Charged for a damage that was there when I picked up the car
I picked up a car at Geneva airport, found a small damage, before I drove away. Told the staff and took a picture, also before I drove away. 5 days after I returned the car the wrote me an e-mail saying they would charge my card for this damage. It is impossible to reach them by phone (waited 2 hours) and they have not answered my e-mails.
Unfair pre-existing damage policy, paid £400 more than expected.
I expected to pay a £493.01 balance on arrival. I had a voucher telling me that THW, Tax, CDW, Premium location, TPL were all included. Nice ticks highlighting all the benefits of taking the quote. Only I hadn't read the small print. I ended up paying £1106.09 (£200 to be refunded on return of the vehicle). My choice was to either risk a £1000 fee per fault for pre-existing damage - yes pre-exisitng (I have checked with National Exeter since my return) or to pay for extortionate extra insurance. Extremely unfair. You are then charged an extra 20% for 'Premium Location Fee' and an extra 20% for 'VAT' so I ended up paying £400 for 14 days insurance, which is what it cost me to insure my own car for a year.
We had a great experience
We had a great experience - The car was ready for us to pick first thing in the morning and Grace help me with the keys and the paperwork. Return the car was quick and simple once we worked out the London one way system.
Terrible service
Terrible service - picked up car at heathrow which then broke down on motorway same day - left me on the shoulder for 3 hours - I ended up getting an Uber.
My first time purchasing a car
My first time purchasing a car, Paul was very informative with the sales and finance side of things would recommend
It’s pity that’s a one star
It’s pity that’s a one star, cause I have rented cars from them all over the world and have given 5 stars, as they your only as good as your last job, well Heathrow was just that, booked an SVU, only got a corsa (1 litre tiny thing), as a corporate user as well as personal user, they where patronising to the point all I wanted to do was walk away and go elsewhere. No mention on my app about deposit for corporate hire, but they insisted no deposit-no car hire. Never in the other places in the world have I been no belittled. I won’t be hiring from Heathrow again.
Quick and easy service
Don't Waste Your Time or Money
When we arrived at the rental counter in the airport, it was empty and the agents who helped us were friendly, but slow as it seemed one of them was being trained. After all the rigamarole of signing contracts and paying, instead of being given the key to our car as we have experienced with every other rental company we've ever rented from in Reno, we were sent out to the booth in the garage to get the key from a different person. When we reached the garage, there was a long line of people who were also waiting at the booth. 30-45 minutes after we checked in for our reservation we finally reached the agent in the booth only to be told that they didn't have any convertibles on the premises and that we would have to wait for someone to bring one from another location. It seems to me that this should've already been taken care of, since we had already checked in 30-45 minutes prior. When the vehicle finally arrived it had dings all over it and the trunk liner was coming out. It took about an hour total to finally get our car, and it wasn't even very nice considering that we paid almost $600 for a week. When we asked the agent in the garage why we had to go through all this, she said it was because they were short staffed, which seems to be a recurring theme in the service industry lately. Perhaps employees would actually want to work if they were paid more. They put up with a lot of very rude people and deserve more than whatever paltry amount they're being paid. I don't need to know exact numbers to know it's not enough based on what I observed. As much as National rips off their customers for a car, they can afford to pay their employees a living wage. Customers shouldn't have to pay through the nose for crappy cars and crappy service. The extra step of getting the keys from a second person is inefficient, which is why no other rental company does it. I should be able to check in at the counter, sign my contract, get my keys, and be one my way, just like every other rental car company we've ever rented from anywhere. Needless to say, we will never rent from National again.
Marks hire car.
Car booked from John lennon International Airport liverpool UK, great service booked merc e class ended up with merc s class at no extra cost. Good prompt pickup car ready to go good handover, handed back again with no dramas deposit back into account within a couple of days. Excellent service throughout.
crooks ! ! !
They are crooks ! DON `T BOOK HERE ! They keep charging your credit card weeks after for made up road toll and traffic violence, after you finished your contract with them.
High deposit and no warning!
They never mentioned that there is a deposit and when we arrived at the cashier she kindly stated that there is a deposit but nowhere on the website or checkout did they mention anything like that which they have to change so people know what to expect. It’s common courtesy. And it is not cheap either… $300 deposit!! Normally, the credit card is required for the deposit which is reasonable but they required the whole payment on a credit card so I had to make a long distance call all the way to Costa Rica so my dad could raise the limit on the credit card that we use for emergencies… last time I use this rental place. Complete crap.
Why can’t I give 0 stars?!?
