So happy ☺️

Joanna C is brilliant with my shy 13 year old.
She has been helping him with his maths since April and we have already seen an improvement in his grades.

My son’s tutor really helped my son and he’s really happy with her. He’s at university and needed help with his maths minor.

Only issue we have is he’s 19 and I have to do everything like pay when he tried it wouldn’t let him. Also I get the messages rather than him. We did set it up when he was 18 as he needed help with his physics A level.

She has sent her work off confident that she will now pass the module. Cannot praise him and thank him enough.

Kishan has been an excellent Maths tutor for me. He was very flexible with his timings to match both our busy schedules. Kishan was very patient and spent time understanding my specific queries within each topic and helped me understand the specific topics with in depth examples. Kishan was a great help along the way to get me to the stage where I felt confident waking into my Maths A - Level exam!

Treats students terribly!

My son thought his tutor helped for his GCSEs and wanted to help other students, however because he did not have 2 IDs at hand he was shut down from ever applying as a tutor. Son is at Oxford university so this speaks volumes on what my tutor requires. Also has had an enhanced DBS check.
Go direct to the students as I will be recommending that rather than My Tutor.

Hi Tracey,

Thanks for taking the time to share your son’s experience with us.

While we’d love to help every applicant become a tutor, not all applicants are able to meet the requirements. As this role means working with children under the age of 18, these requirements are not all academic because we must stick to stringent government standards and safety requirements.

An essential step is completing an enhanced DBS check which shows us that a prospective tutor is safe to work with children. Two forms of ID are required for an enhanced DBS check to be completed by the Disclosure and Barring Service (a government body). We’re unable to change this or set the ID that is required. Any individual who cannot provide two forms of ID that meet the DBS’ requirements, cannot complete their application to become a tutor.

We appreciate that this does mean some applicants will be disappointed as they cannot access the required forms of ID but - first and foremost - we have to ensure that the children using our services are safe. There will be no changes to these requirements as safeguarding is our top priority.

Your son has clearly had great academic success and we wish him all the best with his future in academia and education.

Thanks again for your feedback,

Company stole my money

Terrible company with a ludicrous refund policy. I booked what I thought was a one off lesson with a tutor. The lesson went fine but my daughter decided to drop Maths and no longer required lessons. Two weeks later I was surprised to see a charge on my bank account for another lesson. I contacted them immediately to cancel the charge but they refused to do it saying it was within 24 hours and therefore not refundable. The lesson was not provided and it was within 22 hours but they stood firm and didn't refund me. If they had charged the lesson 48 hours in advance I could have easily cancelled but they obviously purposely charge accounts only when it's too late to refund. I am so so disappointed that they chose to steal my 49 pounds rather than refund me for a lesson that I didn't know was booked and didn't want. To top it off the lesson was in summer on Monday at 9 am, not like there would have been any demand for that lesson. I will now be forced to complain to my bank and possibly small claims.

Hi Louie,

Thank you for getting in touch and for sharing your experience - we completely understand your frustration.

As our tutors are self-employed, refunds for missed lessons outside of the cancellation window are at their discretion. However, after reviewing the messages between you and the tutor, we recognise there was a genuine misunderstanding. As a gesture of goodwill, we’ve issued a refund on this occasion.

We’re happy that a member of our team has already resolved this with you directly. Once again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration caused, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention as we’re always here to help in a fair way.

Your feedback is valuable as we continue to improve our processes and communication to better support our customers.

Many thanks,
MyTutor Team.

