Job Market series

I attended Melanie's Job Market series. It was an excellent experience which helped me gain insights into several aspects of the job application process. I joined the series because I was not sure if I was preparing my applications well. At the end of the series I identified what could be improved and what needed to be done in other ways. I think my cover letters and CV look much better and present myself better than ever before. I would definitely recommend this series to all active in the academic job market, irrespective of their career stage.

I took part in the Academic Job Market…

I took part in the Academic Job Market Series and found it very helpful. It gave me a long needed overview of job markets in different European countries and gave me tools to position myself within them. I would recommend this series to everyone in the social sciences or humanities who is unsure about the academic job market and how to organise the application process.

The programme is a great way to improve…

The programme is a great way to improve your writing on various levels (planning your writing, managing the writing process, etc.). I really enjoyed the monthly planing sessions, as they helped me to reflect on the past month and, building on that, to plan for the next month, not only in terms of my writing but also in line with other private and professional commitments. Melanie's feedback is extremely valuable and helpful. The peer group aspect helps you realizing that you are not the only one facing these challenges. Before the programme I spent a lot of time writing without really achieving much. That has changed, I'm now writing much more goal focused. As a result, I’ve become much more confident again.

Building confidence and getting skills

The Job Market Series taught me to navigate the process confidently and strategically, while always thinking from the hiring committee's perspective. On top of that, I gained new writing skills through many small writing exercises for precisely conveying my experience and research.

Proposal Writing Private Session

I had the pleasure to work with Melanie on my proposal for a PhD scholarship application in summer 2025. She gave extensive feedback on my texts, which made our one-on-one sessions very intense and made me learn a lot about proposal writing. Melanie truly engaged with me and my text and gave me tailored feedback, which improved my proposal by 100%. She made me feel extremely well cared for and supported, especially during such a stressful application phase. THANK YOU! Truly recommended.

A great community for academic writers

The daily co-writing sessions are very useful, and a great way to introduce some structure and accountability to your writing schedule. Most importantly, there is a sense of community every time you log onto a zoom co-writing session, where you share your daily goals and struggles with other writers over and over again. In an overly competitive academic environment, and in the lonesome practice of writing, such a community is invaluable.

Being part of Melanie's co-writing…

Being part of Melanie's co-writing community has been invaluable to me over the past few months. This kind of community is essential for academics, as it offers a space to share experiences and support one another in tasks that we often have to manage alone. I truly appreciate having a place to connect with colleagues across Europe, where we can share our goals, hold each other accountable, stay motivated, and learn how to set realistic objectives and schedules. Melanie is not only incredibly professional and inspiring, but she also goes the extra mile to help us shift our mindsets, overcome imposter syndrome, and does it all with a positive, uplifting attitude.
