Cosy glazing and draught proofing
Fitted cosy glazing to our victorian cast iron diamond paned windows. The product is almost invisible from the inside. M&D also fitted draught proofing to the victorian oak front door, which has made a significant improvement to a once very draughty entrance hall. The installation team were fantastic, attention to detail and quality was exceptional. The team were in the house for 2 weeks but were very neat and tidy and self sufficient. The product is expensive but it is worth it. Only slight niggle was the scheduling system. We had expected, at time of deposit, to have the glazing installed by the end of 2022 but in the end it was March 2023. I did have to do some chasing but every contact with M&D was very helpful and professional. The scheduling problems were probably due to a surge in work as energy prices flew upwards. In summary, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
The house is an ancient Dartmoor…
The house is an ancient Dartmoor longhouse, and the windows were crooked and very weathered, and in a pretty bad state. They now look terrific, they open and close easily, the drafts are all gone and the secondary glazing is almost invisible.
We had struggled long and hard to find a way of improving the energy efficiency of an ancient house without destroying its character and were so relieved to find Mitchell & Dickinson's perfect solution.
The job was expensive but the quality of workmanship was top rate. Bret clearly took great delight in his work, did an excellent job and was really helpful and informative.
I do have a serious complaint, we placed our order and paid a hefty 50% deposit in April last year, expecting the work to be carried out in the Autumn. But alas, it was only carried out in March of this year.
Very high quality work and product and great installation team
We were extremely happy with the job Mitchell and Dickinson did. We shopped around and they were more expensive than some other companies, but they clearly offer a far better product and we are extremely happy with our choice. It took longer than I was originally expecting to fit the windows but clearly that reflected the quality of the craftsmanship and the commitment to ensure the secondary windows were the best fit possible. Luke, Zac and Jack - the installers - were lovely guys and it was no bother having them working in the house and they made the process as easy as possible. Thank you.
Excellent quality and service
These things are never cheap, but I could not be happier with the quality and service offered by Mitchell & Dickinson.
Team very pleasant and helpful
Team very pleasant and helpful, a good job well done. Our house instantly warmer
Excellent job
Excellent job
We have just had secondary glazing (CosyGlazing) fitted to six windows. We were slightly nervous that the new glazing would detract from the appearance of the existing windows (which are old wooden sash windows - great to look at, but hopeless when it comes to insulation!).
However, our fears were completely unfounded - from the outside it is impossible to tell we have secondary glazing, and even from the inside the windows still look good.
The team were also very friendly and tidy, and we had excellent communication from the head office.
Very happy with the result.
Very happy
Had M&D secondary glazing system (CozyGlasing) fitted to my house - our windows are huge 4m high, 1.6m wide, they are also awkward to reach (it's hard to get a internal tower close enough to the window due to obstacles) and are arched... but each arch is slightly different (the joys of old buildings and looser tolerances). All in all a bit of a pain in the backside of a job.
The 2 person team who did the install were friendly, tidy and have done a very neat job - they also had to lug their gear up and down the lane from the high street (due to parking limitations) and did this all without a grumble or complaint.
The buying process was similarly smooth, an initial visit to size up and confirm it could be done, showed me samples of the glazing system and talked through options. Was also offered a small discount by paying a 50% deposit in advance.
M&D were also good in accommodating various changes to installation date caused by my window restoration taking longer than planned (another company doing that work) and despite lengthy delays they honored the original price.
All in all I am very happy to recommend. The window system is great (very very minimal!), condensation pretty much eliminated, feels warmer already and it also does a decent job of noise reduction - albeit its pretty quiet where I live.
Thanks
We were delighted with the work…
We were delighted with the work undertaken at our cottage. Mitchell and Dickinson employees proved to be helpful, highly skilled and very pleasant to deal with.
Brilliant result and great service
Everyone was very helpful throughout. The workmen were friendly, considerate and helpful and their workmanship was excellent. The end result is brilliant. We can now sit near windows without freezing and unless you look carefully, you wouldn't know the additional glazing was there.
? The perfect company
Utterly professional company; did a wonderful job on our 200 year old sash windows which are now completely draft-proof and the internal glazing is virtually invisible. Kai and his team went so above and beyond, covering up everything, cleaning meticulously after they'd finished, and the quality of the work itself exceptional. The booking staff were also excellent, keeping us fully informed throughout. My only complaint would be that a company this good really ought to be expanding its remit to cover more home improvements - I would go back to them for other work in a heartbeat with this degree of professionalism and quality. Thankyou to the whole M&D team.
Excellent product and highly skilled installation
Josh and his team were very professional and creative when installing secondary glazing for our Edwardian Crittall windows with multiple leaded glass panes, requiring the construction of additional wooden frames to hold the acrylic panels in place where the cast iron handles on some of the casement windows protruded too much internally. They all worked in a polite and unobtrusive way until satisfied the job had been finished to a high standard and made sure no debris was left behind. Condensation problems ceased immediately and the house is now noticeably warmer.
Disappointing repairs
We had most of the windows in our flat secondary glazed and repaired over the summer. We chose Michell & Dickinson because they were able to do the work without scaffolding (we're on the second floor), they said they could repair the leaky window sill, and their reviews seemed promising. Overall though, we have been very disappointed with our experience with Mitchell & Dickinson.
