McCabes Pharmacy group is a 100% Irish owned and operated chain of pharmacies and was founded in 1977 when Roy and Margaret McCabe returned home from Australia after emigrating 10 years earlier. They understood the need for a more complete healthcare solution, one that encompassed both traditional health care and dispensing along with new market leading services such as Cholesterol and blood pressure health checks. The group grew over the years with three of the four McCabes sisters all being involved in the business, involvement that continues to this day. McCabes Pharmacy group now operates over 30 stores nationwide and continues to be a pioneer in the Irish pharmacy market, offering the innovative products and exceptional service that Roy and Margaret founded the business on 40 years ago

Click & Collect seems to be scam

Ordered for Click&Collect on the 9th of Dec. On the 12th I emailed them asking if I could just go to the store and collect it. They replied pretty much straight away, which I thought it was great, saying the order had been dispatched on the 10th, that it should take 1-3 days to arrive to the store and to wait until contacted by the store. Even though the 12th was already in the 3 days timeframe, I decided to wait. Contacted them again on the 17th, 18th and 19th. No response any these times. So even though my order was supposedly dispatched on the 10th, today is the 19th and I haven't been contacted by the store. I definitely won't be ordering click&collect again and will most likely even try to avoid their stores.

Misleading deceptive sharp practice

⭐☆☆☆☆

Misleading Click & Collect – breach of consumer protection principles

I ordered a nebuliser for my wife after it was shown as “In Stock” and available via Click & Collect. This is a time-sensitive medical device, so I paid immediately and travelled from Navan to Blanchardstown in heavy Christmas traffic.

Only on arrival was I told the item was not physically in the store, and that “in stock” actually meant warehouse stock, with no collection until a later email.

This distinction is not clearly presented at checkout, where payment is taken. The website creates a misleading overall impression, which is precisely what Irish and EU consumer protection law prohibits under misleading commercial practices by omission.

To make matters worse, the order confirmation email simply states the order is “being prepared” and gives no warning not to travel, further reinforcing the assumption that collection was imminent.

For a pharmacy, this is unacceptable. In-store availability is material information, particularly for medical equipment, and it must be communicated clearly and prominently before purchase — not implied, diluted, or clarified only after the customer has paid and travelled.

This resulted in unnecessary travel, wasted time, and added stress while my wife was unwell.

I would strongly caution anyone relying on McCabes’ Click & Collect for urgent health items. “In stock” does not mean what you think it means.
I have since purchased a nebuliser from boots who do have a clear and concise click and collect policy where in stock means just that

Shauna- A brilliant Ambassador - GOREY WEXFORD MAINSTREET

I wanted to write a review regarding Shauna, who works upstairs in the chemist and looks after everyone who needs help with Fujifilm pictures.
Every Christmas I travel specifically to Shauna who helps me with all my thoughtful & Sentimental picture presents. Shauna has to be one of the nicest, patient, warmest people you can come across. Her professionalism is next to none. I asked for the manager to pass on the compliment in person the last day, however she was not working so I spoke with the Pharmacist, he said he would pass it on. I wanted to follow up online with this review because she is so deserving of the gesture. She is brilliant at what she does. There aren't many people like that left in the industry. Thanks again Shauna- Aoife Crowe

Good experience

Ordered a perfume from them and it was a lot cheaper than on other websites. Was delivered within 2 days which was great considering it’s so close to Christmas. No complaints and will definitely purchase from them again!

Service above and beyond

Service above and beyond. I visited Naas today to collect my prescription, as usual friendly service and everything as it should be. I mentioned I had had some difficulty getting on line to book my vaccinations. The pharmacist looked into this and then offered to do them their and then. Two birds with one stone, and fantastic customer service as always. Well done!

Unprofessional Service That Put My Health at Risk

I’m writing to share my experience at the Airside Swords McCabe’s Pharmacy regarding my Mounjaro prescription. I’d like to outline a few specific concerns:

Lack of Professional Boundaries:
My doctor and I agreed on a weight-loss plan and sent the prescription to McCabes Swords. When I went to collect it, the pharmacist kept insisting — in front of other customers — that I didn’t need to lose weight. It was humiliating and completely unprofessional.

Unprofessional and Intrusive Behaviour:
The pharmacist made inappropriate and intrusive comments in public. My doctor and I had already agreed on my treatment plan, and it was not her place to question it.

