I am very much disappointed in Makro

I am very much disappointed in Makro. I ordered a 210cm Christmas Tree and I received a 180cm.. I called Makro enquiry and all they could say is that “That is not our tree, we are not allowed to exchange but just refund.” Doesn’t Makro check if their suppliers delivers correct items?!

This is not the first time even. Makro is very disappointing.

Dissapointing and possibly iilegal no exchange policy

Makro is a very well established retailer in South Africa. Disappointingly, this has not stopped them from engaging in anti-consumer business practices. I ordered a couch from the Makro online store at a discount. Makro then delivered the wrong couch. I informed them of this as soon as I found out. The customer support agents told me that I need to log a return to receive a refund. I informed them that this is not a sufficient remedy as it does not allow me to benefit from the original deal that was advertised to me. The customer support told me to just log a return and pay the difference to order the same couch again (which was now R 6000.00 more). This is absurd. You can certainly get a good deal from the Makro online store but there is no guarantee that you will receive the item you ordered and there is certainly no guarantee that Makro will offer a sufficient remedy.

Broken products resold

I bought a fan online from Makro for a gift exchange at work for our Christmas Party.
When the package arrived at work the box looked like it was opened and resealed, I reported the issue to Makro and there courier company The Courier Guy via there online service review. I wrapped the gift and gave it to my colleague at work, the next day I learned that there was no screws in the package to attach the blade or the stand to the base. I thereafter contact Makro and they advised me to return the product via there online returns portal. My colleague had brought the fan back to the office so I could get it returned upon looking at the condition of the product received I was absolutely disgusted at condition of the fan. There are 2 bases, the grill has no emblem, the motor has scratches, the bottom of the stand is bent and the is no fittings supplied.
Makro has agreed to refund me the money spent. My concern is that Makro deals with unscrupulous online supplies which ends up wasting our time and money. Now I have to wait 2 to 4 days for the package to be fetched then a further 5 to 7 days to get my refund paid back to me as a loyal client of Makro for years it feel like they just care about there own bottom line and nothing about the customer, no apology or anything, very disappointing service from the countries biggest retailer.

The call center should be closed…

The call center should be closed because you get zero help as customer, if the call disconnects while the full of attitude call center agent attempts to help there's no effort to call back the client. Doug Jones should seriously consider doing a audit on the call center and how they communicate with their fulfillment department because the overall service is trash on a hot day.

Doesn't deserve a one-star paid for a product it's very quick to take my money on the 1st of December delivery was supposed to be the 11th of December no confirmation of payments received to me nothing until I complained on the 12th and I am still waiting I had to cancel my holiday to my family and now I'm going a game on Friday and guess what it is still not with me I will never buy from macro again

Payment taken multiple times, order never fulfilled

I attempted several times to buy a Hisense 75-inch TV from Makro Online between 11 and 16 December 2025. Each attempt followed the same pattern:

• My bank card was successfully charged
• The Makro website showed “Order not placed” or “Order pending – payment not confirmed”
• No order was ever confirmed or fulfilled
• Days later, Makro reversed the payment

This happened multiple times, including my most recent order placed on 16/12/25. My bank statements clearly show that the payments were authorised and settled. Makro later reversed them, which confirms the issue is not a bank or card failure, but a problem inside Makro’s own systems after payment is taken.

The issue is compounded by being repeatedly advised to place new orders. Each attempt resulted in further amounts being deducted from my bank account, with no corresponding order being fulfilled. While these payments were later reversed, this created a clear opportunity cost, as my funds were tied up for days at a time while I waited for refunds, limiting my ability to make alternative arrangements.

To rule out a payment issue, I used the same card successfully for another Makro order (Paper and a Printer which were delivered by 16/12/25). That order went through without issue.

Customer support repeatedly advised me to “place a new order”, which only resulted in further charges and reversals. I provided bank statements and even a bank confirmation letter, but the problem persisted. No manual intervention was applied to actually fulfil the order.

This TV was meant to be a Christmas gift and the repeated system failures caused unnecessary stress, delays and time wasted.

After reading other reviews, it’s clear this is not an isolated incident. The pattern of payment taken, order failing, and refunds issued later appears to be systemic.

Makro Online should not be advertising stock or accepting payment if their system cannot reliably complete orders, especially for high-value items.

THEY SCAMMED ME

I'M SCAMMED! This is honestly the most shameful company I've ever dealt with of this size. They didn't deliver my mattress and are NOT refunding me. Their customer support is using excuses for the last 2 months. It's honestly INSANE how a company this size can SCAM you. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't buy from these SCAMMERS!!!