I was scammed by a tutor and then another tutor and increasing prices

It was back in November when we decided to go with this company my tutor we found a tutor from our knowledge. He broke all the rules and regulations of the requirements. After finding out he took us for just over 5 1/2 thousand pounds in tutoring from the knowledge after bringing it to my tutor they took it on board but didn't ban him. The knowledge of these tutors are young students with no experience all the experience they have as a school or university a good quality teacher is somebody that has worked in the field for many years after going back on to find out another tutor was doing the same thing. My knowledge from this they put their prices up. Try to be another load sugar. There's no such thing as making money when you are teaching children it is the experience of the child especially when they have difficulties autism. My children build a trust up to find that they got let down again today another breakdown and all I get is the same Popy excuse for my tutor. This is disgusting from the base of salary of £25 an hour they need to sign to put his prices up by double 49 when you're paying for three lessons times out by two children that is it seems amounts of money not even myself as a professional person gets that amount of money per hour and I think some of the good quality bank managers don't even get that per hour so why would a 21-year-old get that? This is not a good site? If it was me? I would stay clear. I'm looking for somebody in the US there seems to be a lot more better wiser tutor over there. This is my own view over the situation but if it was me stay clear think before you jump in thank you for your time today
stay a way from this !!!

Hi Marco,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

I’m sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with your previous tutor.

Tutor quality on our platform is really important to us, which is why every tutor applicant invited to join MyTutor is reviewed by our team to ensure they will be able to inspire their students.

We make it clear in our Parent FAQs that our tutors are bright university students/recent graduates from top UK universities, who go through extensive training and have to pass an enhanced DBS certificate in order to tutor on the platform.

I’m sorry to hear that your previous tutor didn’t meet these expectations, and understand your frustration.

I can see that you previously mentioned that you had lessons off the platform with this tutor. This is against our Safeguarding policy, and ultimately makes it difficult for us to take any action, as we don’t have any evidence of these lessons, unless you provide this to us.

In regards to the pricing, £25 is the minimum pricing we have on the site, as our pricing ranges from £25-£65. The price bands help balance accessibility for parents with fair compensation for tutors, ensuring that both parties benefit. Each price band has a specific parent price and tutor pay associated with it, and tutors can select the band that best matches their qualifications and the subjects they teach.

I can see that all of your lessons with your tutor were all on the lowest price-band of £25. As tutors are able to set their own price-bands, it is ultimately up to the tutor if they want to raise or lower their prices.

If you’d like us to assist in finding a new tutor who better matches your needs, or if you’d like to discuss anything further, please feel free to contact us via live chat, phone or email us at support@mytutor.co.uk

Thank you again for providing us with your feedback.

A good experience ruined at the end

A good experience with two lovely tutors completely ruined at the end by the so-called customer service team! I cancelled two tutoring plans through the portal but after 48 hours the customer service team had failed to confirm the cancellation. Despite further efforts on my part (via Chat function on website) to ensure that cancellation had been actioned, I was reassured that the cancellation would progress but then charged for two further lessons! They have a ridiculous system whereby you cancel via the website, then the customer service team need to process (eventually), then they send you an email saying 'are you sure' which you also need to respond to in order to complete a cancellation. Refund apparently on its way, hopefully within the next two weeks - ridiculous timeframe! Went from 10/10 customer to 1/10 within the space of two hours. Received a call from the Operations Lead, but she didn't care enough to change the outcome despite the fact that we spent hundreds of pounds with them. Very disappointed. Will be looking elsewhere for tutoring for our two younger kids.

Hi there Alex,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us.
We’re really glad to hear that your time working with our tutors went well, of course, we’re sorry the disappointment caused at the end of your customer journey.

All tutor plan cancellations, for parents with your account type, take place through your ‘Tutoring Plans’ page. Our team will then complete that cancellation within 24 working hours, Monday to Friday. It is the case that some parents don’t wish to cancel their entire plan and are looking for different support when they begin this process, which is why we ask for confirmation. Any lessons that are available are refunded once that cancellation is actioned.

We’ve taken a look at this case and can see that the cancellation request was put through on a Saturday and completed on the following Monday morning. At that point both of your refund requests were completed and sent back to your bank account with the normal processing time. We arranged for a conversation with with a manager to speak with you as we appreciated that you wanted reassurance that everything was dealt with.

Again, we’re sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience caused here.

Thanks for your time,
The MyTutor Team
