Contrary to the gushing blurb on the website, which claims that edible goods will be within their best-before date on arrival (although they may be fine to eat after that ...), every food item in my order was out of date on arrival, bar one - which although still in date, had clearly had issues with storage or packaging, as the contents were SO stale as to be entirely inedible, as were the out of date ones, not surprisingly. Unfortunately, Motatos doesn't allow returns once goods have been tried, so even if the customer was willing to test the theory not many would be willing to try, at their own expense.
Next, due to ludicrously inadequate packaging which had the sides but not the bottoms of glass-bottled drinks wrapped, these had been smashed in transit. I received a package which was soaked through and interspersed throughout with tiny glass shards which had gotten into the folds of packaging of the other goods.
I contacted Motatos customer service to report the issues, but did not receive a response until I emailed again. Was promised a refund, but not told how much it would be until I emailed AGAIN; heard nothing more for over a month until I again emailed and was told ... guess what? Someone had forgotten to process the refund. I did eventually get a refund, but it was an experience I will never repeat and it felt like a battle at every step of the way. I'm sorry, but cheery comments like "have a lovely day!" trivialise a serious complaint and don't make up for out of date, damaged goods and shoddy customer service. In all, it felt like the service was being run by a bunch of school leavers with no idea of what customers need, value or appreciate.

Thank you for your feedback. In order to combat food waste, Motatos sells food at a low price, some of which has an expiration date that has passed. 🗓 We are sorry that you did not know this before ordering 😢
In the vast majority of cases, this quality remains unchanged long after the best before date. So throwing these products away is a waste! 😢 As long as food is stored correctly and well sealed, it is edible even if the best-before date has passed.
On each of our product pages, the respective best before date is displayed before adding the product to the shopping cart.

ORDER FAILURE
Order placed 13th July did not arrive despite I itial E.ail confirmation of order Number and it had been sent to be packed and sent out. Received Email from an Advisor who said they'd look into what had gone wrong, only to receive no explanation but a PayPal refund. Not the best of experiences so I will not be attempting to order again after my 1st Initial attempt as been left disappointed.

Be very careful when shopping with this company
I was charged 9 times in my card for my shopping. Customer service could do anything, and bank stated the amount would be eventually returned to my account. Waited for my order to arrive as I paid for a faster delivery and it never came.
Customer services said they dispatched but dpd never collected the item. I said I really would like my shopping but they never offered to re send the item offering a quick refund.
Very suspicious
End of the day I was charged almost £390 for a order of 42.34£
Took one full week for the money to be back in my account, and no order ever arrived.

All round excellent service. Easy to order, quick delivery with constant check ins to confirm delivery. Very well packaged (although carriers managed to smash one jar of lime pickle in the current order! ) the whole experience is really top notch.

Dented tin of coffee
I don’t like food that is still edible going into landfill so motatos is one of 2 companies I use to do my bit.
My last order had a tin of coffee which I had ordered before and enjoyed. The tin in my last order was damaged but I didn’t make a complaint. However when I opened the tin the coffee was completely hard and unusable. The damaged tin was actually letting air in, not good considering the price.
I would like to see a bit more attention to detail by the picker/packer department so myself and other users don’t receive unusable goods.

Helping eliminate food waste as well as being great if you are on a budget
This wasn’t my first time ordering from motatos and the choice is usually superb. I have been able to try a lot of different products and condiments that I haven’t seen in the supermarkets and it is nice knowing that these are products which may very well have been wasted. It won’t be my last order from them.