I ordered an item online on the 4th of…

I ordered an item online on the 4th of November 2025. Followed up on the 15th of November which was the due date for delivery. On WhatsApp they told me to wait another 5 business days. Followed up again on the 31st of November. Item failed to ship and I will be refunded. Two weeks later still waiting for my refund

Ordered a Marco 24” suitcase that was…

Ordered a Marco 24” suitcase that was meant to be delivered on 10 December 2025. The suitcase was not delivered then after several emails and tweets to inquire as regards the progress of the order, Makro unilaterally cancelled my order due to supplier issues yet the items are still advertised on the website. Makro is a scam! NEVER ORDER FROM MAKRO! They won’t deliver and who knows when you’ll get your money back?

I (still) should have read the reviews first…

Since my review below on 13/11/2015 I recently dscovered that Makro refunded me on 30/11 - I never picked it up on my credit card.
I must therefor appologise for hammering them on their slow refunding.
HOWEVER - my critisism regarding their poor quality control over online advertised products - of 3rd parties - remains.

I should have read the reviews first before ordering the aircon!! - same as so many other reviews!!
I saw a Makro advert for an aircon at a VERY good price (asuming an aircon can heat up & cool down) - in hindsight TOO good to be true. I ordered it & paid by credit card.
While waiting for delivery, I by chance saw a youtube video where someone complained about a similar aircon, which turned out to be only a heater.
I then phoned Makro, asking about the ad, the heater & the video refering to the same "aircon". The lady confirmed that Makro's adverts are reliable.
When delivered, no surprise, it was the fake video heater.
I immediately requested a refund.
When complaining about the above history, they told me that it is a "3rd-party advert - they have no control over the quality! (so much for the good name of Macro)
The "heater" was picked up within 2 days.
But the refund is still outstanding after a month of numerous calls.
In the meantime my credit card has been compromised & I now keep it "closed" & only "open" it when I need it - so I contacted Makro again & explain my problem. They only confirmed my money "is on its way" & they cannot make a refund any other way but to my (closed) credit card. Not even buying something else at their store, against a credit.
So, a good name has been ruined.

I checked just now - the ad is still on their website:
"Generic 12000 BTU (2 in 1 Portable Wall Mount Air conditioner) Du..."
Can you believe it!!??

Makro

Makro, this is honestly unacceptable.

I placed an online order specifically because the colour of the welding face shield I wanted wasn’t available in-store. What did I get? A completely different colour — with zero communication or confirmation from Makro.

To make things worse, customer service can’t assist, doesn’t seem to know anything, and the branch that fulfilled the order (Makro Riversands) won’t even pick up the phone. I’ve now wasted 25 minutes on hold, being transferred around, with no one actually answering.

I also sent an email and got no real feedback or assistance.

This is supposed to be a Christmas gift, and the entire experience has been nothing but disappointing.

I purchased a washing machine from…

I purchased a washing machine from Makro online on 25 November, and the delivery was scheduled for 1 December. I never received my order. When I contacted Makro, I was told the delivery vehicle had been hijacked.

Since then, I have been trying to get a refund, but today is 11 December and I still have not received my money back. Their communication is extremely poor — they don’t update you, they don’t answer your questions, and they don’t give a clear timeline on when you will be refunded. Each time you ask “When will I get my refund?” they have no straight answer.

If you are considering buying from Makro online, please think twice. The service is very bad, the communication is even worse, and getting help or answers is almost impossible. I am very disappointed with this experience.

Makro doesn't even deserve the one star. Not only are their staff incompetent there is zero service, staff are rude I'm not sure if they pick someone with zero education to work at their call centres but my 6 year old will do a better job. They don't respond to emails their call centre agents should not be answering phones nevermind trying to resolve queries.

Don’t do it

Ordered an item. Wrong item came (and late). Then a nightmare to try and sort it out. Customer service never responded to calls or emails. I would never order from Makro again and I should have first read the reviews. It’s really bad.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my recent dishwasher purchase and delivery experience.
Order Issue Summary:

The dishwasher was delivered on 6 December in a severely compromised state. The packaging was wet, the polystyrene was broken, and upon inspection, the machine itself was damaged.
The unit arrived without its box, transported on an open bakkie with no protective covering, and handled unprofessionally by individuals who did not appear to be Makro staff.

Delivery Timeline & Concerns:

Tuesday: I received a call from Driver stating he could not deliver due to traffic fines preventing estate access. He promised delivery the next day, which did not happen.
4 December: Expected delivery date – no delivery occurred. After calling Makro Online, I was assured it would arrive later that day, but it did not.
5 December: I called again and was told someone would call me back, which never happened. Four hours later, I called again and was told, “We will give you a refund.” I made it clear I want the dishwasher I purchased, not a refund.
I was then given the new driver’s number. He also could not enter the estate due to fines and promised to call before arrival, which never happened.
6 December: After multiple calls (over 10 times), the dishwasher was finally delivered at 15:00 in the unacceptable condition described above.
