A little frustrated at this, I chose it over the likes of hertz etc. as previously here in Malaga was “forced” by Goldcar that my own insurance could not be used

Disappointed at the lack of “no haste, no hard sales”

I have been using Malagacar hire company for over 12 years now and can fully recommend and endorse them. Whilst they are a short bus ride away I have never waited more than 10 mins for a bus to arrive and it’s a 3 min journey to the office. In the last 4 years, I have always been served quickly on arrival as they ask for you details beforehand to pre-assign the cars. Never had any issue with post-return damages or excess charges that other local firms are famous for! Malagacar hire staff are all very friendly and approachable by phone and as a regular guest after 20 hires me and my guest get 20% off all rentals which is great. They are not the cheapest but the service and support is faultless.

We used to use this company many years ago with no problems and decided this June to go with them again. BIG MISTAKE. We did not take out their excess insurance as we have our own so on return of the car they said there was damage to the drivers side door key hole. (Who uses keys to open car doors these days?) The man at Niza immediately said that will cost 390 euros without even looking at their price list. We had to pay up as they had held 1000 euros on the credit card, luckily our excess4carhire (Who we highly recommend) paid up with no quibble, We also informed them that we thought Niza were acting in an underhand way and they said it happens a lot and if they get many claims from one particular car hire company they would investigate, so beware Niza Cars. Never again and we would advise people to use any other car hire company apart from Niza, absolute rip-off company.

Less than half a gallon of fuel, no map, and sat nav which failed (quickly replaced but holiday time and fuel wasted) all made for a thoroughly disappointing return visit to this otherwise efficient car hire business.
Airport collection and delivery procedures are well oiled and work well. Cars are good but mine could have been cleaner inside.

Look no further, these guys are great. When we arrived they took us with a mini bus to their office 2 mins from the airport. As we were last of the mini bus I thought, here we go, we will be waiting for ages to be served! But to my surprise they had enough staff to serve everyone at the same time. This was really nice because it was 3 am. The car was a Nissan qashqai and it was clean and brand new. We took the premium insurance and it was exactly how they sold it. Fortunately we did not need to use the insurance but it was nice to have piece of mind that the excess was covered should something of happened. I would highly recommend these guys for a no hassle, quick and efficient service, unlike the Hertz customers who were probably still waiting inline at the airport by the time we reached our destination.

Great experience dealing with Malaga Car hire (Aug 2017). Details taken very efficiently,did not take their excess insurance and that was no problem. From arriving to driving away took approx 15 mins, Car was clean and new with no damage, everything in the vehicle was in good working order. Dropping off was even quicker drove into their garage was greeted by a member of staff who showed us were to park she checked the fuel gauge and directed us to the waiting transport to the terminal, really made our holiday. Staff - very efficient and friendly, Car - Clean undamaged and in good working order. Transport to \ from Terminal - Regular and efficient. Group - Family of 5. Would i use Malaga Car hire again - Yes without doubt. Would i recommend to a friend - Yes I most certainly would.

Great amazing company and the best in Malaga!!! I have travelled so much and this company is the best. They are nice, honest, sweet people. The prices are the best by far and there are no surprises!!

Malagacarhire.com (not malagacars.com) costs seem a lot lower than other companies. They use a local agent (NIZA). They charge a lot for extra insurance. If you don't take it up, beware because there is a risk you might be charged a lot for a scratch or dent, even if you are 100% sure you did not cause it.

OUR EXPERIENCE: we have a separate collision damage insurance policy - just £30 annual cost (see moneysavingexpert). We therefore declined the upgrade to NIZA's insurance.
However behind the desk there is a massive board with the list of charges they will make for various dents/scratches/issues which go up into the 1000+ euros.
Our car was covered in dents and scratches. The inventory listed over a dozen areas but carefully did not specify what the issues were or exactly where, so it was never going to be possible to agree what we caused or did not cause.
They took some pictures of the car. However in such bad light, they were sometimes blurred and often toned out due to glare from overhead lights that you could often not see any of the scratches!
I also tried to take some pictures.
During our hire I was extremely careful with the car and never made any dents. Moreover I hardly used it and it stayed in a slot at the hotel where I always reversed it in.
On return, they do a quick walk around the car and immediately decide there is a tiny crack in the rear light fitting - quite amazingly quick because at that point they'd not looked at their pictures. They then get across a whole load of other staff to confirm the breakage and look at their picture. It shows no breakage - but that is because of the blurredness and the light condition of that photo.
I have a picture of it which is slightly better (only taken on iphone though and does show some marks in the area of the crack.)
They totally refuse to use my picture and charge us for the dent. Despite arguing, it is clear we are never going to get our deposit back unless we pay up.
What was so cynical was they kept saying, you have insurance, just claim it of them and implying it does not matter to us.
We had to pay or we'd have missed our flight.

CONCLUSION: You can deduce what you like from this experience. If you decide to use Malagacarhiire, you might be advised to factor in the extra costs of buying their subcontractors extra insurance. That is a significant amount extra over and above that the quote you get from Malagacarhire.