Why can’t I give 0 stars?!?! This place is an absolute joke. For starters. You’re not renting a car from “National” they send you an Enterprise counter where you will waste hours of your time waiting in line only to be helped by incompetent, inconsistent people. I was given nothing but the run around. So much so that a corporate manager had to call and get things straightened out for me. WRONG!!!!even then it didn’t help because this joke of a trash “company” has absolutely no idea what they’re doing and does not honor their word or know how to practice customer service. I was told by several people that my 11AM! Reservation was being held and switched into my friends name for an 11pm reservation. Mind you I booked this almost 2 months ago and spoke with several people that MY previous car was being HELD… and got a call 1 HOUR BEFORE pick up they have 1 key left. Which again…inconsistent! The pervious lady I spoke to minutes before said there was 3 keys. And guess what. Whatever next 3 people come to get their car will get a car. But me who was told 12 hours ago that I would have a car was no longer a priority?!?!??? Not only have I had to cancel and change 3 appointments because I’m in a new city with NO CAR but I also accrued Uber charges. Even after explaining several times I have appointments tomorrow I was still not told when I would get a car. All I get it “before noon” not “you will be the first on my list” or “let me see how soon we will be able to get to you” just…”before noon” this place is a complete joke. I will be posting on every platform I can as well as filing a complaint with the BBB because they have cost me additional money, and have hugely inconvenience and have now physically caused issues within my personal life. And all I get is an “I’m sorry…I get it. I’ve been having to make these calls all day” oh really?!? Good to know you’ve been screwing over other people as well. They fact she admitted that they have done this with other guest just confirms this place is TRASH!!!!!!! But why would they care right?! They’re not the ones being screwed over every which way :) oh….and after reading other reviews and doing my research this seems to be a common practice. Making empty promises, giving away cars that are held for reservations. Both reviews and reviews from former employees of this branch on Indeed state this.
DUBAI Terminal 3
DUBAI Terminal 3
Most horrible experience ! DON`T BOOK HERE ! ! !
They even charge your credit card 6-8 weeks later claiming further road tolls,...which you cannot verify. I had to replace my Credit card to stop these continuously charges. Then they claimed traffic violoence...then further road toll.....these guys are crooks.
The car was fine
The car was fine. It had a cracked windshield but that was documented on the paperwork. A week after returning it I got notice of a damage claim. I called, explained, and they closed the claim. But reading all these reviews, I think they try to get away with a damage claim on every rental, which makes them shady in my opinion.
Never again.
Never again.
Everything was fine until they had to block the deposit on the visa. The machine didn't accept the card however it was visa and we've also paid something in hong Kong with that same card. She said we had to have permission from our bank to use the card, but that visa is accepted worldwide and haven't had any problems before at any car rental company. I also tried with maestro and that didn't work either, even though the bank activated that card to work worldwide so there was clearly something wrong with their payment system. The lady at the counter said she couldn't help us and couldn't give us the car. After some discussion we decided to call a cab for 60 dollars and go to our first host. She couldn't believe our story either. We went to the supermarket to test the card and of course it worked. Our host gave us a ride back to the airport and in the meanwhile someone else was at the counter. He was checking our documents, saw us coming and told us he was sorry for the trouble before, and he believed our card worked and that the paiment system was the cause.
When returning the car the man at the counter asked our feedback on the service and I told him it was "not good". A lady jumped in and asked about our experience so I told her the story. She wasn't really understanding and told us they indeed can't give a car when the visa is not working. However she also said they have often problems with the paiment system. She told us we had to have permission from our bank for the visa card so National would be sure they would get their money. But we already paid Rentalcars so I don't think we are responsible for what happens between national and rentalcars. We already paid for the car so why would we have to prove we've had enough money... She said that if we had booked directly via National we wouldn't have had this issue. However I don't see how this has anything to do with that since the key problem was that the paiment system didn't work properly.
I asked to at least give our money back from the cab, but they wouldn't. Not understanding at all, not flexible and not admitting their mistakes.
