If I could give it a negative star
If I could give it a negative star - I WOULD! AVOID AVOID AVOID!! ..
The driveway work was unfinished and the site left in a hazardous state. I have a child with disabilities.
I have had to get another company to rectify and fix the numerous botched mistakes including Martin removing my SOAKWAY FOR NO REASON! damaging my front door etc..
He did not use a digger as I suggested, I told him on at least 3 occasions I have heavy clay soil and manual digging by his workman was going to take too long and be a very hard task, it took over 3 weeks to dig out less than 1ft of soil, and still not to the required level.. then Martin said towards the 3rd week ‘oh yes we should have used a digger’! So he completely ignored and never followed my instructions.
I work from home taking calls and one of the workmen he sent, kept arriving at the job hacking and spitting all over my front garden, so frequently I had to go out and tell him to stop doing so by my front door, I could literally see the phlegm on my stairs, stone wall and ornamental stones! as I take calls and could hear him, it was disgusting and so unprofessional and a health hazard I had to was the steps with bleach each time.
Martin requested cash upfront before the job started. (Should have been the 1st red flag).
I requested that Martin extend the job to use the same paving to level the path. Martin then requested another 1 1/2 thousand pounds for materials to do so, which I never received and he never completed.. or even start!
I tried to agree a resolution with Martin as he originally wrote in a text message the job for a new driveway would take 7-10 days.
By week 3 the soil still hadn’t been dug to the level needed. Martin was leaving rubbish in the road for days, instead of leaving clearing it on his van as he stated he would, the council came round to issue him a warning. I did suggest to Martin I would pay for a skip, his response? ‘Oh it’s ok, we’ve done this many times before’.. 😖
I tried to reach a resolution for the extended time of less than 10% off the total, to which Martin refused and refused to work anymore on the drive.
Martin and his workers collected their tools and left my front garden in a state along with a huge pile of soil, (as pictured) he was supposed to clear this as I paid him £1,000 the day before that he requested for labour including clearing the soil.
Another red flag was that Martin never accepted payment via debit card, it was always CASH, in the end the last few payments were via bank transfer!
Do not make the mistake I did and do this!
Martin in a text said he would reimburse me monies for materials I had paid for but never received a total of £1200, but he has never paid and I haven’t heard from him since.
I have now sought relevant legal advice.
I have no option but to take Martin and his company to court to recover monies lost and paid for upfront for materials that were never delivered or used
