I contacted Maraj Spa one month in…
I contacted Maraj Spa one month in advance, explaining that I’m a blogger with 5–7 million views per video and that I wanted to collaborate and arrange something special for my mother’s birthday. Their team confirmed through WhatsApp, promised a great experience, and agreed to prepare everything in advance.
When we arrived, they completely ignored all of that. No birthday acknowledgment, no sign of preparation, and no one seemed aware of any previous conversation. The receptionists even claimed they didn’t remember speaking with me. When I showed them the WhatsApp messages, they brushed it off, saying they “can’t check messages right now.” send me an "ok" text on whatsapp so i can read it later. I was like huh ... and please look at photos below to see everything yourself
When I asked how much I’d be charged, they acted as if we were walk-in customers with no prior plan. They didn’t apologize once. Eventually, we had to re-select our package on the spot — and that’s when they suddenly said they only accept cash.
This was shocking, because I had messaged and emailed multiple times — including two hours before our visit — and nobody mentioned that this place only takes cash. When I questioned it, the receptionist said, “You never asked about payment method,” as if it was somehow my responsibility to guess that they’re cash-only. I had to walk two streets away to find an ATM, which is ridiculous for a place calling itself “luxury.”
After all that, we were charged around $350 USD for two people for what turned out to be a very basic traditional hammam.
Inside the hammam, it was even worse. The treatments were being done by two elderly women, probably in their 60s or 70s. They were kind, but clearly overworked and struggling physically — one almost slipped at one point, and I even saw a bit of my exfoliated skin get into her eye. It felt awful. Instead of relaxing, I felt guilty and uncomfortable, thinking about how unfairly these women were being treated by management.
Then came the massage. My therapist, Eni (if I remember correctly), worked very hard and did a good job. But my mom’s massage was done by another woman who barely put in effort and spent most of the time chatting in Arabic to someone else. It felt rushed, unprofessional, and careless.
And to make matters worse, there was no privacy or sense of calm. During both the hammam and the massage, random staff members kept opening the doors, as if to check on the rooms — supposedly to make sure nothing inappropriate was happening. But it completely ruined the atmosphere. Each time the door opened, cold air came in, breaking the warmth and relaxation. We were literally freezing at times, unable to rest or enjoy the experience at all.
Overall, this was the most disappointing and uncomfortable spa experience I’ve ever had. The management is disorganized, the staff are treated unfairly, and the service quality is nowhere near what’s promised online.
Maraj Spa needs a complete management overhaul — starting with replacing the unprofessional receptionists, properly training staff, and treating their workers with basic dignity.
I’ll be sharing a full video review soon across my social media platforms to make sure others don’t go through what we did.
FYI, I am not a hostile person, I tipped 100 MAD to both old ladies.