Abusive Manager
I had a horrific, abusive experience at National Car Rental in Victoria, BC with manager Rummy Sihota. I booked a car rental on Expedia and, upon arrival, he stated matter of factly they did not have any vehicle for me and offered no apology. I expressed upset that they allowed me to reserve a car when there was not one available. He said I could take a larger car (a mini SUV) that had a crack in the windshield. Being without options to get to my doctor's appointment in Duncan, I said okay, and asked if I could please have a courtesy discount for the extra cost of gas, for the larger car that I did not want (I prefer to drive a smaller car), and because they had given a reservation and not kept their agreement. He said no, and that $30 a day is not much money for a car rental. I was very frustrated and told him that I would be leaving a negative review because of my experience. He got upset and said that I was threatening him. I said that I was not threatening him, but rather I was letting him know that this is extremely poor customer service and is unacceptable. He told the employee to cancel my reservation, told me that he would no longer rent a car to me, and then ordered the employee to, "Go back outside and keep cleaning!" I said that I would now be making a formal complaint. He stated it didn't matter because he's the manager. I said I would go to the district level and he made a comment that it wouldn't matter and then told me to get out of the store. I demanded his business card. He gave it to me and ordered me to leave and said, "Maybe if you were nicer, I would have given you a discount," and then said something else. I turned around and asked him what he said and he said, "Nevermind," and then yelled at me to, "Get off of this property!" multiple times. I have never been so traumatized or treated so horrifically at a business in all of my life. Not only should he have, at the very least, sincerely apologized for not having a car for me, if he would not give me a discount as a good will gesture, he should have kept himself in control. I made a complaint at National's corporate office, and will follow up until I know this has been investigated and handled. I also urge the company to review this location and manager's complaint record and employee turnover, because the abusive way he treated me and his employee was terrible and absolutely unacceptable. I ended up going next door to Budget and was treated well and got a vehicle for a lower price without being subjected to abuse. Note: It's been 26 days since I called and made my complaint to National Car Rental, and management has not contacted me, which shows their lack of concern for customer abuse and is unacceptable. Go elsewhere.
THIEVES
I rented a car from them in Dubai and they actually stole the money from my credit card, claiming that they took it to pay the fine which I received, but they refused to prove the fines documents.
BE CAREFUL, DON'T RENT CAR from them, and don't pay any deposit to them!!
FRAUD!
FRAUD!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!! I am in the process if disputing a claim for over 2k in damage to a car I rented from National in early October 2020. I am an Emerald Member and with that I have contactless pickup. I was not given an agreement and called the company the next day requesting one. It was never sent. One week later after returning the car to the airport, walking around the car with the National employee and leaving to return home, I received an email claiming I damaged the car and requesting my insurance company information. 4 weeks later, I received pictures of the car with roof damage that looks like someone used the roof for moving purposes or very very heavy luggage. I was traveling by myself with a small bag that went in the trunk. The car looked exactly as it did when I picked it up. It's very easy to claim damage to a roof as I am sure most customers do not inspect the roof. This damage was done by either an employee, or the customer after me. There are no time stamps on their images. COMPLETE FRAUD. They know their customers are going to submit a claim to their insurance company. Be very careful!! TAKE PICTURES!! Do not trust them!!
This was the worst car service ever
This was the worst car service ever. The 2020 Discovery broke down on us 3 times. Then they did not have another vehicle to replace it. I came in to Atlanta from out of town and reserved a premium Elite Suv. First day wheel axle was messed up which caused it to get a flat tire. Day 2 returned it to the airport they gave me another vehicle, later that evening that car did not start, triple A came and sad the battery was dead and the transmission was slipping. Did not drive it at all that day had to get a ride to an event. Day 3 drove it to another event on the way to the event the transmission went as I was getting off the highway. Pulled over in the parking lot, the car could not even go in park. Called Triple A again they came towed it. Called National customer service and they had no other vehicles to give us.. SO I was stuck at this event with no way back to the hotel or no rental car for the remaining of my trip.. I still have yet talked to a manager on the phone or get my deposit back.
Where do I even begin
Where do I even begin? As previous reviews this week before me have stated, I too wish I could give my entire Enterprise experience, including my encounter with branch manger Christian D. Scalise and extremely rude staff (Chloe, Alice, etc), a ZERO star.
From the very beginning of this trip it started out with chaos. They have absolutely taken advantage of me as a visitor and are trying to blame me for damage that I did not cause. This comes after failing to assist me as their customer in an emergency earlier in the week despite it being their legal responsibility. They tried to charge me over £300 to come help me and then when I called them out, they quickly started changing their story and tone. I reached out to the manager Christian Scalise numerous times during this issue for assistance and to inform him of how unprofessional his team was acting and got no response until I emailed him fuming and got an email back way later. I since have again tried to reach him again this morning by both phone and email after I was accused of a piece of a tire treading falling off, stating they need to now charge me for ANOTHER tire?! This is an absolute joke and high way robbery.
I will be writing to their corporate headquarters in addition to my credit card company to document this extortion.
