacceptable customer service. I expected far better from a company of this size.
Wrong item delivered twice
I was gifted a baby bouncer for my baby shower, the wrong one was delivered so we logged the return to swap for the right one,we did this online , for the second time the wrong one was delivered. We called makro for assistance and again told log online the return, there was nothing they could do . the reason for the call was to avoid the same issue happening again. It seems Makro sell products through third parties and do not have the information of the supplier to assist with resolutions. It is shocking feedback to be told by the company you purchased from that they cannot assist further when you have had the same issue twice and require more assistance. Both times the package was incorrectly labelled. Surely Makro would want to follow up with their suppliers to ensure items are being labelled correctly and that their clients do not receive the wrong things time and time again, seems not. The call centre agent was unable to help in besides saying log the return. We will do this again and hope for the best.

The second my payment went through, an error message came up on the screen to say there was a problem. I have now called them 5 times to get my refund, every time they make me jump through hoops, and still no refund.

Ridiculous service!
I ordered an office chair which showed in stock and that delivery would take 2 days. 2 days past and no delivery arrived. After emailing and enquiring, i got an email back to say the order was cancelled and refunded due to no stock.
Upon searching for the exact same chair again on Makro Online, i saw the price went up by R1500 too, so im thinking they make a mistake on the price and hence cancelled and refunded my order!

Placed an order for a tv and was told it would be delivered on Saturday 24th January. After receiving no updates I called on Saturday and was told there was a problem with the supplier and handing over the tv but that the matter would be escalated. Called again on the 26th and was told the exact same thing. This is extremely disappointing as the delivery was supposed to happen on Saturday already. I received an SMS confirming delivery of my fridge at 8:00 am today. At 8:30I called the driver to ask for an update and was told he would arrive in “less than 30 minutes.” By 9:00, with no further communication, I called again—only to be informed that he was still in Olifantsfontein, Johannesburg, at least an hour away from my location.
This level of poor planning and communication is unacceptable. In a market where delivery services like Checkers Sixty60 and Takealot operate efficiently and transparently, Makro is clearly falling far behind. If this is the standard of service, it is difficult to see how they expect to remain competitive.
Disappointing Product and Worse Support
I am extremely disappointed in Makro’s handling of a faulty JustSimplified Motorized Treadmill. The unit consistently throws Error E08 and shuts down after 20 to 25 minutes of use, making it unfit for purpose.
I followed the official return process and explained clearly how a prolonged return or refund cycle would negatively impact my daily life and work. Despite this, the response I received was a generic copy-paste message that showed no understanding of my complaint and no escalation to management or the supplier.
The response even included irrelevant template instructions that did not apply to my case, confirming that my complaint was not properly reviewed.
“Customer care” should involve care for the customer as a human being, not just process enforcement. I requested direct supplier engagement and a practical resolution. None was provided.
At this point, the treadmill continues to fail, my time is wasted, and Makro has shown no accountability for the products supplied under their name.
I cannot recommend purchasing this product or relying on Makro’s after-sales support if something goes wrong.

I ordered a gift online after being told it would be delivered on 21 January. The moment payment went through, the delivery date changed to 23 January, which does not work as we leave for Durban on the 22nd. The original delivery date was the reason for the purchase.
I have called the contact centre multiple times and the agents were completely unhelpful and dismissive. I asked three times to speak to a supervisor and was refused every time. I have also sent three emails and only received automated responses — no one has taken ownership of this issue.
This level of service is pathetic and unacceptable. I would strongly caution others before ordering online from this company.
