The Mica express team have been excellent through this entire process. They are courteous, professional and made the process easy to navigate. The results were explained in detail and the team took the time to rationalise the results to us. The results were back within the discussed period and all my expectations were correctly managed.

We hired Mica Express to test a house we had sale agreed on, but the inspection engineer noted some possible concerns. We felt it important to make sure the house was sound, as all our savings were going into the purchase. Core samples were taken in a timely manner, and results came back only a bit past the 9 week estimated window. Thankfully the results were good, and we were able to move ahead with the purchase. The report was very thorough, Kaine was in great communication during the entire process, and very informative. Cost of the test was also better than most of the other services we contacted.

There are not enough stars for a review of Mica Express. We had a house in Mayo which was nearly 20 years old and did not have any cracking. When we put the house on the market 3 years ago our buyers Engineer, despite the absence of cracking, recommended the house be tested for Pyrite, because he thought the blocks were the wrong colour!

When the results came back he could not give the house a clean bill of health because, I now believe, he did not understand the report. The buyers backed out and we were left with a potentially unsaleable house. We considered various options none of which were acceptable.

In February 2025 I stumbled across the Mica Express web site and was impressed by Kaine Lynch’s CV including the fact he was on the Irish Pyrite Register. These Engineers are experts in Pyrite. The previous Engineer was not on the Register.

I contacted Kaine and told him about the previous test results, he said from what I had told him he would probably not have condemned the house. I then commissioned Kaine to review the previous results and he confirmed that the house would probably be OK if he tested it again. The rest is history Kaine’s conclusions from the new tests was Negligible Risk. The house went on the market and sold in days.

When the testing was scheduled to be done Kaine loaded with a neighbour on the day. The repairs were done and no mess left behind.

Kaine kept us informed and explained everything throughout the process, and explained things so we could understand them.

If your house has been condemned by an Engineer, not on the Pyrite Register, and has no visible cracking, call Mica Express, Kaine may be able to help. If you just need your house testing call Mica Express for an excellent, value for money service.

I can't recommend Mica Express enough, a very professional company in every way .Got our house tested for defective blocks, nothing was a problem for them took samples repaired sample areas and got a very detailed result back within the estimated time quoted . As a Defective Concrete Block homeowner who had just demolished our house. I was delighted when Kaine proposed a package that would test both the new Concrete Foundations & blocks for all deleterious materials, as we were worried that we could fall victim to same lack of standards in quarries in Ireland (once bitten twice as shy).
After coring being completed (about a week after making the call), the cores (from the foundations and block stockpiles onsite) were readied for dispatch to the Lab.
Kaine was true to form regarding the results timeframe and a timely msg to say all was clear just before Bison slabs were due to be fitted left us feeling such relief.

One week later and a detailed Chartered Engineer & Geologist report was forwarded which scientifically confirmed that our house will be good for generations to come.
A phonecall was then arranged to discuss the report incase anything was unclear and this concludes a great experience for us as customers of MicaExpress.

I highly recommend Kaine no matter what your circumstances are re: testing for deleterious materials in concrete, A comprehensive & friendly service from start to finish.
