The scheme has been a hit with both staff and children, who have thoroughly enjoyed using it. Its vibrant and colorful design, along with memorable characters, has greatly contributed to the learners' advancements in reading and spelling. The program has boosted their confidence to try and make phonetic attempts. The reading materials effectively back the learning process. Additionally, the planning resources are extremely convenient, saving staff valuable time by providing ready-to-use lessons and materials.

Monster Phonics, worth buying.

We have now been using monster phonics for over 4 years. It is very multi sensory and we use the puppets to bring it all alive. There are always improvements being made and great activities being added all the time. The plans are very easy to follow and the lessons are fun and exciting. The phonic results have really improved using the scheme and the children love it. I would highly recommend it!

The children have taken to it brilliantly; they don't even know they are doing phonics - I call the lesson 'Monsters' to disguise it! It is interactive and exciting. They are fully committed to the characters.

Fantastic Multi sensory phonic programme that students and teachers love!

Monster phonics is relatively new compared to some phonics programmes but it is well thought out and based on current research. We use it as an intervention for our students who have struggled to make progress with other phonic programmes. It is very multi sensory and highly motivating with the link to monsters for each group of sounds. Students who used to dislike phonics have started to enjoy it again and actually enjoy coming to lessons. The programme is very reasonably priced and the company are very helpful with training and any issues you might have. They are constantly upgrading the programme based on customer feedback and I can highly recommend it.

Monster phonics is a great concept but…

Monster phonics is a great concept but is poorly executed. Unfortunately the scheme often doesn’t follow its own rules (an example being the word ‘put’ which it leaves all in black indicating you should pronounce it phonetically and therefore like ‘putt’). When I then have to ‘correct’ my son, despite him following the rule he has been taught perfectly, he then get frustrated. Unfortunately this isn’t an isolated example, the books are riddled with them. As I said, great concept, but it’s such a shame the people who wrote the books couldn’t follow their own rules.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! At Monster Phonics, we understand that regional accents and variations in pronunciation can make learning phonics more complex. Words like 'put', 'grass', and 'path' often highlight the differences between northern and southern pronunciations, particularly with short and long vowel sounds. For instance, 'put' in southern accents may use a vowel sound more similar to an 'a', while northern pronunciations tend to use a more familiar short vowel. We address this in our Common Exception Word flashcards, which provide both versions to support regional variations. However, in our reading books, we focus on showing one version for simplicity and consistency in the text.

We also provide clear guidance on Common Exception Words (often called ‘Red’ or ‘Tricky’ words in some programmes). These are words where the usual phonics rules don’t apply, such as 'put' or 'said', and they often contain GPCs that are rare or unique. Using colour coding, we make these words easier for children to learn and remember - helping them build confidence in reading and spelling. This approach is one of the many factors contributing to the significant improvement in results we see with Monster Phonics.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to explain how Monster Phonics supports children with these challenges. If you have any further questions or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

Kids love the stories and characters.

Kids love the stories and characters.
It would be great if the stories included an audio option so students could also listen to them. Also, after each story, there could be some comprehension questions with multiple options to click on.

We all absolutely love these products

We all absolutely love these products - Both Mummy and daughters. The colour coded letters make for easy recognition and my daughters have completely flourished with their sounds and reading. My oldest daughter is in Year 1 and has already finished all of the Level 10 books. I love the rhyming cards and play lots of games with my 4 year old. She absolutely loves them and none of them see it as 'learning' due to the cards being so colourful and fun. I would highly recommend these.

A great way to learn phonics!

Staff and children have both loved using this scheme. It is bright, colourful and the characters are memorable and have really helped support improvements made by the learners in both reading and spelling. It has increased their confidence to have a go and make phonetically plausible attempts. The reading books are great in supporting the learning. The planning really helps save staff time with all the lessons and resources readily available.

Great For Parents As Well As Kids

Learning monster phonics with my six year old daughter has taught me so much. She wants to be a teacher so loves telling me about all the different monsters and what they do. And the practise spelling test book is fun and educational to do together. I really like how the method empowers her to work out unknown words maybe not all the time but gives her a way to try at least and blend the words and give it a go.

Very poor on quality and description of the product

I received my order today, unfortunately the quality if the poster is very poor, there was a misunderstanding of number of books ordered, so I received 5 of each book, which I do not need as I am ordering as a parent, not for a class of pupils.

The price is very high for what I received.

You can get these on a pc/laptop but all my little one wanted to do was play games! After purchasing these books I noticed an immediate change in my son's reading literally!! Well worth the money and you can pass them on to help others after and maybe get a few pounds back.
