Bunnies of joy!

Rude inconsiderate lady
Myself and my daughter was in the shop early in the day. The lady there at the time was extremely friendly and helpful. My daughter asked if she could see a pair of earrings and she actually told me how nice the lady was and how she didn't feel rushed when looking at them. She asked for the price and when told she informed the lady she would think about it as she was paying with her Birthday money. We went around for the day and on the way back to the car she wanted to go in and treat herself to the earrings. On entering the shop we were ordered to put hand sanitizer on at the door and no hello or any nice greeting. Now I have eczema and carry my own hand sanitizer in my pocket. I stupidly put the hand sanitizer on and after told her that I had just sanitized two minutes before entering the shop and my hands are raw from constantly sanitizing. She decided to lecture me and say her hands were raw too and she has to wear a mask all day. I have no problem wearing a mask. I felt extremely upset by how she thinks she can order people to use sanitizer. She didn't even take into consideration that people may have allergies and use their own sanitizer. We walked out with my daughter not getting her earrings. We only go to Galway once a year as a little before Christmas tradition. This is one of my daughters favourite shops as she always gets something each year. Unfortunately due to you feeling you can order people around and not even considering people with skin conditions may not be able to use your hand sanitizer is inconsiderate. I am now on the way home with bright red hands from reacting to your sanitizer. My daughter kept saying it was a shame you were so rude as the lady early in the day was so nice.

I am very disappointed that after years of coming to my shop, you and your daughter felt you had a bad experience. It is always lovely to hear that a visit to the shop has become part of someones holiday or Christmas tradition. I want to thank you for the support of the shop over the years.
I would like to respond to a number of the the assertions that you made in your review. I can assure you that you were greeted, you may not have heard, but you were greeted. You were also not ordered to put on hand sanitiser, you were requested to. The staff member then tried to converse with you regarding the ongoing difficulties with the pandemic, face mask wearing and hand sanitising and such. This was not an attempt to order or lecture you but she was trying to empathise with you.
We have no problem with customers using their own sanitiser and many do. But we do request that it is put on, on entry into the shop. We have a couple of signs at the door asking you to do so. This is standard procedure in most shops. I need not add that this is also adhering to government and HSE guidelines in helping reduce the spread of Covid. The difficulty in telling a staff member that you sanitised a few minutes ago is that, they have no idea if that is true or not. Also the benefits of sanitising are reduced once you touch other surfaces between then and entering our shop. We would be devastated if an outbreak of Covid stemmed from the shop and it is for this reason we make the request, when we can.
If you were unable to put any sanitiser on due to skin conditions, we would have understood and respectfully asked that you limit what you touch in the shop or we would have offered assistance in helping you inspect products. As you can imagine, it is a very difficult line we have to walk but in general most people understand that this is not something we wish to have to manage but something we do you keep us all as safe as possible.
I would also like to make you aware of the upset you caused the staff member in question. She was very distressed about how she was spoken to by you. She is a very valued member of the team who has had her heart in the shop for many years now.
We are all a little weary of the difficulties of Covid and my sympathies are with you in regard to the impact that the constant sanitising has on your hands. As much as I would like your needs be met, regarding your shopping experience, in this instance, the collective health of all our customers and staff takes precedence. Unfortunately, living with Covid continues to be our reality, and looks to be so for the foreseeable future.
I wish you all the very best to you are your daughter and I hope you that you have a lovely Christmas.

I ordered the Galway pub deck of cards online. Very happy with the price, quick delivery and durability of the product. When I opened the package and there was a hand written thank you note inside. Such a nice personal touch. Will definitely be recommending to a friend and most definitely buying from there again.