Overstepping Professional Role:
My treatment is a private matter between me and my doctor. The pharmacist should not challenge a valid prescription or offer unsolicited personal advice.

Uncomfortable and Judgmental Atmosphere:
The overall experience was very uncomfortable. The staff culture felt gossipy, nosy, and judgmental rather than professional, creating an unpleasant environment that made me feel disrespected.

I returned for another illness, but the pharmacy waited on clarification from my doctor and never informed me. I ended up in pain for three days with no update and no medication.

Poor customer sales support.

The McCabes pharmacy in the Crescent Co Limerick has incomepent staff who regularly fail to deliver on prescription items that have been ordered. They are not able to keep track of regular prescription orders and have no system to let customers know when an out of stock item is back in stock?
The Chemist (John) can normally sort out any issues but customers should not have to go to a higher level for basic tracking issues.

Will not be returning

Extremely unprofessional experience.
I specifically requested a particular medication brand and was assured over the phone that they would have it ready. When I came in the next day, not only was the medication not there, but nothing had been prepared at all.

This is now the third time they have made mistakes with my prescriptions. The explanation that they are ‘short-staffed’ is not acceptable when it comes to handling medications.

Completely shocking level of service. I will not be returning.

Awful customer service

I would just like to say I've found this company totally unacceptable when it comes to click and collect. They say 1 to 3 days, but I've waited over a week and still no product. 2 emails answered by ai so no human interaction and no answer as to when the product will be available.
I bought from mc cabes to support Irish company, i should have ordered from Amazon or any other place and at least had some come back. Sad to say if this is the standard of Irish companies then we are doomed. The only saving grace is the staff in store have always been helpful and friendly in the mountview store. They are the only reason I decided to try this service, but unfortunately the product had to be ordered through the site. So 0 for customer service and delivery satisfaction. I will never use this service again and totally unacceptable. Must do better in today's competitive environment.

McCabe Pharmacy (Nutgrove) Bad Customer Service

I recently had a very disappointing experience with McCabes Pharmacy in Nutgrove, and unfortunately the way their Complaints Department handled the issue, only made things worse.

The first visit involved my wife been sold a box of 100 needles instead of the four needles that she requested for a kwikpen prescription. She had not been told by any staff member that they can only sell a box of 100. When I called the store, I was told the box could be returned — only to be refused the refund in person, because the seal had been snipped to confirm the quantity. There was no signage or information indicating that opened items couldn’t be returned.

What made the situation far more frustrating was the attitude of the staff. I was effectively told that my wife had been informed she was buying a box of 100 — which simply wasn’t true — and the overall tone came across as dismissive and patronising. I was even told that I “would have been helped but won’t now because I was rude,” which felt unnecessary and unprofessional.

I escalated the issue to McCabes’ Complaints Department hoping for a fair review, but their response showed little understanding of the situation and completely overlooked the poor customer service I had experienced. Rather than addressing the behaviour of the staff or the mixed messages about returns, their reply felt defensive and dismissive — adding to the frustration instead of resolving it.

This whole experience has left me with very little confidence in McCabes’ customer care, both at store level and at head office. It’s not about the refund; it’s about how customers are spoken to, treated, and respected. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning.

The pharmacy at Knocklyon SuperValue is consistently terrible. What is the main service? Filling prescriptions, for the umpteenth time I order a script the day before collection, come at the allotted time, and they haven’t even filled it, I will change pharmacy now as it’s happening too often, brutal service

I ordered a bunch of cosmetics on Saturday, then checked the reviews here and started to worry I'd have problems with my order because the reviews were so bad. I received my order today. I received everything on time, and I found a significant discount on La Roche-Posay cosmetics, so I'm very happy and will definitely be back.

No one answers the phone in Newcastle. Im and Old age pensioner & to order my prescription I've to walk almost 2miles & as they can't dispence it then I've to walk the two miles home & then back again to collect it when all it takes is for someone to answer the phone in the shop. There is No point in ordering online either as the prescription is never right. This is a despicable service for the people of Newcastle Dublin.

My issue is the awful and negative attitude of the staff. Terrible customer service all round. So I took myself just a few doors down.....lovely staff and efficient service. No being told with a grumpy face to come back in 20 minutes, to the script still not being ready. Great that we all have a CHOICE 👍
