Beware - wraps damage natural nails

I use cheap nail wraps from Amazon, which are easy to apply and remove, and thought I would treat myself to more “professional” ones. I got the Mylee ones and they applied exactly as the ones from Amazon and looked great; however, the removal was appalling. Despite using Mylee’s removal oil, my nails have been severely damaged by these wraps (this has never happened with the cheap Amazon ones). On some of my nails, the top layer of my natural nail has been removed. I followed exact instructions for application and removal. I now have been left with 2 pairs that I absolutely cannot use as I can’t risk further damage to the nail bed. I can’t comment on Mylee’s other products but there is no way I could recommend their wraps, due to the damage caused.

Thank you for your review. Using gel wraps and, if using the gel wrap remover oil, is one of the gentlest gel applications for your nails. Using just the gel wraps or remover oil wouldn't damage your nails. Usually, nail damage is down to improper application, overbuffing/overfiling the nails, and improper removal. Followed all of the nail prep…

Followed all of the nail prep instructions and each time the nail polish peels off in 3 hours max. AVOID!!

Mylee products are used with salon-professionals as well as home-users. There are several reasons that your gel polish may be peeling, and I've included these below. Please also feel free to reach out to us at info@mylee.co.uk where we can better assist.

If you are using a LED lamp you need to ensure you are curing the top/base coat for 1 minute and gel colours for 30 seconds and if you are using a UV lamp ensure you are curing for a full 2 mins under the UV.

The most frequent reason for gel polish lifting is due to the preparation of the nails before application. Do make sure your nails are cleansed before applying your base coat. Push back your cuticles and any dead skin on your nail bed. If you leave any dead skin on the nail bed by the cuticle, it will start softening with time and contact with water and will ultimately shed, making the gel polish lift by the cuticle. Avoid using oils or lotions on your nails before you start your manicure. Also avoid putting your hands in hot water before or after application, such as a warm shower or washing up, as this can cause your nails to expand and contract, causing gel polish to shift.

If you had the entire gel polish lift off the nail bed, it is most likely due to the technique of buffing the nail surface. Gel polish likes to cling onto a slightly rough surface on your nail bed, and buffing the nail provides this. Do make sure to lightly buff and roughen up your nail surface before application and cleanse to remove any dust. A smooth nail bed could cause polish not to adhere properly.

Always ensure you're applying your gel polish in thin layers. You can apply multiple layers to build up the opacity. If a coat of polish is applied too thickly it may not cure evenly, leading to bumps and lumps forming.

When it comes to actually painting your nails, it’s key to stay within your nail bed and not get any polish on the skin or let it pool by the cuticle or the side of the nail bed. If there is any polish that starts pooling, it will create an edge for the polish to lift.

If your gel polish started lifting from the tip of the nail, try capping the free edge of your nails to seal in your polish. This simply means adding a thin layer of polish to the tip of your nail. This covers the edge and means the polish wraps around the nail more, leaving less edge for the polish to try and lift! When capping the free edge be sure to only use a tiny tiny bit of polish.

Please also ensure that you're not shaking the bottle of polish prior to application as this could cause air bubbles to form. To mix your polish, roll it gently between your hands.

Please also ensure that the white or transparent blue sticker that covers the entirety of the lamp tray is removed. Once this sticker is removed, this helps the lights to reflect off the mirrored tray which assists with curing the gel.

If you're using any other products before the base coat, such as a builder gel. Try applying your manicure without the builder gel and seeing if that helps.

We'd recommend if it still isn't lasting after you've tried again after taking into consideration all of these points, then try a nail dehydrator on your nails as it could be that your nails have too much oil or moisture on them that isn't always visible. This should help ensure that the gel is adhered to the nail properly.

Please do try out these tips and remember gel polish can take some getting used to but once you've figured it out the results are worth it!

Highly recommend!

I've been having my nails done with a fantastic, local business for about a year. However, I unfortunately reached a point where I could no longer justify the cost. I did some research and found the Mylee home kits. I hesitated for a while because of some of the negative reviews, however, I am so so glad I decided to go for it anyway. The quality is fantastic and as someone who's nails grow super fast and always finds gel/biab lifts at the sides, I did both my fingers and toes almost 2 weeks ago and they are still brilliant. Not one has peeled or lifted!
I did buy the dehydration and primer set along with the main kit, and did put a lot of effort into the prep, but it is clearly worth it. Will save me a fortune in the long run!!

Terrible Customer Service + Delivery

It doesn't even matter if the mylee polish range is good when their chosen delivery service (Yodel)is terrible. Yodel have lost my order for the last week and it appears impossible to get a hold of any customer service from Mylee beyond AI.

I can't find my own order on the Mylee website to report it missing and they don't have any live chat available for assistance. All I get are AI apologies from their whatsapp which is completely and utterly useless.

I will no longer be shopping at Mylee because it is a waste of my time and money.

Worst nails ever

I was expecting the most nicest nails I was so excited to wear them , just to realise there a RIP OFF I wore them for 3 hours they fell off . They maid my hands look tacky and looked horrible . Primark nails last for a day unlike your nails and there only 2 pounds

If you are finding that your gel nails are peeling off, then this is likely due to an application error. It can take some getting used to doing gel nails yourself, and our products are used by both salon professionals and home users. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be on a beautiful journey to beautiful and long-lasting nails.

There are several reasons as to why your nails would be peeling:
- Improper prep before applying the gel polish, such as nail cleansing, buffing/filing, etc.
- You could have oily nails, in which we would recommend using a nail dehydrator
- Improper curing times, or using a lamp that hasn't been tested with Mylee products. Both the gel product and lamp should be the same brand.
- Overflooding the gel onto your nail, it's important to apply a thin layer, cure, and then build up and repeat the process as you go along. Gel being applied too close to the skin, causing it to then peel
- Not capping the free-edge of the nail
- Being in contact with water a few hours before or after your manicure

Mylee removed two of my reviews

There are lots of things I love about Mylee, they have great gel colours which last well, gel wraps are great, and lots of kit I’ve used from curing lamps to gel remover products. I would give them five stars or even 10 if I could, but when I left a negative review about their peel off base coat, they emailed me to acknowledge my review, asking if I’d used a nail dehydrator, posted and then removed the review (twice). It’s doesn’t seem fair to me.

Thanks for your guidance. I do apply as you described and you kindly discussed this application method with me recently and supplied me a free bottle, in case there was an issue with the batch. Just an FYI, my review on the 13th of January is not an updated review, it is actually the third time I have reviewed this peel off base coat on your website.

The peel-off base coat will remove your manicure if you are using too much product. Exceptional customer service

Mylee is the best nail gel