The problems started as soon as we got back home (having moved out to make the work easier). Something had been dropped on a radiator under a window, resulting in a dented and leaking pipe and no boiler pressure. Mitchell & Dickinson reimbursed us for the costs of repairing the radiator pipe as well as plastering the wall that had to be cut into during the repairs, however, they did not let us know at the time of the damage and instead left it for us to discover when we got home. Then it rained, and we discovered that the leak in the window that we had specifically asked several times if it could be fixed had not been fixed, and was in fact worse than before. During both the initial quotation visit and the specification survey this leak had been pointed out and we had been assured (by two different people) that it would be fixed by replacing the window sill. After we discovered it was still leaking, Mitchell & Dickinson representatives said that replacing the window sill was not a guaranteed fix and that window leaks such as these are difficult to fix in general (note that this had not been said before the work began). They sent out someone to put in some more sealant, and we also asked them to fix a different window which had become progressively harder to open (they had added too much wood to the sides, which they then had to remove). Again, when we had the specification survey we highlighted that some of the windows swell in wet weather and were reassured that they'd made a note of that and assured us it would be taken into consideration during their work so it wouldn't be a problem going forward.
Unfortunately the window is still leaking, and we have given up on getting Mitchell & Dickinson to fix it - as one of them said over the phone, they are insulation experts, not window experts. The other repair work on the windows is patchy, made more obvious by the very white paint they used on the repaired areas that does not match the rest of the windows. There are some areas that were missed by the paintbrush, and some of the window catchments are rough and appear unfinished. The secondary glazing has been fine though, it has reduced the condensation issues and the flat seems less drafty. Overall though, we would not recommend Mitchell & Dickinson for window repairs. As they said themselves, they are insulation experts, not window experts, and this shows in our experience with them.
The double glazing product is great
The double glazing product is great. Unobtrusive and effective and you don't have to take it off to be able to open the windows.
The installation team were super. Helpful, efficient and very customer friendly.
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because their scheduling of the work needs improvement. We pencilled in a date for the work to be done 6 months in advance and M&D ended up starting about 7 weeks late. To be fair, once they started they didn't leave the job and we were very happy with the work they did and the back office staff were always very friendly and helped as much as they could.
Excellent response
Excellent response when we needed some new hardware and had also experienced a problem with one window. Super, professional customer service.
Excellent job
Delighted with the work carried out on my windows by Mitchell & Dickinson. The cottage immediately felt much less draughty and a lot cosier. It also felt considerably quieter. Will and Joe are a great team, always considerate towards us, they took care of the property, were punctual and genuinely happy to do a good job. Left everywhere spotless. Have already recommended M&D to friends who are now planning to have their windows done.
I cant recommend this company highly…
I cant recommend this company highly enough. We have an old listed house, with mullioned windows - no line is straight. One floor to ceiling arched window was particularly challenging because it had curved frame. Luke's craftmanship and attention to detail was exemplary - he took a real pleasure in doing the job to a very high standard. The Mitchell and Dickinson team were very helpful in correcting a problem at survey stage and while we had a long wait for them to do the work, it was more than worth it. This is a rare company which believes in what its doing - energy efficiency in old buildings. I am full of admiration for their high standards.
Very professional job, expert craftsmen
Very professional, cheerful craftsmen. They did a great job installing secondary glazing, and made a complex job very simple.
The long lead time (6 months) led to a few minor hiccups on the admin front but nothing that wasn’t put right.
great product but disappointing after-sale service
We had secondary glazing installed on all our windows and some internal doors back in March. We were very happy with the team and have noticed a significant difference this autumn in terms of noise and cold. Unfortunately we are having some problems now with one of the internal doors, and we have been trying to get a response from the Mitchell & Dickinson team for the past 5 weeks. After 4 emails, no one has yet come back to us to get it sorted. This is very disappointing, especially as we were told after installation that we could contact the team with any problem or question. We have also been helping the Sales team by showing our windows to prospective clients a few times as a favour.
Good experience so far…
Same team for me as the 3rd October reviewer: professional, hardworking and a pleasant experience.
I have large Georgian sashes (first floor Georgian terraced flat) and I would also echo the comments about the secondary glazing being unobtrusive. It was also the only product that I could find for large windows that allowed both sashes to open and could be fitted with working shutters in place. Not cheap, however I’m looking forward to there being considerably less heat loss through the large area of thin crown glass as we get into the winter months.
M&D - 30 Sash Windows
MandD refurbished, draught proofed and secondary glazed over 30 windows for us and a couple of doors. We chose M and D as wanted a single company that could do all the work and wanted the system where I can use the windows as intended i.e. the secondary glazing is fully integrated.
Very happy with the final product, the quality of the repair work, and glazing etc.
Considering we had many of their people on site for a number of months they were very easy to have around the house.
I have docked one star as initially our painting work was sub-contracted due to the size of the job. These decorators were simply not up to scratch. MandD removed from the job and did the work themselves. Final product good but it did mean our job overrun and a bit more hassle to hit the right standard but I would not let it put me off highly recommending to others.
