DNA test for my Son in Thailand With me in the UK
🌟 Amazing Service all round 🌟
I had to do a DNA test to prove my Son was mine in Thailand to get him a UK passport.
The service was smooth and fast. I had someone come to take my swabs within days of getting the process in motion. In the meantime a kit was sent to my Son in Thailand.
Everything came back as expected and so was substantial evidence to getting him a passport.
Although it wasn’t so easy to get him passport due to HMPO losing docs etc from lab 3 times ! Northgene even sent to myself and HMPO special delivery each time at no added expense to myself over the course of a year !
Whoever reads this from Northgene please pass on my sincerest thanks to Charlotte from customer service who dealt with my case from start to finish.
He finally got his passport approved on 1st Sep so big thanks to the lab and team.

Although...Smooth!

We appreciate that it can be difficult to process your results when it is not what you are expecting. For a Peace of Mind test, sample collections are not witnessed by an independent third party, therefore the results we issue are correct and accurate so long as the samples have been taken from the correct person.

Excellent Service and Communication
The DNA test was inconclusive two times. Northgene then asked if a bone marrow transplant had taken place - something we had completely forgotten about as it had been so many years. After disclosing this, they asked for hair sample instead. From this they provided a definitive DNA result. Communication was excellent throughout and cannot fault the service either. Thanks to Northgene for putting our mind at rest.

Absolute waste of time and money
The testing with Northgene is extremely pointless. My wife and her sister did a test to determine full or half siblings. They state they can do this test, but the results came back inconclusive, fair it happens, BUT when ask how to make this conclusive they state you need a parent, so the fact is despite what they advertise they actually cannot provide an answer without a parent involved, which if there was one available would negate the need for this test anyway. After waiting 24 hours for a response to customer service asking how we could make the results conclusive they said they could test more markers for an extra £35 but this would only be provide a low 70's% chance of a conclusive result. Their website states the general testing should be a 73% chance of a conclusive result, so how could the extended be the same percentage? That's not logical.
That is £150 and a week of waiting wasted.
Go and do an ancestry test, more is tested and more is provided meaning the service is better, its cheaper and realistically even if you can't/don't get an answer at least you get a jazzy map of your genetic locations.

Thank you for your review. As is the nature of all sibling DNA testing, a conclusive result is not always 100% guaranteed. To ensure the accuracy of our results, NorthGene™, and all other accredited laboratories, must abide by their UKAS 17025 accredited thresholds,
I personally have been in constant contact with the participants in this case to try and pursue other avenues that would increase the chances of a conclusive result.
